Chapter 539: Chapter 537:Finally, I’m happy.

I appeared within the region of space I’d left Leo and the others in, my eyes taking in the situation before me.

Leo, as instructed, had done his job beautifully. The entire line-up of Calderans was currently on their knees, their hands cupped, their eyes bleeding. The chicken-cat hovered high above like some ominous creature of torture, his body radiating that awe-inspiring golden aura of his, yet his dead eyes were locked unflinchingly onto the thousands of Calderans gathered below him.

I could feel their life essence being drained and absorbed by the chicken-cat, turning into pure despair and sorrow, Leo’s aura deepening with every siphoned feeling.

"Looks like he’s having fun." I shook my head, unwilling to interrupt him.

"Master..." Shulvan’s voice came from behind me, snapping me from my thoughts.

"What is it?" I asked.

"The audacious fool. His records can no longer be felt."

"And yet... you somehow still remember there was such a person."

"I apologize, Master." Shulvan, dramatic as ever, dropped to his knees despite having done nothing wrong.

"Tehehehe... don’t be too hard on your first apostle. So long as you yourself remember what happens, he’s bound to do the same; it’s inevitable." Shaia laughed.

"Haa... I know. And you girls?"

"Unfortunately, Master, we still do as well," Elira answered, almost unhappily.

"It can’t be helped. We’re connected to the bastard on a soul level. There’s literally little to nothing he can hide or keep from us." Sana iterated.

"Haa..." I could only shake my head as I heard their words, intending to finally go check on my Aunt V and see the aftermath of my actions, when I froze in place.

"Wait, Shaia... don’t tell me, if I ever link the girls to my soul like the rest of you, will Aunt V remember all that had happened?"

"This... I... I hadn’t thought about it like this. Shit." Shaia cussed.

"Damn it. Are you telling me that Sister Raven might still end up remembering that bastard? No, Master, we can’t let that happen. We simply can’t," Elira added.

"She’s right, bastard. Can’t you just make it so you yourself can’t remember that animal?" Sana asked.

"I... don’t know. I’ve never tried to use my abilities in such a manner before, so I can’t really say. Shaia, what do you think?"

"It should be possible, but I wouldn’t recommend it," Shaia answered.

"Why not?"

"Because you’re the cause of everything—the effective removal of an existence from the records of existence. If you yourself forget the events you send to oblivion, then they would truly have never happened, and that might have consequences we don’t yet understand. After all, you need to be aware of what happened to even understand what changed."

"This..." She was right. If I went about sending things to oblivion and then making my memories of those events go to oblivion as well, it loses any meaning. After all, I would have no idea what had happened or what had changed.

Now even more so. If I should cast away these memories I have of Aunt V’s experiences, of that animal, of his punishment, then I wouldn’t be aware of what changed in Aunt V and Melissa. The consequences of my actions, good or bad, would be void. And should I have messed things up in a horrible manner, I wouldn’t even be aware—and that... is something I just can’t allow.

"How about this?" Shaia began speaking once again. "You just seal that specific memory from anyone ever seeing it in your head."

"But..."

"Tehehehehe... I know. You don’t want to hide anything from your loved ones. But this time it’s necessary. You’re trying to secure Raven’s mental health, and that should include making sure no one is aware of her past vulnerabilities, not even us."

"She’s right, Master. Inevitably, we might end up treating Sister Raven differently—like a victim or someone weak—since we know what happened to her, and that’s something I believe she wouldn’t want. So it’s better if only you ever know what happened." Elira agreed.

"I think that’s for the best as well. At least this way, she’ll never find out and it will truly be like it never happened. Though I’m now sad I won’t be able to tell what had changed with her—I’m curious what reality decided to do about Melissa’s birth now that every record of her father’s existence has been wiped away." Sana’s curiosity was one I shared as well.

I hadn’t freaked out since I could still clearly feel Mel’s connection to myself, which meant she hadn’t been erased alongside the animal. But now, it begged the question of how she came to be. Since the act of Aunt V getting... well, since that event never happened, Aunt V never conceived by that animal, and that would mean Mel came to be in a different manner.

Whether that involved my Aunt V getting involved with another man of her own free will or not, I didn’t know.

Whether reality decided to screw me over by conjuring some new man of her dreams that she had married and stayed with as a family, thereby canceling any form of relationship we had—I had no idea. But just the thought alone was terrifying.

"If something like that truly happened, then I’ll just send that one to oblivion too. I’ll just keep doing that until reality decides to behave itself and act right."

"I’m amazed by how your mind works at times because, wow..." I ignored Shaia’s sarcastic remarks as I got ready to do as they had requested.

"You girls ready?"

....

"""Do it."""

Creak...

The door creaked open softly as I stepped into the room, my eyes finding the beautiful figure of Aunt V still sleeping peacefully.

"Okay... here’s the moment of truth." I took a deep breath and then, "Wake up."

I returned her consciousness, her body stirring gently as she groggily opened her eyes.

"Mmmm.... Dan... Dante?" she called out softly, her eyes searching.

"I’m here, Aunt V."

"Mmm... what are you doing over there? When did you get out of bed?"

I smiled, moving toward her as my hands wrapped around her waist, placing a tender, tentative kiss on her lips.

She responded softly, her hands going to the back of my head as our kiss deepened, our breaths turning heavy.

"Haa... Haa... this... did you miss me that much?" She smiled, licking up the string of saliva that had connected our lips.

"I miss you every moment of my life, Aunt V."

"Fufufufu... then I guess the feeling is the same."

The nerves within me dissipated completely at her words as I was finally assured that the universe hadn’t dared play with me, but—

"Tell me, Aunt V," there was still one more thing to clarify, "how did you say you gave birth to Mel again?"

"Hmm? Why are you asking all of a sudden?"

"Nothing, I just needed a refresher."

"Fufufu... you want me to tell you how I had gotten myself pregnant by playing with magic I shouldn’t have? You want to laugh at your aunt that badly?"

"Ehh?" I short-circuited for a few moments as I couldn’t believe my ears. "You what?"

"Hmmm... I said I’d tried messing with some arcane spell I’d gotten from some ruined temple that claimed to be capable of birthing life. Little did I know that its true purpose was self-conception! Could you imagine it? Till date, I still can’t believe that’s how I gave birth. I always thought my first child would be yours, but fate works in mysterious ways, and now I’ve got my dearest Melissa and my sweet Dante. I’m finally happy."

She hugged me, placing her head on my chest as a peaceful smile graced her beautiful face.

"Yes... finally, I’m happy."
