Blood on the Canvas, Gold on the Screen
Chapter 476: Borderless Republic of Leisure
Chapter 473: Borderless Republic of Leisure
The rhythmic, heavily muffled thuds echoing through the estate were a testament to the terrifying efficiency of infinite capital.
Vanguard Security operatives did not act like traditional construction workers. They did not shout over the noise, they did not leave trails of debris, and they certainly did not take extended union smoke breaks. Moving with the synchronized, lethal precision of a military extraction team, they wielded suppressed pneumatic hammers and industrial-grade saws to systematically erase the interior architecture of the first floor.
The partition separating the massive sunken lounge from the formal dining hall had simply ceased to exist.
Two operatives in tailored slate-grey suits were currently hauling the remnants of a priceless, custom-carved mahogany dining table out the rear service doors. Immediately behind them, a specialized upholstery crew was rolling out massive, seamless bolts of heavy, storm-cloud crushed velvet. They bonded the plush, hyper-dense polymer foam directly to the foundational concrete where the walls used to stand.
In less than forty-five minutes, the billionaire’s mandate had been executed. The concept of rooms had been violently overthrown.
The entire first floor was now a sprawling, borderless tundra of contiguous, knee-deep cushioning. There were no hallways. There were no thresholds. It was three thousand square feet of uninterrupted, continuous mattress.
"This is deeply unsettling," Courteney muttered, sitting cross-legged near what used to be the entryway. She patted the soft velvet beneath her palms, looking across the vast, open expanse. "It feels like we are living inside a giant padded cell. There are no corners to hide in."
"Corners are the birthplace of dust bunnies and claustrophobia," Alex drawled smoothly. He was lying perfectly flat in the exact geographic center of the newly expanded biome. He had swapped his previous attire for a faded, unbelievably soft vintage band tee and loose, ribbed cotton lounge pants. His dark, unfathomable gaze was fixed on the vaulted ceiling. "By eliminating corners, I have eradicated the necessity of sweeping. The room is now geometrically flawless."
Salma Hayek, wearing a silk camisole and matching shorts, executed an experimental, full-body barrel roll across the former dining room area. She rolled for a solid fifteen feet without encountering a single obstacle, eventually coming to a halt near the glass patio doors.
"He is right," Salma announced, slightly breathless, her eyes wide with reluctant awe. "The friction is completely gone. I just traveled from the center console to the eastern wing without bending my knees."
"Rolling is vastly superior to walking, Salma," Alex praised softly, entirely unbothered by her transit. "It distributes the body weight evenly across the lumbar spine and utilizes kinetic momentum rather than muscular strain. You have discovered the apex method of indoor navigation."
Shakira, however, was not convinced. The fiery pop star sat up, crossing her arms tightly. "This is an acoustic nightmare! There are no walls to absorb the sound! If someone sneezes in the foyer, the reverberation will bounce all the way to the kitchen! How am I supposed to practice my vocal scales if the entire house is one giant echo chamber?"
"You are not supposed to practice your vocal scales, Shakira," Alex lectured, his voice a flat, uncompromising drone. "A vocal scale is a repetitive, high-decibel auditory assault. The open floor plan is a deliberate, psychological deterrent against your hyperactivity. If you sing, every single woman in this room will hear it, and they will hold you accountable. Peer pressure is the ultimate silencer."
"He just weaponized our lack of privacy to force you to shut up, Shaki," Jennifer laughed brightly. She was lounging on her stomach, her chin resting on a stack of silk pillows. "It’s actually brilliant. Mutually assured destruction."
Monica Bellucci elegantly shifted her weight. She wore a simple, pearl-colored satin slip, her dark hair cascading over her shoulders. Her eyes swept across the vast, grey velvet plains with the calculating gaze of an aristocratic conqueror surveying newly acquired territory.
"Privacy is secondary, Jennifer. The real issue is geopolitics," Monica purred, her rich Italian accent dripping with strategic malice. "With the walls gone, the territorial boundaries are completely undefined. Who claims the southern exposure near the windows? Who regulates the perimeter near the climate control vents?"
Angelina Jolie sat up instantly, a wicked, fiercely competitive spark flaring in her eyes. "Monica is right. If this entire floor is a single bed, it operates on the laws of the jungle. I formally claim the western quadrant. It is exactly equidistant between the center snack console and the primary bathroom threshold."
"You cannot unilaterally claim the western quadrant!" Mariah protested loudly, tossing a velvet throw pillow directly at Angelina’s head. "The acoustics are mathematically superior on the west side! That is my zone!"
Angelina caught the pillow effortlessly, tossing it aside with a smirk. "You should have planted a flag faster, Mary. The land grab has already begun."
Gillian Anderson let out a husky, breathless sigh, rubbing her temples. "We are eight adult women, and we are currently fighting over invisible real estate on a giant cushion. Alex, you have created a territorial crisis. Are you going to establish borders, or are you just going to let us declare war on each other?"
Alex did not lift his head. He let out a slow, deeply suffering exhale.
"Borders," Alex reasoned seamlessly, projecting his voice just enough to carry across the velvet expanse, "are a bureaucratic illusion invented by politicians to justify taxing imports. To establish a border in this room, I would have to mandate a physical line. A line requires enforcement. Enforcement requires me to actively care about who is crossing it."
He paused, letting the sheer, impenetrable density of his laziness settle over the arguing divas.
"I absolutely refuse to operate as a border patrol agent in my own home," Alex concluded softly. "We are an open-border, passport-free republic of leisure. You may migrate across the velvet as you please. If Angelina rolls into Mariah’s airspace, it is merely an exercise in diplomatic relations. Figure it out among yourselves."
"That is a recipe for absolute anarchy," Courteney warned, her organizational instincts flaring. She crawled toward the center of the room, dragging a long, heavy silk blanket behind her. "If you won’t govern, I will. We need a visible equator."
Courteney began laying the silk blanket in a straight line across the middle of the room, attempting to physically divide the space.
"Stop right there, Court," Jennifer intervened, her eyes narrowing as she intercepted the other end of the blanket. "If you draw the equator there, you cut me off from the optimal viewing angle of the television monitor. Shift it three feet to the north."
"If I shift it to the north, I am invading Salma’s rolling trajectory!" Courteney argued.
"I need my rolling trajectory!" Salma yelled from the far side of the room, fiercely defending her newly discovered transit route.
Shakira aggressively slapped the floor with her palm. "This is ridiculous! We have three thousand square feet of cushioning, and we are fighting over blanket placement! Alex, tell them to stop drawing lines!"
"I am entirely removed from the legislative process," Alex murmured, his eyes drifting shut. "I am simply the geographic center of the universe. I am the Prime Meridian. As long as none of you attempt to establish a colony directly on my ribcage, your civil wars are entirely your own problem."
Monica let out a rich, musical laugh, elegantly sprawling out across the disputed territory, intentionally ruining Courteney’s silk boundary line.
"He is a terrible sovereign," Monica smiled warmly, resting her head on her arm. "He gives us an infinite kingdom and absolutely zero laws."
"Rules require effort, Monica," Alex murmured, his breathing slowing to a steady, hypnotic rhythm. "Anarchy is fundamentally maintenance-free."
Jennifer giggled, abandoning the blanket and crawling over to rest her head against Alex’s shoulder. Angelina immediately mirrored the movement on his opposite side, ensuring the prime real estate right next to the Prime Meridian was fiercely occupied.
"Fine. Anarchy it is," Jennifer whispered, a bright, deeply affectionate smile on her face. "But if Salma rolls over my hair in her sleep, I am holding the administration accountable."
"The administration is currently out of office," Alex replied effortlessly, pulling the heavy silk duvet higher over his chest.
Surrounded by the chaotic, highly competitive bickering of the industry’s most powerful women, the Slacker King sank deeper into the endless ocean of storm-grey velvet. He had successfully deleted the walls, eradicated the friction of doorways, and outsourced the problem of personal space entirely to the laws of nature. The domestic rebellion had been seamlessly transformed into a game of highly cushioned geopolitics, and he hadn’t burned a single calorie to achieve it.
