Building a Perfect Territory in the Mist
Chapter 139 - 104: Demon Army, Points Skyrocket
Chapter 139: Chapter 104: Demon Army, Points Skyrocket
An aura of death emanated from every corner of the mountain range.
It was like a dying black Giant Dragon, prostrated upon the earth, taking its last, labored breaths.
[You have discovered a special area: Black Heaven’s Wings Mountain Range...]
...
"That name’s a bit intense."
Shen Xing glanced at the system notification, then his eyes refocused on the map.
The flashing red dot was not far ahead and to the right, about two kilometers away.
"Fried Chicken, keep moving."
"CHIRP!"
The Horned Eagle responded obediently, diving into the mountain range with a beat of its wings.
Below, vast stretches of black forest receded swiftly. Every so often, a massive chasm would come into view.
Soon, Shen Xing spotted his target at the bottom of a ravine several dozen meters deep.
Deep underground, the wide mouth of a cave could be seen, emanating a piercing red glow.
Even before they got close, he could feel waves of heat washing over him.
Shen Xing had Fried Chicken carry him straight into the cave entrance, plunging them into a deep, dark tunnel.
The passage was wide enough for a giant bird like Fried Chicken to navigate with ease.
It was hot inside, and the temperature rose the deeper they went.
They followed the winding path deeper and deeper. After flying for several minutes, they still hadn’t reached the end.
Shen Xing estimated that they were already at least several hundred meters underground.
’This cave is seriously deep.’ he thought.
Finally, as Fried Chicken rounded a bend in the passage, the scene before them changed abruptly.
What now appeared before Shen Xing was an immense subterranean cavern.
The space within was exceptionally vast, as if they had entered the Underworld.
A winding river of magma flowed slowly by.
On the surrounding stone walls, more magma cascaded down, forming waterfalls of lava.
"This place... is quite spectacular."
"Once I develop it a bit, I could turn it into a tourist attraction. Maybe build a roller coaster leading in from the outside. That’d be pretty cool."
Shen Xing mused to himself as he surveyed his surroundings.
"SKREEE!"
Fried Chicken seemed to have spotted something. With a flap of its wings, it shot forward several dozen meters.
Shen Xing looked down and saw numerous signs of battle near the magma river.
The black earth was littered with weapon fragments and the corpses of many Inferior Demons and Hellish Imps.
The trail of carnage continued onward, seemingly heading upstream.
"That must be Hellish Roar and the others. Let’s go."
Shen Xing patted Fried Chicken’s back.
The Horned Eagle immediately beat its wings and sped along the magma river.
The scorching temperature distorted the air. Every breath felt like inhaling a ball of fire.
The temperature here was definitely over a hundred degrees Celsius.
Fortunately, Shen Xing was now a Level 9 Lord with a high enough Constitution to withstand such intense heat easily.
After flying for a few hundred meters, they finally seemed to reach the end of the magma river.
Ahead, a massive pool of magma came into view.
The entire pool was over a kilometer or two in diameter, BUBBLING noisily as large numbers of Hell Creatures constantly emerged from it.
There were the common Inferior Demons, Hellish Imps, Flaming Bats, and so on.
There were also some tall, green-skinned monsters wielding iron chains—those were Prison Guards.
The Beastman army, led by Hellish Roar and Blood Roar, was locked in a fierce battle with these Hell Creatures!
But none of that was the most important thing.
What truly captured Shen Xing’s attention was the giant, flaming sword hovering in the center of the magma pool!
The Greatsword was over ten meters long, its blade wreathed in dark red flames. Just looking at it created an overwhelming sense of pressure.
’What a powerful weapon. Its Quality must be extraordinary.’
’I wonder if I can get my hands on it.’
Shen Xing narrowed his eyes, a flicker of desire rising in his heart.
However, the weapon was radiating a terrifying heat that distorted the surrounding air and made the magma below boil.
It didn’t look like it would be easy to obtain.
Shen Xing turned his gaze back to the battlefield.
At that moment, over seventy Beastmen and more than thirty Wolf Cavalry were fighting an enemy that outnumbered them several times over.
The Wolf Cavalry, led by Blood Roar, continuously charged along the edge of the magma pool, Slaying the Hellish Imps that crawled ashore one by one.
The Beastmen, on the other hand, had formed a phalanx to fight off the attacks of the Prison Guards and some Hellhounds.
Hellish Roar was even more impressive, flapping his wings to dart across the battlefield, picking off large numbers of ranged units like Inferior Demons and Flaming Bats.
However, they had only brought one Soldier Type this time—Beastmen—who lacked any ranged capabilities.
Whenever the Inferior Demons and imps threw a volley of Hellfire Balls, the Beastmen were forced to temporarily retreat, their formation thrown into chaos.
Seeing this, Shen Xing immediately gave the order, "Fried Chicken, go."
"SCREEECH—"
Fried Chicken let out a piercing Screech. A gust of wind erupted from between its wings as it shot out like an attack helicopter.
Its massive body swept past, wrapped in a gale that kicked up a wave of heat from the magma, and crashed straight into the densest cluster of monsters.
"SHINK! SHINK-SHINK-SHINK!"
A dense flurry of slicing sounds rang out.
Large numbers of Inferior Demons and Flaming Bats were instantly diced into several pieces by Fried Chicken’s wings. They tumbled into the magma without so much as a splash.
He had taken out over a dozen enemies in one go, and Shen Xing’s points increased by several dozen in tandem.
Fried Chicken’s movements didn’t pause for a second. It glided into a turn mid-air and crashed back into the flying horde.
"SHINK! SHINK-SHINK-SHINK!"
"SPLASH... SPLASH..."
For a moment, the Hell Creatures were slaughtered in droves. The sounds of flesh being cut and the magma pool churning were incessant.
The pressure on the Beastman army instantly lessened.
"Boss, you’re here!"
Blood Roar shouted excitedly as he charged into battle on his Warg. "This place is crawling with monsters! We’re having a blast killing them!"
Nearby, Hellish Roar flapped his wings and flew to his side, his face filled with self-reproach. "Lord, I have been useless. I failed to defeat the enemy after all this time and even troubled you to come here personally."
"As I thought, I am still too weak."
’...’ Shen Xing thought, ’Give me a break. Don’t start crying about how weak you are, only to turn around and pull off some ridiculously flashy, overpowered move. That’s just weird, man.’
But of course, he couldn’t say that out loud. He asked calmly, "There are so many enemies here. Why didn’t you return to the territory for reinforcements in time?"
A flash of guilt crossed Hellish Roar’s eyes. "My deepest apologies. I acted on my own authority. I was too eager for a quick victory."
"The enemies we first encountered weren’t strong. We fought our way from downstream all the way to the source, this magma pool."
"I had intended to retrieve that Flame Greatsword and bring it back to the territory."
"But every time I tried to approach the Greatsword, I was pushed back by a powerful aura."
"And more Hell Creatures kept emerging from this magma lake."
"I managed to slay one Extraordinary Level monster, but I was dragged into a battle of attrition."
He lowered his head, his voice deep. "Please punish me, Lord!"
Shen Xing didn’t speak. Instead, he narrowed his eyes and looked at the Flame Greatsword.
The fact that even Hellish Roar couldn’t get close to it only further proved how remarkable the weapon was.
But for now, it seemed there was no way to claim it.
Besides, this group of Beastmen had been fighting for hours. They were covered in burns and bloody wounds. Their State was poor, and they needed to go back and rest.
"There’s no need to blame yourself, Hellish Roar." Shen Xing comforted him in a calm voice. "Everyone makes mistakes. No one can control a battle with one hundred percent certainty."
"What we need to do is learn from this experience. Failure is the mother of success."
"Failure is the mother of success..." Hellish Roar shuddered, a light flashing in his yellow, beastly eyes. "I understand, Lord! Thank you for your guidance!"
Shen Xing glanced at him and said with his usual expression, "Good. Now lead the Beastmen and retreat for the time being."
"Yes, sir!"
But just as they were preparing to retreat, the center of the magma pool suddenly began to boil violently.
It was as if some powerful creature was awakening. A terrifying aura surged upward, kicking up massive waves of magma.
The next second, a dark red figure shot out from the boiling magma!
