"Jane, would you like to give Thomas a call and see who Emily is waiting for at the doorway for such a long time?" Aunt asked Jane Sampson, "It’s still early now, and for a girl to be standing there, she might get cold."

"Aunt, Emily has her own car. If she leaves so early, there’s no way she took a cab. If she felt too cold, wouldn’t she know to wait in the car instead?
