Chapter 894 - 892: Black Lizard Poison Beast, Five-Colored Lizard Insect
Chapter 894: Chapter 892: Black Lizard Poison Beast, Five-Colored Lizard Insect
Xu Yang’s expression remained unchanged. Fully prepared, he let out a sudden, cold snort the exact moment the black demonic insect reached the space between his eyebrows.
"Hmph!"
POP!
The demonic insect was blown to pieces as if struck by lightning, turning into wisps of black smoke that dissipated into thin air.
At the same time, the map and the black lines displayed on the ancient scroll gradually faded, returning to their original state.
"Incredible," Luo Yao couldn’t help but marvel.
The phantom of that demonic insect had made him feel suffocated and despairing, completely powerless to resist. Yet in front of Xu Yang, it was as helpless as he had been facing the insect. His junior brother’s strength was simply absurd.
However, seeing his junior brother’s growing prowess only made Luo Yao more excited. They were going to reap a massive harvest on this trip.
"Senior Brother, let’s go," Xu Yang said, licking his lips. He looked up in the direction previously indicated by the black line, his eyes burning with fervor.
The Poison Demon Jia Xiu was simply a gift from the heavens. It was safe to say that even if Jia Xiu had left behind all sorts of traps and tricks, they would pose little threat to him. He figured that once they entered the Starfall Immortal Ruins, anyone who dared to cause trouble would be in for a rude awakening.
Two hours later.
The two arrived at the northern edge of the toxic swamp, right near the target area indicated by the black line.
There were few pools of water in this area, and the ground was relatively solid. However, the poisonous mist permeating the air was even more overwhelming and terrifying. Without Xu Yang’s protection, Luo Yao would have found it difficult to hold on. Just inhaling a couple of breaths would be enough to cause a typical Golden Immortal cultivator to lose a portion of their combat strength. Furthermore, a massive variety of unknown poisons were mixed in here, rendering regular Antidote Pills useless.
"It should be right here." Xu Yang stomped on the solid rock beneath his feet.
He and Luo Yao were currently standing on a stretch of limestone ground that spanned hundreds of feet. It had a mottled grayish-white hue, as if it had endured the wind and rain of countless ages. Aside from the towering ancient trees and poisonous weeds surrounding them, there was nothing else. Looking off into the distance, a vast expanse of mountains stretched out ahead.
"Is it down below?" Luo Yao asked, somewhat doubtful.
"Ten to one, it is. The poison concealed down there is even denser than it is out here," Xu Yang noted, having sensed it by relying on his extraordinary perception.
Immediately after, he waved his hand slightly, signaling his senior brother to step back. Then, he swept his blade down in a slashing strike.
SLASH!
The solid ground split open, forming a massive fissure. The blade aura continued to spread, tearing a deep rift into the earth below.
"Hmm? Something’s not right." Xu Yang raised an eyebrow, then swung his blade down once more.
Luo Yao’s eyes revealed his shock. With his junior brother’s strength, he couldn’t break through it with a single strike?
As the second strike landed, Xu Yang clearly felt a faint ripple emerge from below.
"It’s actually hollow.
"But with it being so deep and harboring poison capable of eroding even a Primordial Spirit, it’s no wonder no one has discovered it," Xu Yang noted, secretly amazed. Although this place seemed obvious, it was difficult for ordinary people to even set foot here. Due to various factors, the chances of it being found were exceptionally slim.
"Let’s go down and take a look."
With a sweep of his sleeve, Xu Yang caught up Luo Yao and dove into the blade fissure, which was more than wide enough for a person, as fast as lightning.
Dozens of breaths later.
They reached the bottom. Beneath the solid rocks lay a distinct crack—caused precisely by Xu Yang’s blade—from which faint traces of poisonous gas drifted out.
Xu Yang flickered his body, whipping up a fierce wind that dispersed the poisonous gas, and plunged inside. It was completely dark below. He raised his hand, releasing clusters of immortal light that hung suspended in midair, illuminating the entire bottom.
It was, astoundingly, a massive underground cavern.
The cavern was rugged and densely littered with loose rocks, interspersed with a vast number of nameless weeds and short shrubs. A single glance was enough to tell that none of these were ordinary plants. They came in shades of black, ink-dark, purplish-red, and even vibrant, multi-colored hues. They exuded varying densities of mist, making one’s skin crawl.
"Red Infant Fruit!" Luo Yao suddenly drew a sharp breath.
Xu Yang glanced sideways and saw a short yet fleshy little tree standing prominently next to a pile of rubble. Its trunk resembled a plump body, and growing on it were fist-sized, bright red fruits that looked like the heads of human infants. The fruits were covered in creeping lines and slightly pitted indentations that eerily resembled facial features. It sent a chill down the spine.
"This is a toxic fruit recorded in the Scripture of Ten Thousand Poisons," Luo Yao explained, feeling a mix of trepidation and excitement. "If its features have become as distinct as an infant’s, it can threaten cultivators at the Middle and Late Stage of Golden Immortal. It’s also the main ingredient for refining Infant Poison Elixirs."
"These are all likely terrifying toxic entities; there’s no telling how long they’ve been accumulating here. This truly is a treasure trove," Xu Yang remarked, a gleam flashing in his eyes.
He cast a rough glance around. There were at least a hundred different types of toxic substances here. A portion of them emanated auras that made even him feel a faint sense of dread—which spoke volumes about their potency. With the Scripture of Ten Thousand Poisons in hand, refining them into powders or elixirs would yield weapons of mass destruction.
HISS! HISS!
"There’s movement.
"There might be poison beasts here too."
Xu Yang swept a sharp gaze deep into the cavern. He then flicked his sleeve, summoning the Black and White Meteor Tower, which radiated a brilliant light that enveloped Luo Yao. "Senior Brother, stay behind me. This tower is a supreme defensive treasure. There shouldn’t be any poison here capable of breaking its defenses."
A supreme defensive treasure? Luo Yao shot a wondrous look at the Black and White Meteor Tower before quickly retracting his gaze, staring intently into the depths of the cavern.
Xu Yang walked forward slowly. As they rounded a corner, a massive pool of water came into view. Its surface seemed to be draped in a veil of five-colored spiritual light as thin as gossamer, making it look vibrant and colorful. However, the sheer depth of those vibrant colors gave off a deeply ominous feeling.
At the edge of the pool, several slender, lizard-like black poison beasts were drinking the liquid.
"Lizards?" Xu Yang raised an eyebrow.
At the same time, the pack of lizards also noticed Xu Yang. They raised their heads, their narrow, triangular eyes glowing with a bright red, ferocious, and bloodthirsty light.
HISS! HISS! HISS!
The lizards flicked their tongues, looking hideous and terrifying. The most nauseating part was their backs, which were covered in egg-sized lumps that were squirming, as though insects were writhing inside them.
"They are all at the Golden Immortal level.
"The strongest among them is only at the Middle Stage of Golden Immortal, but they must be covered in poison. A pack of over twenty like this is enough to spell doom for an ordinary cultivator at the Late Stage of Golden Immortal.
"Senior Brother, is there any record of them in the Scripture of Ten Thousand Poisons?"
Hmm?
Hearing that Luo Yao’s voice sounded somewhat off, Xu Yang couldn’t help but look back.
Luo Yao swallowed hard, his expression a mix of excitement and fear.
"This beast is called a Black Lizard Poison Beast," he said with a trembling voice. "They live in packs, and their entire bodies are highly corrosive poison. Not even a Divine Weapon can withstand their internal venom.
"Inside the lumps on their backs, they incubate a type of parasite known as the Five-Colored Lizard Insect. They are incredibly beautiful, yet far more terrifying than the Black Lizard Poison Beasts themselves. They also move in swarms and are extremely fast. They can affect a cultivator’s perception; once influenced, the victim falls into an illusion, completely at their mercy. If parasitized, they devour all of the victim’s life essence, eventually planting their eggs inside the cultivator’s Primordial Spirit, where they eventually hatch and burst out."
Just talking about it made Luo Yao’s own skin crawl, the hairs on his body standing on end. If not for the Scripture of Ten Thousand Poisons, he wouldn’t even have known such creatures existed.
"And this pool..." Luo Yao continued. "It must have been left behind by the Poison Demon Jia Xiu. In his poison scripture, he calls it the Thousand Poison Holy Water. It’s accumulated by fusing over a thousand types of toxic substances, poisonous gases, and poison beast blood essences, mixed with the blood essence of cultivators.
"When refining poison elixirs, adding just a few drops is enough to massively increase the elixir’s potency.
"Damn it, and we haven’t even reached the end! If Jia Xiu’s lair is really here, I can’t even begin to imagine what other horrors lie deeper inside."
Luo Yao’s voice was trembling. It was just too terrifying. Although he had a penchant for the way of poison, he was deeply shaken by everything before him. Without sufficient strength, merely stepping foot in this place was enough to claim one’s life.
