Chapter 124: Ye Renrong

She continued fighting, not even having the energy to argue with her anymore. Then one of her husbands spoke.

The man had blonde hair and an ethereally handsome face. His name was Eric.

"Melanie, you’re truly too spoilt. I really don’t understand how I ever fell in love with you."

Melanie froze. She turned toward him in disbelief.

Then she noticed Ye Renrong smiling. The next second, something struck her from behind.

Melanie was violently pushed forward. Her body flew straight toward the surrounding zombies.

Her eyes widened. ’That bitch! I would kill her after becoming a zombie.’

The angle was such that she was destined to be bitten by the zombie, or, worst case, she might become a meat pie for them.

She closed her eyes, accepting her fate, but suddenly, an ice wall appeared in front of her, and she crashed into the wall.

Melanie’s face almost turned red from the impact.

She rubbed it, but she wasn’t badly injured. In fact, she was grateful to whoever had created the ice wall.

At least someone had tried to save her.

None of her husbands had superpowers. In fact, they didn’t possess any abilities at all.

She was the only one among them with an ability. ’Then who saved me?’

As she thought this, she stood up and looked toward the source of the ice wall. Her eyes met a beautiful pair of deep purple eyes.

Her expression instantly changed. "Ni Mengxue."

Ni Mengxue was slightly surprised that the blonde woman recognised her despite the distance between them and the swarm of zombies surrounding Melanie’s group.

Ni Mengxue could read lips.

She was certain the woman had called her name. ’How does she know me?’

Before she could figure it out, a system prompt suddenly appeared.

[Danger! The host’s original ex-best friend has been detected. To unlock her route, please prevent her death. Time limit: 20 minutes.]

Ni Mengxue froze. ’Seriously?’

She almost cursed.

’This system only knows how to assign me missions involving people who are about to die.’

It was as if the God of Death had a list of everyone close to her and kept sending those people toward her.

The timer had already begun counting down. Ni Mengxue had no choice.

She turned toward the RV and waved her hand.

The next moment, Xin Ai, Valer, and He Yong of the group jumped out.

Lu Yucai, however, remained inside.

Ni Mengxue had specifically asked him to stay behind.

Even though he had seen them heading into battle, Lu Yucai didn’t argue and immediately agreed.

However, deep down, he couldn’t help thinking, ’Perhaps she really does think I’m incompetent.’

His mood instantly sank again.

Meanwhile, Ni Mengxue led the others toward the battlefield and began dealing with the zombies.

Ye Renrong clenched her fists tightly before quickly composing herself.

She looked toward the newcomers and froze.

The woman leading them had long purple hair, fair skin, and a pair of deep purple eyes. Her features were breathtaking, and her slender figure had an elegant hourglass shape.

Ye Renrong had seen plenty of beautiful women.

Melanie was one of them.

But this woman was undoubtedly the most beautiful person she had ever seen.

Even her slender figure was strangely captivating. A trace of envy rose in Ye Renrong’s heart.

She took a deep breath and suppressed it before turning toward Melanie’s husbands. ’Did they notice what I did?’

She looked at Trey. Their eyes met, but Trey immediately looked away.

Ye Renrong froze but didn’t say anything.

Instead, she quickly walked toward Melanie with a concerned expression.

"Melanie, are you okay?"

She reached out as if to touch her. Melanie immediately dodged her hand. "Don’t you fucking dare try that again."

Her expression was cold. "Once I get out of here, I’ll kill you with my own hands."

With that, Melanie turned toward the remaining zombies and summoned a fireball.

The blazing attack struck one zombie after another.

With Melanie and her husbands working together with Ni Mengxue’s group, the zombie tide was finally cleared.

Once the battle ended, all eight of Melanie’s husbands collapsed onto the ground, their bodies trembling from exhaustion.

Melanie, however, immediately looked toward Ni Mengxue.

At that moment, another system prompt appeared in front of Ni Mengxue.

[Congratulations! You have unlocked Melanie’s route. Complete the following missions to obtain 100,000 Merit Points.]

Ni Mengxue stared at the reward. ’One hundred thousand Merit Points?’

She was stunned.

’Is Melanie some kind of golden goose?’

Why had she received such a ridiculous reward for protecting Melanie when saving her own husband had only earned her peanuts in comparison?

’Forget it.’

Ni Mengxue decided to focus on the zombie crystals.

She immediately began collecting them without paying any attention to Melanie.

Melanie’s lips twitched.

She was just about to say something when Ye Renrong suddenly gasped.

"This newcomer! How can you take the zombie crystals? We were the ones fighting here! You’re just taking our hard-earned rewards. Aren’t you ashamed?"

Trey immediately frowned. "Ye Renrong, don’t make a scene."

Ye Renrong froze and looked at him. Trey met her gaze for a moment before looking away.

Ford also frowned.

"Why are you shouting at Rongrong? What wrong did she even speak? She is right! Those newcomers appeared out of nowhere. Yes, they killed quite a few zombies, but we were here first. We were the ones who fought them from the beginning. And we would have won anyway!"

He looked toward Ni Mengxue and opened his mouth.

But before he could speak, he saw Ni Mengxue take out a loudspeaker.

Ford froze, and his voice trembled slightly. "What are you doing?"

Ni Mengxue smiled.

"What am I doing? I seem to remember hearing that you would have been able to deal with the zombies even without my help."

She raised the loudspeaker.

"So I’ll call the zombies back here. You can deal with them yourselves, and I’ll gladly let you keep the zombie crystals."

She paused. "As for these crystals, I’ll forget about them too."
