Chapter 1373 - 1369: Poisonous Bird Droppings

  • Next Chapter

The Dragon Spirit was just cracking melon seeds, when he suddenly saw Yun Ran’s big umbrella, and his body reacted faster than his brain out of sheer instinct.

With a whoosh, he went straight to huddle under Yun Ran’s umbrella.

Anyone who’s ever dealt with Yun Ran should know: when facing danger, Yun Ran never does anything extra.

"Did you sense some kind of danger?"

Luckily the umbrella in Yun Ran’s hand was big enough, otherwise even with the Dragon Spirit crowding over, they really wouldn’t have been covered.

"Crack"—the sound of a melon seed being split, followed by the sound of Yun Ran chewing.

Dragon Spirit: ...

He’s trying to talk about serious business, and Yun Ran, of all people, is still snacking on melon seeds at a time like this!

Just as he was about to keep asking, reality gave him the most perfect answer.

Several splats of bird droppings landed wetly on the umbrella’s surface, making soft plopping sounds. The Dragon Spirit’s expression instantly turned dark.

"Damn!"

So it was a bird-dropping attack!

The slightly germaphobic Dragon Spirit touched the area over his heart with lingering fear. Fortunately, he trusted Yun Ran and came over in time to dodge.

Otherwise, his body would’ve been...

Ugh, just imagining it was disgusting, it even made him feel a little like gagging.

Yun Ran and the Dragon Spirit were perfectly clean, but the others weren’t nearly so lucky.

They’d been on edge, guarding against being ambushed, even dividing part of their attention to those birds that had been startled into flying wildly.

But none of them expected that the first wave of attacks would actually be bird droppings falling from the sky.

The ones who reacted quickly didn’t get hit, though they were still thoroughly disgusted.

Those who were slower could only furiously tear off their clothes when they saw the bird droppings smeared on them.

"Ah!"

They thought that wave of bird-dropping attacks was already over, when suddenly something changed.

The ones stained with bird droppings let out low growls that didn’t sound human at all, their eyes even starting to turn red as their bodies twisted in pain.

Yun Ran’s hand paused mid-seed-crack; her gaze, which had been curious at first, turned icy in an instant.

"These bird droppings are poisonous!"

The Dragon Spirit’s expression shifted too, a flash of disgust crossing his eyes. He’d never seen anyone use such filthy methods.

What kind of decent person would take advantage of the droppings from a flock of startled birds?

"This batch of enemies is really crossing the line."

The Azure Dragon, who hadn’t yet made a move, saw that at least a third of the team had been hit. The pained howls erupting one after another were clearly undermining morale.

His gaze hardened; he raised his hand, spread his five fingers, then clenched forcefully. The birds that had flown some distance away suddenly seemed to slam into something.

In the next second, the air rippled faintly, and then those birds exploded mid-flight into a mist of blood.

Under normal circumstances, that blood mist would disperse directly and then fall, spreading across the ground.

But the birds the Azure Dragon had crushed with that gesture were trapped inside an invisible air cage with no visible boundary.

Countless strands of blood mist quickly turned into a mass of turbid liquid, suspended in midair.

The Dragon Spirit watched all this with a less-than-pleasant expression, because he himself had been trapped by that same air cage before.

He hadn’t expected this air cage to massacre so many Lives so easily.

"Didn’t think the Divine Hall people would strike so fast and accurately—just a raise of the hand and that many birds are dead!"

The Dragon Spirit admitted he was kind of whispering negativity into ears, but more than that, he was genuinely rattled by how decisive the Azure Dragon’s nature was.

"The bird droppings are that poisonous. You really think those birds could keep living? For them, death might actually be a release."

The Dragon Spirit thought it over. True enough, those birds were unlucky too, targeted and used as tools to scheme against others.

"What a pity..."

Among everyone present, the one who could Empathize with those birds the most was the Dragon Spirit, a Life born of heaven and earth itself.

The Dragon Spirit lowered his voice and leaned close to Yun Ran’s ear: "Should we go help? It’s only the second day since we set out, and because of a bunch of birds, a whole third of the people just got played..."

At that moment, the Dragon Spirit seemed to finally grasp why the Divine Hall had gone to such lengths to invite Yun Ran to travel with them.

Clearly, they knew this journey wouldn’t be peaceful.

The ones suffering today were blatantly expendable.

"Go take a look. Your blood has a certain restraining effect on weird poisons like this."

Dragon Spirit: ...

He was going to help, not to donate himself, okay? His blood could only be drawn by Yun Ran; as for anyone else—yeah, right, they can keep daydreaming!

"Forget it, I’m not joining that circus. If the Divine Hall people can’t even avoid basic traps like this on the road, they might as well turn back halfway!"

The Azure Dragon finished dealing with the troublesome birds.

The Bald Monk hadn’t been idle either; he took out a bottle of antidote Medicine and handed it to those beside him, telling them to spread out and feed it to their poisoned comrades.

The Divine Hall’s products were no worse than Yun Ran’s; in less than fifteen minutes, the poisoned people quieted down.

But the damage they’d taken seemed irreversible. The poison was gone, yet those people seemed unable to stand properly anymore.

The scene before them even made those who’d long since put life and death aside feel a flicker of fear.

This had been just a flock of birds, and the enemy hadn’t even shown their face.

The Young Prince’s expression was extremely ugly. He knew this mission was enormously dangerous and believed himself fully prepared.

But everything in front of him slapped him hard in the face.

It was naked mockery, really—mocking him for daring to covet the Fallen God Seed, for completely overestimating himself.

"Everyone, pull yourselves together. Move all the injured to the safe area!"

The killing intent hanging in the air grew even thicker.

The Dragon Spirit drew his Magic Artifact and squeezed it tightly, a rare trace of caution flashing in his eyes.

"Something’s wrong with this aura. That bloody smell we caught before, and the wind blowing toward us—they were all deliberately manufactured!"

Maybe they’d already been caught in the trap the moment they showed up here.

The people who seemed to have been ruined just by bird droppings probably weren’t only poisoned by the birds.

Yun Ran closed her umbrella, then raised her hand and hurled it toward the woods not far away.

No one expected Yun Ran to be the first to strike—or to be so ruthless about it. The umbrella flew out like a shell launched from a cannon.

"What did you sense?"

The Azure Dragon appeared beside Yun Ran without warning; his sudden question left Yun Ran speechless.

"I’m just testing things. Don’t you go pinning all your hopes on me!"
