Chapter 459: Rescue Mission Anomaly

He had won the battle against the studio, but he had catastrophically lost the war for his nap.

Alex stared blankly at the ceiling, feeling the unwanted, aggressive hum of consciousness coursing through his veins. He was trapped in the waking world, surrounded by six highly entertained women who had formed a unified, impenetrable blockade against his peace.

"I am officially revoking everyone’s speaking privileges," Alex announced, his voice a flat, uncompromising drone. "The oxygen in this room is being wasted on unnecessary vocal vibrations. We are shifting to a strictly telepathic communication model. If you cannot project your thoughts directly into my frontal lobe, do not attempt to contact me."

Jennifer laughed brightly, shifting her weight closer to him. "You cannot veto conversation, Alex. We have successfully broken your defenses. You are awake, your brain is engaged, and we are going to enjoy every single second of your misery."

"Misery is an active emotion," Alex corrected flawlessly, refusing to turn his head. "I am not miserable. I am simply enduring an administrative failure. My schedule dictated absolute silence, and your collective inability to appreciate a vacuum has violated that schedule."

Salma, now comfortably seated on the floor beside him, shook her head in sheer amusement. "You really hate being awake, don’t you?"

"Being awake forces me to process the bad decisions of other people," Alex stated. "Case in point, your director."

Before Salma could defend the sheer entertainment value of the afternoon’s events, the heavy double doors at the end of the hallway crashed open. The sound was violent, aggressive, and entirely lacked the polite hiss of an automated system.

Elias Thorne stood in the doorway. He did not look angry. He looked profoundly, existentially exhausted.

"Sir," Thorne began, his voice stripped of its usual military crispness. "I am formally requesting a leave of absence. My men are trained to handle corporate espionage, armed intruders, and paparazzi drones. We are not equipped to manage whatever demographic is currently targeting this estate."

Alex let out a low, resonant groan of pure spiritual agony. "Did you replace the reinforced steel barricades with a revolving door, Thorne? Why is my perimeter suddenly functioning as a public transit hub?"

"We maintained the perimeter, sir," Thorne replied stiffly. "But a second unauthorized female breached the loading dock by hiding in the blind spot of the Platinum Concierge catering truck. She is incredibly fast, highly agile, and she is currently screaming threats in Spanish."

Salma gasped, her eyes widening. "Wait. Shouting in Spanish? Oh no."

A blur of golden hair and sheer, unadulterated fury blew past Thorne.

Shakira stormed into the room. She was breathing heavily, her hands balled into tight fists, radiating an aura of frantic, high-decibel hostility. She stopped in the center of the room, her eyes darting around until they locked onto Salma, and then immediately snapped toward Alex.

"You monster!" Shakira yelled, her voice echoing sharply off the walls. She pointed a finger directly at Alex’s face. "I heard the rumors! The studio executives were screaming in a restaurant in Beverly Hills that the Tyrant Group took their lead actress hostage! Let her go right now, or I swear to God, I will dismantle this entire place!"

Alex did not flinch. He did not sit up. He simply let out a long, heavy exhale.

"Thorne," Alex murmured, his tone dripping with clinical judgment. "Please explain to me how a pop star successfully bypassed a team of ex-military contractors by walking behind a soup delivery van."

"She utilized evasive maneuvers, sir," Thorne muttered, looking deeply ashamed. "She is remarkably flexible."

"Flexibility is a massive waste of joint cartilage," Alex stated, finally looking at the furious singer. "Shakira. Your current decibel level is a biological hazard. Furthermore, threatening to dismantle a structure requires heavy machinery, hard hats, and municipal permits. You do not possess the permits. Please lower your voice and cease your aggressive posturing."

Shakira marched straight up to the edge of the seating area, glaring down at him with fiery intensity. "I am not posturing! I came to rescue my friend! Stand up and face me, you coward!"

"Standing up is a tactical error," Alex reasoned effortlessly, maintaining his absolute horizontal stasis. "If I stand up, I elevate my center of gravity, drastically increasing the risk of a fall. Falling induces orthopedic trauma. Furthermore, engaging in a physical altercation with you requires me to clench my fists. Clenching restricts blood flow to the fingers and causes localized cramping. I refuse to authorize the caloric expenditure required to fight you. I win by default."

Gillian burst into a husky, breathless laugh, leaning against Angelina. "He just told her he wins the fight because he’s too lazy to make a fist. This is unbelievable."

Shakira looked utterly derailed by the sheer, impenetrable density of his apathy. She blinked, her fighting stance faltering slightly as she looked down at Salma, who was casually eating a grape.

"Salma?" Shakira asked, utterly confused. "Are you... okay? Why are you just sitting there? Run for the door! I will hold him off!"

"Hold him off from what?" Salma laughed, waving a dismissive hand. "Shaki, he hasn’t moved a single muscle since I got here. He is literally glued to the floor. I am not a hostage."

"But the studio head!" Shakira protested, her hands flying to her head. "He was screaming that you were trapped! He said the Phantom ruined the movie!"

"He didn’t ruin the movie, he fixed my schedule," Salma explained eagerly, entirely converted to the cult of laziness. "The studio wanted to send me to a glacier in Iceland. A glacier! Alexander just taught me that freezing to death for art is a failure of thermal management. I sat here, ignored their phone calls, and they surrendered. We are shooting in Burbank now."

Shakira stared at Salma, her jaw slightly open. She looked around the room at the smiling, completely relaxed faces of Jennifer, Monica, Mariah, and Courteney. No one was panicking. No one was trapped. Everyone was simply watching her with intense amusement.

"You are boycotting a multi-million-dollar production..." Shakira whispered, trying to process the logic, "...by sitting on the floor?"

"It is the most efficient form of protest," Alex lectured smoothly, entirely unbothered by the fact that he was addressing a woman who had just threatened him. "A traditional protest requires marching. Marching causes blisters. Holding up a cardboard sign exhausts the deltoids. By simply refusing to exist in the same geographic location as the studio, Salma executed a flawless, zero-friction negotiation."

Shakira slumped slightly, the adrenaline suddenly draining from her system. She ran a hand through her hair, letting out a frustrated groan.

"I cancelled a recording session for this," Shakira complained bitterly. "I was supposed to be in the booth laying down vocals for Sony. When I heard you were kidnapped, I ran out of the building. My producers are going to fine me for breach of contract! I lost a whole day of studio time for a rescue mission that didn’t even happen!"

Alex stared at her with an expression of profound, clinical horror.

"You ran?" Alex whispered, treating the word like a deadly disease. "You intentionally engaged your cardiovascular system to achieve rapid forward momentum?"

"I was trying to save a life!" Shakira defended herself.

"You were engaging in a tragic misallocation of calories," Alex countered seamlessly. "Running is an absolute failure of transit planning. It proves that you did not allocate enough time to walk. Furthermore, you voluntarily abandoned a contractual obligation to perform heroic action. Heroism is an administrative nightmare. It always leads to paperwork."

Angelina collapsed against Mariah, wheezing with laughter. "He is lecturing you for trying to be a good friend. He thinks loyalty is a waste of energy."

"Loyalty can be expressed from a seated position, Angie," Alex corrected. "Shakira could have simply sent a telegram wishing Salma well. Now, because of her aggressive kinetics, she is facing a corporate fine."

"What am I supposed to do now?!" Shakira demanded, looking down at him. "Sony is going to threaten to pull my marketing budget if I don’t go back and apologize!"

"Never apologize," Alex stated instantly, his tone dropping into a register of icy, absolute authority. "Apologizing requires you to actively admit fault, which lowers your social leverage and invites further lectures. It is an emotional drain."

Salma grinned, her eyes sparkling with malicious joy as she leaned toward Shakira. "Listen to him, Shaki. His logic is absolutely terrifying, but it works."

"What is the alternative?" Shakira asked, crossing her arms defensively. "I can’t just ignore a major record label!"

"You absolutely can," Alex promised, his voice a flat, unyielding drone. "When your producers call you to scream about the breach of contract, you will not yell back. You will not offer an excuse. Excuses invite logistical debates. You will answer the phone, wait exactly four seconds in total silence, and then ask them what they want for dinner."

Shakira blinked. "What?"

"Ask them if they prefer sushi or tacos," Jennifer chimed in, giggling helplessly. "It completely short-circuits their brains."

"It invalidates their crisis," Alex explained, closing his eyes once more. "It demonstrates that their multi-million-dollar recording schedule is entirely secondary to your baseline nutritional needs. It is the ultimate display of psychological dominance."

Shakira looked at Salma, who nodded vigorously in confirmation. The fiery, passionate singer slowly let out a long breath. She looked at the floor, then at the billionaire who refused to sit up, and finally at the utterly relaxed women surrounding him.

"This is insane," Shakira muttered, slowly lowering herself to sit on the floor next to Salma. "I am taking career advice from a man who considers making a fist a biological tragedy."

"Efficiency is often mistaken for insanity by the uninitiated," Alex murmured. "Now, since the two of you have successfully combined your chaotic energies in my living room, the acoustic friction has reached catastrophic levels. Two Latinas in one room is a recipe for high-decibel disaster. I am officially initiating a mandatory quiet hour. No one is allowed to move."

"You cannot just order us to be quiet!" Shakira protested, though her voice lacked its earlier bite.

"I can, and I just did," Alex replied effortlessly. "If you speak, you are actively stealing my peace. Do not steal my peace. Sit there, enjoy your lack of studio time, and embrace the void."

Shakira opened her mouth to argue, but Salma quickly elbowed her in the ribs, placing a finger over her own lips and shaking her head with a wide, highly entertained smile.

Alex lay perfectly still, fully conscious, intensely annoyed, but entirely victorious. He had completely neutralized a physical assault, solved a record label contract dispute, and successfully trapped two of the most energetic women in the industry in a mandatory rest session, all without ever adjusting his posture.
