CAIUS: Crown of Threads and Shadows
CHAPTER 218: THE LIVING FORGE
The subterranean vault beneath Castle Precipice had been transformed into a cold, surgical sanctuary. No tables marred the chamber; instead, thousands of micro-thin, pitch-black Arachne threads descended from the vaulted ceiling like a dense web, anchored to a seamless floor of mirror-polished obsidian.
In the center of the room, Grand Commander Teryn hung suspended four feet above the obsidian floor.
His body floated horizontally in mid-air, held taut by black spatial threads bound to his wrists, ankles, and neck. His breathing was slow and measured, his chest bare as the threads vibrated with a faint, violet luminescence, keeping his body locked in complete zero-gravity stasis.
Standing beside the floating commander, Caius levitated lightly on a disk of condensed shadow, his demeanor that of a cold, clinical doctor-mage. Hovering at his left was the senior Arachne weaversmith, a sleek, six-armed humanoid hybrid whose slender obsidian fingers spun continuous filaments of iridescent, high-density spatial silk.
"We begin with the commander," Caius spoke softly, his voice devoid of emotion. "If his frame cannot hold the synthesis, the captains will not survive it."
Teryn did not flinch. "Proceed, Sovereign."
Caius gestured to the weaver. Moving with terrifying agility, the six-armed Arachne danced around Teryn’s suspended frame, driving dozens of glowing silver needles into his floating meridian points. Taut black threads immediately plunged straight into Teryn’s flesh, locking his spine, limbs, and core in mid-air.
Caius raised his right hand, his gauntlet dissolving into pure black mana. From his spatial ring, he produced a crackling, fist-sized monster core, the volatile, sky-dominating core of a two-headed Abyssal Eagle harvested from the upper dark rifts.
"Calamity Forge," Caius whispered.
Spouts of pitch-black, suffocating flame erupted from Caius’s palm, engulfing the two-headed eagle core. The abyssal fire burned with terrifying intensity, incinerating the wild beast's residual instincts, territorial pride, and lingering soul-will in real time until it condensed into a molten drop of pure, silver-black spatial lightning.
"Hold your mind," Caius warned, his hand moving with absolute surgical precision.

With a single fluid thrust, Caius pressed his flaming palm directly above Teryn’s suspended heart meridian.
Teryn’s body arched violently into the air, the black threads holding him snapping taut like guitar strings. A choked, blood-curdling gasp escaped his throat as the molten eagle core was driven straight into his human core. The two energies clashed like colliding stars, threatening to detonate his floating chest from the inside out.
"Weave!" Caius commanded.
The Arachne weaversmith moved like a whirlwind around the floating warrior, her six hands guiding filaments of raw Obsidian Lattice straight into Teryn’s open wounds. Caius channeled his custom-engineered manual, the Bladed Angel Art, directly into Teryn’s burning neural pathways.
Together, master and weaver dismantled Teryn’s biology in mid-air. They dissolved his human muscle fibers, stitching in kinetic-absorbing sinews. They stripped his shoulder blades and re-architected his upper spine into a celestial weapon frame modeled after the ancient form of the Obsidian Seraph.
Flesh parted and bones cracked with metallic snaps. Unhindered by any floor beneath him, two compact, razor-sharp wings forged of layered obsidian feathers erupted violently from Teryn’s floating back, unfurling completely into the air. For now, they were small, cherub-sized constructs hovering with a tight, lethal vibration that hummed with Spatial Wing Resonance, built to evolve and expand as his cultivation grew.
With a final, decisive strike, Caius drove a refined artificial essence bead into Teryn’s crown point, sealing the fusion.
"Into the pool," Caius ordered.
Caius flicked his wrist, severing the black suspension threads. Teryn’s suspended body dropped smoothly straight down into the nearby Black Mana Pool fed by the roots of the World Tree.
The pitch-black water churned violently. Concentrated dark mana roared into Teryn’s newly forged meridians like a tidal wave, stitching his ruptured pathways together, stabilizing the fused eagle core, and quenching the burning obsidian wings on his back.
Moments later, the water parted.
Teryn stepped out of the pool, exhaling a plume of dark, pressurized mist. His skin possessed a polished, dark luster laced with faint violet veins. Behind his shoulders, the pair of cherub-sized obsidian blade-wings hovered with absolute stability. His eyes flared open, burning with twin-gold celestial fire as an oppressive, divine authority flooded the entire subterranean vault.
Without a second of hesitation, the newly reborn Grand Commander dropped heavily onto one knee before Caius. Steel struck obsidian as he slammed his fist over his heart, the pair of razor-thin obsidian wings fanning out behind his back in a sharp, crisp salute.
Teryn bowed his head low, his voice reverberating with a dual-toned, resonant weight, part human commander, part spatial apex beast.
"My Lord..." Teryn pledged softly, his voice trembling with profound, unshakeable devotion. "...and Sovereign."
In the high gallery above, Old Bones stood frozen against the stone wall, watching the winged commander kneel before their master, realizing with a cold shudder that Caius had just birthed something divine.
