Chapter 706: SFDI: Chapter 706

Drake flew over the battlefield, where below, the fight was still raging.

Even Drake found the Five Elders’ immortality troublesome, and Natsu and the others were also in a tough fight.

However, it wasn’t easy for the Five Elders to end the battle; Fairy Tail’s strength completely surpassed their expectations.

Thus, the battle entered a stalemate. Apart from relying on their immortality to wear down everyone’s combat power, the Five Elders had no other way to break the deadlock.

Drake flew into the research layer and, following Vegapunk’s instructions, found his detached brain.

Although Drake had seen many grotesque things, this detached brain was still quite difficult to stomach.

Through the large crystal casing, the club-shaped object inside was clearly visible. If not for the white hair on top, who would have thought it was a brain?

Whether it was the Brain-Brain Fruit’s peculiarity or Vegapunk’s incredible technology, the giant head in the culture medium had its skull, skin, and hair separated along with the brain, unlike the brain matter floating in a jar with numerous tubes, as seen in sci-fi movies.

It had a rather bizarre feeling of child-friendly censorship mixed with absurdity.

Drake punched open the glass cover over the control panel and then pressed a button.

White steam spurted from the connection points of the tubes inserted into the instrument, and they all disconnected.

The mechanical structures attached also activated, disengaging the locking clasps and pushing out the crystal instrument.

Just as Drake was about to reach for the Vegapunk Record to store it in his ring, he suddenly heard a voice.

"What are you doing with my things!"

Drake turned around and looked at a giant girl pointing a flintlock pistol at him.

She was a girl about two stories tall, with wavy twin-tails and goggles on her head, and a scattering of freckles on her face.

Her attire was exceptionally revealing: a cropped, midriff-baring top and a jacket on her upper body, and only a pair of panties on her lower body.

Drake glanced at the "PUNK06" markings on her head accessory, chest, and right arm, and thus knew her identity.

York, one of Vegapunk’s clones, representing his "Greed."

Originally, this clone was supposed to be responsible for Vegapunk’s basic life functions such as eating and metabolism, but the concept of greed has always been prone to deviation.

After visiting Mary Geoise, York had personally witnessed the actions of the Celestial Dragons. However, everything that deviated from normal moral standards made York consider betraying Vegapunk.

In the original story, it was York who tipped off the Five Elders and imprisoned the CP agents investigating Egghead, leading the World Government to decisively resolve to eliminate Vegapunk.

The same happened this time. The drastic changes in the world situation made the World Government extremely sensitive, especially the loss of the Mother Flame, which made the Five Elders lose their patience. York sensed and exploited this, thus triggering the Buster Call.

Originally, everything went as York expected; the other Vegapunk clones were destroyed by Saturn, leaving only the main body. But unexpectedly, Drake suddenly broke in and rescued Vegapunk.

Seeing that all Five Elders had appeared yet were still being suppressed by Drake, York couldn’t help but curse these five old geezers internally for being useless.

But to become a Celestial Dragon who could do as he pleased, York could only proceed according to his original plan.

Originally, to avoid suspicion from the main body and other clones, York had been hiding in the lower levels of the research layer.

He only dared to come here to try and take the Vegapunk Record after Drake and the Five Elders had moved the battlefield further away.

However, he hadn’t expected that upon arriving, he would see Drake almost obtaining the item he desired.

With no other choice, York could only jump out.

"It’s all your fault, you bastard! You’ve ruined my bright future!" ℯℯ𝘭.

Drake examined York. Although he knew this was just a clone created by Vegapunk using his own technology, apart from the life aura, he truly felt no difference between her and a normal human.

Especially on a spiritual level, she was already a completely independent individual. Including the Seraphim later created by Vegapunk, judging by the performance of S-Snake, the former Empress, they were also beings with emotions and the ability to think.

One could only say that Vegapunk’s technology was terrifyingly advanced, capable of directly creating life.

After all, in other worlds, such power was held only by gods. Even in fantasy worlds, life alchemy was mostly considered taboo.

In this regard, the person Drake knew best was the Black Wizard himself, who created the demons of the Etherious Arts.

Just as Drake was marveling at Vegapunk’s technological prowess, York decisively pulled the trigger.

The flintlock pistol York held seemed ordinary and proportionate to her size. But how could there be anything "ordinary" on Egghead, especially something York used as a weapon?

This flintlock pistol had no superfluous special functions; its only remarkable feature was its power.

Coupled with a caliber comparable to a small cannon, a single projectile shot rapidly from the muzzle towards Drake.

Drake merely shook his head and reached out to catch it.

Crack!

Drake looked at the shattered projectile in his palm and couldn’t help but marvel at the gun’s power.

Drake had initially intended to catch the bullet intact, but he hadn’t expected the kinetic energy carried by the projectile to exceed his prediction, causing it to shatter in his palm.

York displayed the exaggerated shocked expression standard in the pirate world, which in turn made Drake speechless.

How could York, a clone of the world’s number one scientist, have such insufficient knowledge of the strong individuals on the seas? Did she really think a single gun could kill a monster on the seas?

However, York was, after all, "Greed." When greed takes over, it’s not far from blindness and foolishness.

Among Vegapunk’s clones, there was one named "Evil," yet it was "Greed" who ultimately betrayed him. It was truly worth pondering.

Drake thought this as he threw a ball of fire towards York, who was trying to turn and flee.

Ignoring York, who was reduced to a charred skeleton in an instant, Drake put away the Vegapunk Record and continued deeper into the research institute to find the Mother Flame.

With the principle of "if I can’t take it, I won’t leave it for the World Government," and with the intention of annoying the Five Elders, Drake went on a rampage, quickly locating the Mother Flame.

Sensing the familiar power, Drake followed Vegapunk’s instructions to extract the Mother Flame step by step.

It seemed Vegapunk had long been prepared for the World Government’s actions; the transfer of the Mother Flame was already part of his plan.

Below, on the battlefield, Saturn was spitting venom to repel Natsu when a loud explosion suddenly echoed.

He turned his head and took just one look before his eyes widened in fury. The research layer, which had been emitting black smoke, exploded violently, sending fragments of shattered buildings and machinery flying everywhere.

Even the island cloud was torn apart, falling along with the vast ruins.

Azure Bird flew over, and Saturn clearly saw Vegapunk sitting on its back.

Drake, landing on Azure Bird’s back from the sky, waved to everyone and said, "Our objective has been secured. It’s time to retreat!"

"Trying to escape!"

Nasjuro, in his centaur form, snorted coldly and swung his sword, about to attack.

Drake’s eyes narrowed, and he waved his hand, unleashing a stream of fire.

The flame line extended, forming a wall of fire that separated the Five Elders from Natsu and the others.

Mars attempted to fly over using its Itsumade abilities, but was met by Sasuke’s Yasakani Magatama, which exploded and sent it flying backward.

They could only watch as Azure Bird soared through the air, carrying everyone away.

The Five Elders regrouped, exchanging glances. The lingering flames couldn’t even illuminate the gloom on their faces.
