The carefully prepared defences began showing their worth.

One zombie stepped onto a concealed trap and immediately fell into the deep pit beneath it.

Another stumbled into the electric grid. The wires crackled, and the zombie’s body convulsed before collapsing.

A stronger zombie tried to charge through the opening.

The laser gun fired, and a concentrated beam pierced through its head, sending it crashing to the ground.

All around the battlefield, the base members fought desperately.

One zombie fell into a trap. Another was electrocuted while another was shot down by the laser gun.

Yet even with all those defences, the battlefield remained chaotic.

"Dai Xi, come back!"

Kong Ming shouted. But Dai Xi couldn’t hear him anymore.

His eyes were red, and his breathing was ragged. ’Harry is dead.’

The thought kept repeating in his mind. He charged toward another group of zombies. His movements became increasingly reckless.

One zombie scratched his arm. Another nearly tore through his shoulder.

"Dai Xi!"

Kong Ming rushed toward him. But before he could reach him, several zombies surrounded Dai Xi.

He managed to kill two. Then a third grabbed him.

Dai Xi struggled desperately before another zombie sank its teeth into his neck.

His body went limp.

"Dai Xi!"

Kong Ming’s cry echoed across the battlefield.

Wilson, who had still been standing there in shock, finally seemed to snap out of his daze.

He rushed forward with tears streaming down his face. "No... no, no..."

Kong Ming grabbed him before he could throw himself into the swarm.

"Don’t go!"

"Let me go!"

"You’re going to die too!"

Wilson struggled desperately. "They’re dead! Harry and Dai Xi are dead!"

Kong Ming’s voice broke. "I know!"

For a moment, the two men simply stood there, surrounded by the sounds of battle.

The battlefield was still filled with traps, electric wires, laser beams, and desperate fighters.

Yet none of it could bring back the two people they had lost.

By the time the zombie tide finally weakened, Harry and Dai Xi were already dead.

Out of the four men, only Wilson and Kong Ming survived.

Even then, neither of them was in good condition.

Wilson had suffered several injuries, and Kong Ming’s left arm was badly torn.

When Ni Mengxue saw their condition through the base’s surveillance connection, she could only purse her lips.

Even with all the preparations, all the traps, and so many people fighting together, they had still lost two lives.

And the two who remained were barely holding on.

She surveyed the entire battlefield, feeling somewhat helpless.

It had been her conscious decision not to interfere, and now many people were dying. However, Ni Mengxue wasn’t particularly emotional about their deaths.

She was more worried that her citizens would be completely wiped out, leaving no one behind to support or maintain her base.

As that thought crossed her mind, she quickly closed the surveillance screen and noticed a bar that had suddenly appeared on the system interface.

It was currently at 90%.

Ni Mengxue frowned. ’What is this 90% supposed to mean?’

She couldn’t figure it out, so she closed the system’s holographic screen and entered her space.

The vegetables had grown considerably.

She now had leafy greens and various other vegetables, from potatoes and tomatoes to beetroots, radishes, carrots, and more. Looking at the thriving crops, Ni Mengxue couldn’t help but feel proud.

At this rate, even if she didn’t exchange anything through the system or spend a single zombie crystal, she could still secure a good life for her husbands.

Satisfied, she left the space. The moment she stepped outside, she heard voices coming from the villa.

Ni Mengxue first checked on Lu Yucai, who was sleeping peacefully, before walking outside.

When she saw Meng Xiaoni, surprise flickered in her eyes, but she quickly concealed it. She calmly walked toward him and smiled.

"Mr. Meng."

Meng Xiaoni paused for a fraction of a second at the formal address before giving a faint nod.

"I heard that you were all leaving. I thought I’d come to see you off."

Ni Mengxue paused briefly.

"Really? Then Mr. Meng is truly kind-hearted. We are planning to leave by evening."

She hesitated before continuing in a gentler tone.

"If you encounter any problems, just head toward Fair Shallow Land. It’s about two hundred kilometers from Silent Kight Base. You only need to keep walking straight and avoid taking any turns. If you can’t locate it, you can post an escort mission at Silent Kight Base requesting someone to take you to Fair Shallow Land. Someone will definitely notice it, and someone will accept the mission."

Meng Xiaoni paused. "Fair Shallow Land Base?"

It was the first time he had heard of such a place.

Even minor bases were usually known among survivors, but he had never heard of a base called Fair Shallow Land.

Ni Mengxue smiled.

"Yes. That’s our destination, and it’s a newly established base. Don’t worry. I’ve already investigated it. It’s safe. If you encounter any trouble, just head there. I’ll be there to protect you."

Meng Xiaoni adjusted his glasses and gave a faint nod. His expression remained as stoic as ever, without any obvious emotion in his eyes.

After everyone finished packing, Ni Mengxue personally wheeled Lu Yucai outside.

Before leaving, however, Meng Xiaoni decided to speak with Lu Yucai in private.

They met in the room where Lu Yucai and Ni Mengxue had been staying.

"Take care of her." Meng Xiaoni stated.

Lu Yucai stared at him for a moment. His gaze seemed to pass through Meng Xiaoni before he finally asked, "Do you like Ni Mengxue?"

Meng Xiaoni smiled faintly.

"This is the second time you’ve asked me that, and my answer is still the same."

Lu Yucai blinked. "All right. Then I’ll take your word for it."

Meng Xiaoni nodded, his expression unchanged.

The next moment, Lu Yucai continued, "But if I see you near Ni Mengxue, I’ll definitely shoo you away. I’ll even try to drive you away if necessary."

Meng Xiaoni paused before turning toward the floor-to-ceiling window. "Really? But for that, you need to be alive first."
