CAIUS: Crown of Threads and Shadows

CHAPTER 198: THE DEEP VAULTS OF PRECIPICE

  • Next Chapter

Beneath the heavy granite foundations of Castle Precipice, the living rock of the mountain had been carved away to form an intricate labyrinth of subterranean chambers.

Deep within the dark abyss of the lower strata, nine massive cavernous chambers had been excavated. The walls of every chamber were reinforced with tightly woven thread magic, creating an unbreakable seal against collapse or spatial intrusion.

At the absolute center of each cavern rested a large, glowing mana crystal. These artifacts had been crafted personally by Caius within his crown core, humming with a steady, concentrated resonance.

Extending from each crystal, delicate threads of crystallized mana pierced the bedrock. They tapped directly into the ancient ley lines of the earth, siphoning a constant, inexhaustible supply of ambient mana energy to fuel the chambers above.

The vast subterranean complex was a marvel of autonomous engineering, entirely maintained by thousands of drone Arachnes. Some of these mechanical spiders were as large as a hound, designed for heavy lifting and structural repair. Others were as small as a human hand, slipping into the tightest crevices to clean, polish, and monitor the warded walls.

The first cavern served as the realm's logistical heart. Endless rows of weapon supplies, vast food storage silos, and sprawling warehouses filled the cavern floor, packed tightly enough to sustain an entire army through years of absolute isolation.

This book's true home is on another platform. Check it out there for the real experience.

Guarded by heavy runic gates and autonomous spatial wards, the second cavern functioned as the central treasury. Within its heavily reinforced perimeter sat the vault for the castle fund and accumulated riches, glowing with the muted wealth of a unified empire.

The third cavern pulsed with a strange, organic warmth. This was the Arachne hatchery, where rows of translucent incubation pods and pulsing sac-molds hummed with life under the glow of the central mana crystal.

Though the Arachne are naturally apex hunters, their predatory instincts and biological development are strictly controlled by Caius through the pulsing energy of the central crystal.

The dense ambient mana siphoned from the earth accelerates their growth exponentially, though this forced maturation halts precisely at each creature's designated tier.

Within these nurturing chambers, drone-class specimens possessing exceptional combat potential undergo a critical transformation. They first molt their primary exoskeletons, and upon their subsequent molt, they break free as lethal, multi-armed humanoid Arachne and massive beast warriors.

Beyond the hatchery rows, the sprawling chamber served as the permanent quarters for these advanced units, resting in silent, predatory readiness under the sovereign's watch.

In the fourth cavern lay the Arachne weaversmith fabrication chamber. This was the industrial heart of the subterranean domain, where specialized weaversmith units manipulated thread magic and raw metals to forge complex gear, reinforce structural lattices, and construct advanced mechanical components.

The fifth cavern opened into a vast underground hall. Carved with soaring arches and polished black stone pillars, this subterranean chamber served as a grand assembly and command space, echoing with quiet authority whenever strategic councils were called beneath the mountain.
