Bride of Retribution: Aloof Billionaire's Dominant Game
Chapter 968 - 506: The Bedroom Becomes a Mourning Hall
There’s nothing in this world more horrifying and frightening than the scene before her eyes. Avery Jane’s petite body shivered like a sieve, her whole body ice-cold.
Her big, watery eyes widened, as if her entire breathing had halted.
In their bedroom, there was a large bed, its white, soft sheets and quilt always made her reluctant to get up. This bed had witnessed countless, frenzied nights of passion and chaos between her and Joshua Hughes, but now it was strewn with white orange blossoms, and the most terrifying thing was the wedding photo hanging on the wall above the headboard. If it were usual, it would be a most beautiful and romantic wedding photo.
In the photo, the bride was shy and charming, her eyes gently closed, her long wedding dress wrapping around her like a fairy standing on clouds. The gentle man kissed her forehead lightly, love flowing like water through the photo.
But now the edges of this beautiful photo were adorned with white orange blossoms, tied with blue silk at the top, forming a flower—a glaring mix of white and blue—resembling a photo displayed in a mortuary, making one shiver. Avery Jane felt as if she had fallen into an ice cellar, cold to the bone. Even with her eyes closed and only showing her profile, she knew that the woman in the photo was her.
But that man was clearly Lucas Yates, her recently acknowledged but now deceased husband.
Time seemed to stop around her, her ears automatically filtering out all sounds, as she remained motionless like a statue. She saw Joshua Hughes dash forward like a black lightning bolt to remove the photo, and realized she couldn’t move her limbs either, as if her soul had floated out of her body. She sat quietly in mid-air, watching Joshua Hughes holding her anxiously, wanting to speak but unable to utter a single word......
Joshua Hughes seemed bewildered, having never faced such a scene in his life.
He entered the bedroom and turned on the wall lamp, intending to take Avery Jane for a hot bath. Almost at the moment the light came on, he simultaneously heard Avery Jane’s terrified scream. Following her line of sight, for an instant he thought he was hallucinating. How could something so eerie and terrifying appear in his own place? Avery’s rapidly dropping body temperature made him realize the gravity of the situation. After removing the photo, he noticed Avery already frozen there, motionless.....
The tall figure blocked her view, his strong arms holding her, quickly exiting the bedroom and leaving the building.
Carrying her into the elevator, they headed straight to the underground parking garage. Joshua Hughes discovered something terrifying and unimaginable—Avery’s eyes were wide open, and she hadn’t blinked once.
She looked like a soulless doll, seemingly a perfect, lifelike wax figure.
Carrying her into the driver’s seat, one arm wrapped around her shoulder, the other tightly gripping the steering wheel. His grip was so firm that his knuckles turned white, as he worriedly watched Avery Jane.
The car was speeding, so fast, how did he still hold her? Avery’s body seemed to move with him, smoothly navigating through the traffic like a deep-sea fish, always following.....
"Get the doctor over here immediately." Joshua Hughes’ low, hoarse voice was filled with anxiety, commanding. Avery’s condition was very wrong, seemingly more serious than last time.
As the car drove into the Hughes Family’s old mansion resembling a castle, the entire place was already brightly lit. The imposing structure stood like a giant in the moonlight. The housekeeper, along with all the servants, was already divided into two rows, standing in the courtyard to welcome the master’s return, as the master of this home hadn’t come back for some time.
Carrying Avery Jane out of the car, he strode inside, the elevator taking them straight to his top floor, which had already been redecorated. The dark tones he liked had been replaced with warm and cheerful beige, a color Avery once saw in a model home in a magazine and repeatedly expressed her fondness for, prompting him to change it.
He laid her on the bed: "Avery, Avery, what’s wrong?" Her eyes were vacant and lifeless, as if she hadn’t heard him at all.
