CAIUS: Crown of Threads and Shadows

CHAPTER 257: THE SCYTHE OF THE GOD

  • Next Chapter

High above the ash-covered battlefield, the Eclipsed Tri-Ocular Sovereign circled, its golden eyes feeding a real-time, three-dimensional tactical map directly into Caius’s Mind Sea.

Below, the center was held fast. The six-foot Orc General and the heavy ranks of the Obsidian Legion stood like an unyielding mountain, their war mages raining elemental death onto the trapped Nerathil vanguard while thick pools of black, boiling blood rapidly formed beneath their boots.

"The center is locked," Caius murmured from the top of the ziggurat. "Time to collapse the trap."

Reaching into his Dimension Bead, Caius flicked a thread of dark mana into a heavy obsidian casket. Out from the shadow stepped High Lord Lorien's Puppet. Reanimated from the high-elf lord's physical corpse, the construct crackled with artificial kinetic lightning, its pristine elven frame encased in tailored Obsidian Chitin Armor. Atop its brow rested a crude, gold-painted iron crown, serving as a mocking symbol of its former status.

Lorien plummeted from the sky, slamming into the exact center of the battleline with crushing velocity. Activating High Lord's Dominion, Lorien’s reinforced nervous system exploded with blinding kinetic arc-lightning, flash-frying the internal organs of hundreds of Nerathil beasts in an instant and reducing their torsos to smoking, bubbling cavities of scorched meat while solidifying the central wall into an impenetrable fortress.

With the center secure, Caius turned his attention to the wings.

To the left wing, reinforcing the ten thousand five hundred Bead-Bound souls, Caius deployed the skeletal necromancer Mal'kor alongside the giant construct Thrum. Thrum leaped into the fray, invoking Caldera Shockwave by slamming its massive obsidian fists into the earth, sending tectonic faultlines of volcanic heat ripping through the Nerathil's right flank, instantly boiling the blood within thousands of limbs and causing them to burst open in geysers of scalding crimson mist.

Beside the construct, Mal'kor raised his ancient dragon-bone staff, unleashing a thick cloud of Necrotic Miasma that instantly rotted the flesh off living bone, dissolving armor and skin into stinking black sludge while the trapped horde shrieked in absolute agony, clawing frantically at their own melting faces as their eyeballs liquefied in their sockets.

To the right wing, Caius unleashed the Orc chieftain puppets: Krag'gath, Borgath, and Gor'muka. Krag'gath shattered the Nerathil line with an Iron Siege Breaker overhead strike that caved in chests and pulverized skulls into wet fragments of bone and brain matter, while Borgath entered a whirlwind Flesh-Tearer Frenzy, his blades spinning like a meat grinder to carve through armored chitin and human-sized limbs like wet parchment, sending flying showers of arterial spray and torn viscera across the plain. Gor'muka swept around the edge with Dire-Fang Pursuit, tearing throats out with brutal efficiency and cutting off any chance of retreat.

The hundred-and-twenty-thousand-strong horde was completely encircled, squeezed in a suffocating vice of blazing sun-fire and relentless obsidian heavy infantry.

Sensing their imminent destruction, the deeper Nerathil commanders attempted to reorganize, signaling a tactical fallback, but Caius’s eyes flashed gold.

"Not a single one leaves."

Space rippled behind him as seven Vel'xul Stalkers materialized. Their sleek, black humanoid frames wrapped in thread-reinforced sinew shifted silently, and beneath their featureless obsidian masks, their four vertical eye slits glowed with the blinding white light of the Sun Calamity Forge.

Having mastered the solar cultivation, the stalkers had evolved, and two double-edged, venom-dripping blade tails now swished violently behind each construct, dripping caustic fluid that sizzled and smoked against the ash-covered ground.

Using Shadow Movement and spatial steps, the seven stalkers vanished from reality and reappeared directly behind the Nerathil command nodes. Operating with 360-degree vision, their dual tails and kinetic obsidian claws became an absolute blur of radiant sun-fire and flashing steel. Heads flew into the air in fountains of dark blood as the stalkers systematically decapitated every Nerathil commander on the field, severing spines and opening chests with surgical brutality. When their internal energy reserves ran low, they slipped back into spatial folds, returning safely to Caius's Crown Core to recharge.

With their command structure dismantled, only the ten thirty-foot Behemoths remained, lumbering war-monsters of fused iron and rotting flesh charging toward the lines to break the pincer.

Caius unsealed his Court Nodes. "Clear the field."

Five terrifying manifestations erupted onto the plain.

The Shadow Knight dropped first, raising its massive Obsidian Tower Shield to block a Behemoth's crushing blow. Utilizing Kinetic Absorption, it absorbed the thirty-foot beast's full impact before releasing a devastating Kinetic Shockwave through its war mace that shattered the monster's legs, instantly caving in its massive skeletal structure and burying it under tons of its own collapsed flesh.

The Black Sabre-Lightning Tiger blurred across the plain via Plasma Movement, leaving crackling streaks of violet electricity in its wake. It unleashed Chain Lightning, paralyzing three Behemoths instantly and cooking their central nervous systems until thick smoke poured from their open maws, its saber tail slicing cleanly through their thick, iron-fused hide to send massive sheets of rotting muscle sliding off exposed ribcages.

The Black Flame Demon roared, its magma-veined body radiating blistering heat that melted the surrounding earth into bubbling glass. Stepping inside the guard of a Behemoth, it plunged its fist straight into the creature's chest, executing Core Incineration and burning the monster from the inside out into a towering pillar of ash that collapsed inward upon itself.

The Arachne Princess phase-shifted through two sweeping iron clubs, weaving Spatial Silk and Crown Thread to bind two Behemoths in mid-stride, anchoring them rigidly into space before coating them in corrosive venom that hissed and boiled as it dissolved their flesh down to clean, pitted bone.

Finally, the 4-Winged Obsidian Archangel descended from the clouds, its four blade-like obsidian wings flaring to manipulate the surrounding atmosphere with Spatial Wing Resonance. Raising its massive Plasma Greatsword, the Archangel swept through the air in a blinding flash of divine power, cleanly bisecting the last remaining Behemoths in single, god-like slashes that sent torrents of boiling black blood cascading across the battlefield like an erupting geyser.

As the sun sank below the horizon, total, oppressive silence fell over the ash plains. One hundred and twenty thousand Nerathil, along with their ten iron Behemoths, lay entirely annihilated in a vast, smoking sea of red gore, shattered bone, and drifting white ash.

Standing atop the mountain of black blood and pulverized chitin, the surviving Æthrynn warriors and the twenty-one thousand Bead-Bound souls raised their sun-blazing spears toward the apex of the ziggurat, letting out a thunderous, earth-shaking roar of absolute victory that echoed across the crimson horizon.
