Building a Perfect Territory in the Mist

Chapter 238: Dare to Steal My People? I’ll Make Him Suffer a Crushing Defeat

Everything in the territory proceeded as usual.

On the city walls, the Beastmen and Archers patrolled as they always did.

Blood Roar and Dahou continued to explore the outside, exterminating the monsters that roamed the nearby Fog.

Shen Xing, meanwhile, remained in the territory, silently absorbing Soul Stones.

Time passed slowly.

Soon, it was the dead of night.

The great black Fog, like roiling ink, crept and flowed at the Firelight Edge.

Most of the Soldier Types in the territory had already entered a resting State.

The workers returned to the communal dormitories, enjoying their relaxation after a day’s work.

The snores of the Beastmen echoed throughout the territory, accompanied by bouts of wolf howls.

Even the Tree-man Warriors, who had just broken through the earth today, had Rooted themselves back into the ground and entered a dormant State.

Only a few watchtowers were scanning the surroundings back and forth.

On the city walls, a few Beastmen were chatting in ‘low voices’ as they patrolled.

“Hey, brother! Did you try it? They developed a new kind of Food in the territory today, and it’s meat!”

“Of course I did! Those meat strips are delicious. I’d say they’re just as good as Moonlight Bread!”

“Oh! I love meat. I’ve been eating nothing but bread for days, I was about to puke!”

“Shut up! No complaining. That’s Food given to us by the Lord.”

“That’s right. They say only the upper class gets to enjoy such delicious bread. We’re already lucky enough.”

As they chatted, they soon passed the South City Gate area.

But just then, several whooshing sounds suddenly cut through the air from the Fog in the distance.

Immediately after, several black bone spikes shot out.

“PFFT! PFFT-PFFT!”

The sounds of penetration rang out. The Beastmen’s bodies all went rigid, and then they fell backward.

A black shadow, like flowing ink, silently reached the edge of the wall. Even the Arrow Towers, which would have attacked automatically, didn’t notice it.

As the black shadow swept past, the fallen Beastmen vanished from where they lay.

The area returned to silence, as if nothing had happened at all.

「Five minutes later.」

Several powerful auras rose from all corners of the territory, then rushed to the city wall at top speed.

Now, everyone was gathered together.

The two great generals, Blood Roar and Hellish Roar, were crouched on the ground, examining the soon-to-be-dry bloodstains on the wall.

Nearby stood Hei and Black Arrow. Both were silent, but the flames dancing in their eyes revealed their restless hearts.

Shen Xing slowly approached in his wheelchair, with Reina by his side.

“Lord, you were right. These bastards have struck again.”

Hellish Roar said in a deep voice, “A total of five Beastmen are missing this time. The enemy is getting bolder.”

Shen Xing nodded slightly. His gaze swept over the bloodstains on the ground, then turned to the distant Fog, a contemplative look in his eyes.

“Boss, let me go!” Blood Roar actively volunteered. “I can still smell the scent of Beastman blood in the air. If I follow it, I’ll definitely find their base.”

When Blood Roar advanced, he had awakened the [Blood Hunt] Talent, which allowed him to track targets over extremely long distances using the scent of blood.

“Alright, then go,” Shen Xing said with a nod. “Contact me anytime with the Communication Crystal. Report any anomalies immediately.”

“Yes, sir!”

Blood Roar nodded solemnly, a vicious glint flashing in his scarlet beast-like eyes.

Then he leaped down from the city wall, and a Bloody Giant Wolf charged out, steadily catching its master.

A Horse Lantern was lit. The Bloody Giant Wolf set off with its powerful strides, and in just a few bounds, it charged into the dense Fog.

Shen Xing and the others stood on the wall, their gazes growing cold as they watched the firelight recede into the distance.

…

…

「Half an hour later.」

In a hidden underground space somewhere in the Black Wing Plain.

A group of figures in strange clothes and with bizarre body shapes were gathered together.

They sat on the ground around a blazing Campfire, seemingly holding a banquet.

And roasting on a spit over the Campfire was some unknown four-legged creature, its skin already glistening with oil.

The orange-yellow firelight flickered, illuminating one ugly face after another.

Some had pig snouts, some were covered in downy fur, and others had curved horns growing from their foreheads.

Even those whose facial features seemed normal more or less bore the traits of Magical Beasts or wild animals.

Just then, a figure in a gray robe holding a withered scepter approached from not far away.

All the figures prostrated themselves on the ground, foreheads to the dirt, respectfully welcoming this person’s arrival.

“My dear brethren, I am gratified that on this night, in this forsaken land, we can gather here…”

The gray-robed figure spoke in a low voice, his entire face hidden beneath his hood.

“We were born extraordinary. Even though we were exiled, abandoned by those vile humans, we are still watched over by the All-Mother.”

“Remember, our bloodline is not a curse, but a gift from the Mother of Blood.”

“The Mother of Blood grants us healthy bodies and beast-like Power, something those humans can never possess.”

“They fear the Fog. They are weak. They build high walls of stone to hide their fear.”

He grew more and more agitated as he spoke, his voice carrying a peculiar, infectious quality, like a fire spreading across a dry wasteland.

“We will breach the humans’ great city and take back the home that was once ours!”

“We will destroy their churches and erect a statue of the Mother of Blood upon the ruins!”

“We will drag those high-and-mighty rulers from their thrones, drain their blood, and offer it at the feet of the All-Mother!”

“Praise the Mother of Blood!”

The prostrated, mixed-blood creatures below echoed in unison.
