Bloodbound: The Unwanted Outcast And Her Vampire Mates
Chapter 47-The other whiteblood (2)
Chapter 47: 47-The other whiteblood (2)
"You my dear bloodlord, have been missed."
Kayden broke the hug and laughed. "I missed myself around you," he uttered.
Varitreya rolled her eyes. She had expected nothing else. For Kayden to admit he missed her, she’d have to wait for the sun to rise from the west, but seeing as how he ran to her the minute he earned his freedom back, told her that he missed dearly.
"You’ve been gone for three weeks."
"And apparently that was three weeks too long," he said, pulling her into another hug.
The surrounding students stared at them as though they’d seen an alien. Nobody had ever seen Varitreya behave like this. Not with Addessa, Lumi or even with Zolani.
Kayden could make her laugh and relax. He could make the future queen forget, if only for a few moments, that an entire nation waited for her to inherit its throne.
Rumors had circulated for years that their parents had supposedly discussed a future marriage. The royal Vancrest family and the powerful Krauss house, two whiteblood lines and two ancient families. It was a union that could reshape the political landscape of the vampire nation.
Nothing had ever been officially confirmed but everyone had heard the whispers and since the two rarely were out in public even at the academy, it was the first time the students were catching a glimpse of their intimate interaction.
Maisa watched them carefully. Something inside her chest tightened at how close they were to each other.
The feeling inside her was not quite jealousy or fear. It was much deeper than that. The flower beneath her uniform gave a faint pulse bitterly.
Varitreya felt it, too. Her smile faltered for half a second and Kayden who had just pulled back, noticed.
"What is it?"
"Nothing," she lied. Varitreya quickly turned away but Maisa saw her react to the pulse between them.
Addessa noticed too, the connection between then was growing and even the smallest shift in emotion was communicated. The blackblood’s expression remained unreadable, yet her eyes briefly moved toward Maisa and then toward Kayden.
Something complicated passed through her gaze but she didn’t say a word. It was not her place to comment on the princess or speak of bloodlord Kayden. Unlike Varitreya who gave her face because she was her confidant, for some reason, Kayden has never liked her.
The whiteblood boy has always been there next to Varitreya and as Varitreya’s confidant and warden, she’s been in his circle for long but he’s never acknowledged her. He always treats her like air, important to the princess’s safety and to confide I’m but not visible to him.
She turned away and didn’t bother to offer a greeting. She didn’t want to be embarrassed infront of everyone by having her greeting ignored.
Zolani leaned closer to Maisa. "Don’t worry," she said, feeling through the pulse of her own flower that Maisa was uncomfortable.
Maisa blinked. "About what?" She tried to play it off.
"Kayden," Zolani smiled, she understood what Maisa was worried about. "They’ve been friends since childhood. There’s nothing more between them."
Maisa nodded. "I wasn’t worried."
Zolani’s smile became teasing. "I didn’t say you were."
Maisa’s cheeks warmed. "I wasn’t," she insisted.
"Of course you weren’t but if you were..." her smile brightened. "I’m just informing you that you have absolutely nothing to worry about."
Lumi quietly covered a smile with her hand. She could smell the jealousy in the air and Maisa being possessive about Varitreya and it amused her.
Maisa narrowed her eyes. "You two are terrible."
Zolani laughed softly. Just then, Luan walked passes them and stood next to his sister, he didn’t say a word to anyone, even Lumi. He just stood there, too upset to return to his friends.
Kayden eventually walked toward the student council bus beside Varitreya, the sight alone caused another wave of whispers as the two whitebloods entered together.
Varitreya sat near the front and Kayden dropped into the seat beside her as though he had always belonged there, by her side. Addessa followed and occupied the seat across from them.
Lumi looked at Luan, "Are you sitting with me?"
"No, I intend to sit on the roof," he replied sarcastically, fuming that everyone he knew would rather crush on Kayden. When Kayden wasn’t around, they fluttered him endlessly but the second he returned, he was pushed back to second place.
Lumi sighed. She knew her brother too well and could guess that the evil Prince charming was moody because Kayden had returned and with his return, stole his spotlight.
"Let’s get in," she urged him forward.
Luan paused and glanced at her. "Whose more handsome, me or... ugh! He feigned a gag, "Kayden?"
Lumi had heard the question so many times that she was losing count. She glanced inside the bus, Varitreya had whispered something to Kayden and he laughed.
She froze. The sight of him, laughing so freely and not being an ice block like always was truly captivating. She couldn’t help but be pulled. She swore, for that laugh, she could give up half the books in her private library.
"Oh my god! Not you too!" Luan snapped a finger close to her eyes and snapped her back to reality. "Unbelievable!"
"Sorry," Lumi said, she truly was. "I can’t lie. You have your own charm. His just happens to..."
"Forget it," he turned to enter the bus, his eyes met Kayden’s, the whiteblood smirked, it was clear to Luan that he had heard what they spoke about. "Ugh!" He groaned dramatically as he entered the bus and Lumi followed behind him.
"Come on. Lets head in," Zolani urged Maisa and Sapphire before she stepped inside the bus.
Maisa hesitated at the entrance. She wasn’t a member of the student council or of high ranking blood. She couldn’t even compare to the figures inside, she’d end up feeling out of place.
Sapphire immediately pushed her forward. "Go. What are you waiting for?"
"But..."
"You’re already invited inside. Why would you hesitate?" She asked Maisa. "Just get in or they’ll complain that we are taking time."
Maisa sighed and climbed aboard. The moment she entered, several eyes inside stared at her. Not because she was a redblood but because she was sitting with them.
And outside, more and more vampires were burning with jealousy. To them, Maisa who was a newbie vampire redblood wasn’t worthy of riding in the student council bus.
Sitting with the princess, the grand duke’s son, the blackblood heiress, the blueblood prodigy, the class blueblood heartthrob and with the mixedblood council member, her status wasn’t deserving. But they had no choice but to swallow their grievance as they couldn’t do anything about it, for now.
Sapphire dropped into the seat beside her with a triumphant grin. "I can’t believe this is happening to us."
Maisa laughed quietly. "What can’t you believe"
Sapphire looked around. "We’re actually here. In this exclusive bus... with them," she lowered her voice and pointed at the important figured seated around the bus. "Do you understand how many students would kill to sit in this bus?"
Maisa glanced toward the front. Varitreya and Kayden were talking quietly. Addessa sat across from them, pretending not to listen. Lumi had already opened a book and focused, ignoring her brother who was pouting and Zolani was watching the passing courtyard through the window.
Maisa smiled faintly. "No."
Sapphire shook her head. "All of them, Maisa. All of them!"
Maisa smiled. She loved to see Sapphire so happy and was grateful to Zolani for the invitation that made that moment possible for them.
"Well, take it all in because we don’t know when we’ll get to enjoy this again."
"The best part," Sapphire leaned close to Maisa, her eyes locked on Kayden’s back. "Is that he is here," she lowered her voice even more, "Kayden Krauss, isn’t he just dreamy?" Her voice dropped a notch below a whisoer, but being a bus full of vampires, every single soul in the bus heard her.
"Can you both keep it down," Luan scolded. He was too irritated to bone with Kayden and how dreamy both female and male vampires found him, he didn’t need to listen to it the whole way to Old Scaris. "One more word from you and it will be bye bye, special bus," he warned.
Sapphire shut her mouth. Maisa held her hand and conforted her. She found herself disliking Luan even more, the boy was just too much. ’Why does he have to a jerk all the time?’ She thought, inwardly but didn’t dare say it to his face.
Outside, the other buses were beginning to fill. Students continued whispering, some were staring through windows and others were openly pointing a the council bus.
The sight of the two whitebloods together had become the highlight of the evening before the trip had even begun.
The ice prince had returned, the blood heir was present, the fiery four were complete along and for reasons unknown to the rest of the class, two redbloods sat among them.
No one could explain it, no one understood it but everyone knew one thing that Old Scaris wasn’t going to be a simple school trip.
After everything that had happened at Veris Academy, it was already obvious that nothing involving Maisa Loven was ever going to remain simple.
