CAIUS: Crown of Threads and Shadows

CHAPTER 253: THE SOLAR PURIFICATION

At the base of the monolithic ziggurat, the grand plaza was transformed into an ocean of slate-gray skin and polished steel. Twenty-five thousand Æthrynn warriors, marshaled from every nearby city and mountain citadel within three days' march, stood packed shoulder-to-shoulder. They looked up at the flat apex of the temple pyramid with wide, fearful eyes, waiting for the deity who had summoned them to war.

Caius stepped out onto the highest stone ledge. He didn't waste breath on grand speeches or political platitudes.

Instead, his Crown Core roared to life. A blinding golden circle expanded behind his back, and with a flick of his wrists, twenty-five thousand incandescent threads shot out from his fingertips like a cascading waterfall of golden light. The threads rained down across the plaza, precision-striking the crown points of every single warrior below.

A collective gasp echoed across the valley as the neural blueprint of the Sun Calamity Forge was violently forced into their energy pathways.

For three straight days, nobody moved from the plaza. The Æthrynn warriors sat cross-legged on the flagstones, their bodies absorbing the holy cultivation loop forced into their cores. The entire city burned with a blinding, incandescent glow so brilliant it turned the bruised crimson night into perpetual daylight. The air thrummed with dense, purified solar mana, scorching away centuries of accumulated shadow rot from the stone streets.

Standing along the upper terrace, Nyzekh, Bruga, and their surviving companions watched the terrifying spectacle in stunned silence.

Bruga leaned on his greataxe, his jaw slack as he stared at the twenty-five thousand glowing warriors. "This... this is madness."

Nyzekh’s dark eyes flickered with disbelief. He vividly remembered his own martial upbringing, the brutal, agonizing years spent inside subterranean chasm chambers beneath the Gale Citadel at the steppe. Though only a single year had passed in the outside world, the time-dilated chambers had forced them through years of bone-breaking body-bending and core refinement just to master basic blade forms.

Yet here stood Caius, entirely bypassing decades of grueling training for an entire army in seventy-two hours through sheer, absurd force of will and thread manipulation. To Nyzekh, it wasn't just mastery, it was a terrifying distortion of natural martial law.

Over the next two weeks, the Æthrynn forces rapidly organized. Promising veterans rose as commanders, structuring the twenty-five thousand warriors into twenty-five square cohorts of a thousand men each.

Because martial supplies were severely limited, forging new armor for such a massive host was impossible. Caius adapted. Walking through the ranks, he wove fine lattice threads of solar mana directly into their existing crude leather, bronze, and iron gear. When the warriors channeled their newly cultivated sun mana, their weathered armor hardened to match tempered steel, and their spears and axes erupted in roaring, white-gold solar fire.

Once the formations were locked, Caius looked down at the assembled commanders standing at the base of the steps.

"Take this cultivation method and pass it down to the civilians in your cities," Caius commanded, his voice carrying clearly across the ranks. "Use it to purge the blighted rot from their bodies."

A heavy silence fell over the leaders before Caius added a grim, solemn warning.

"Know this: for those whose flesh is already ninety percent consumed by the rot, the solar fire will incinerate what is left of them. They cannot be saved. But for those with less than fifty percent corruption, this method will burn the blight away and grant them back their lives."

The declaration struck the Æthrynn like a holy decree. He was not merely giving them weapons for a war they thought unwinnable. He was offering a cure for the agonizing curse that had slowly eroded their civilization for centuries.

Any lingering doubt in the minds of the slate-gray people evaporated into thin air. As the twenty-five thousand warriors slammed their burning spears against their shields in rhythmic, thunderous praise, Caius’s undisputed godhood was permanently etched into the soul of the Red Realm.
