Chapter 705: SFDI: Chapter 705

The Five Elders’ objective was to eliminate Vegapunk and all his forbidden research. Fairy Tail’s appearance was an absolute accident.

However, the Five Elders understood one thing: Vegapunk must never fall into the hands of these uninvited guests, Fairy Tail.

But Drake alone was overpowering all five of them. If not for their immortality, their front line would have collapsed long ago.

The plan to eliminate Vegapunk had completely failed. They had initially hoped that Kizaru and Green Bull’s reinforcements would turn the tide of the battle, but they hadn’t expected Fairy Tail’s group to arrive on the battlefield instead.

Though they cursed the Marines’ incompetence countless times in their minds, the situation had become extremely dire.

They couldn’t even stop Drake from escaping now!

Drake had witnessed the growth of Natsu and the others firsthand, so he had no worries about leaving the Five Elders to them.

After freeing himself, Drake directly followed the telepathic connection with Azure Bird.

Soon, Drake found Azure Bird and Vegapunk on a cliff on one side of Egghead.

However, Azure Bird looked terrified, hovering outside the cliff. If Drake hadn’t ordered it to protect Vegapunk, it probably would have flown away immediately.

Meanwhile, Vegapunk was crouched on the cliff, his eyes gleaming, looking as if he were about to pounce on Azure Bird at any moment.

Sensing Drake’s approach, Azure Bird quickly flew over and reverted to its talisman form, fearing that if it were any slower, it would be pestered by that strange old man again.

Vegapunk also saw Drake and strode towards him with his long legs, saying, "That bird-like lifeform must be artificial, right? It’s truly miraculous. What method could possibly create such a creature? May I study it further?"

The aura of a mad scientist made Drake instinctively take a step back, then he said, "Dr. Vegapunk, please calm down!"

Vegapunk suppressed his overwhelming curiosity and chuckled sheepishly, "My apologies, I lost my composure. But I truly didn’t expect you to come and save me!"

Drake said, "It’s thanks to Kuma’s help. Otherwise, we might not have made it in time."

Vegapunk exclaimed emotionally, "So you know Kuma! How is he doing lately?"

To most people on the seas, Kuma was a notorious tyrant, a ferocious pirate. However, Vegapunk, unlike most, knew Kuma to be a gentle and reliable person.

Kuma had made a deal with the World Government: they would provide funds for Bonnie’s treatment for her scaled skin disease, and in return, Kuma would voluntarily become Vegapunk’s experimental subject.

The final step of the experiment involved erasing all of Kuma’s consciousness.

Vegapunk, of course, couldn’t bear to do it, but it was a command from the World Government and Kuma’s own wish, so he was helpless.

Therefore, when he heard of Kuma’s disappearance, Vegapunk was overjoyed and secretly deleted some key experimental records related to Kuma to prevent the World Government from tracking or harming him.

Drake nodded and said, "Don’t worry, Kuma is doing well now. You don’t need to worry about him!"

Vegapunk let out a long sigh of relief, feeling much lighter.

Looking at Drake again, Vegapunk said, "Then let’s formally introduce ourselves! I am Vegapunk, a scientist."

Drake shook Vegapunk’s outstretched hand and said, "Drake, a Mage of Fairy Tail!"

Vegapunk laughed heartily, "I’ve heard your names many times. But what exactly is a Mage? It’s not some special Devil Fruit ability, is it?

Based on my research, such powers shouldn’t exist in this world. Therefore, you must be from a world unknown to me, right?"

Drake was momentarily stunned by Vegapunk’s rapid-fire questions as his curiosity piqued.

What is the most important quality of a scientist? Is it an intelligent mind?

No... it’s the entire thought process of questioning, hypothesizing, bold conjecture, and disdain for the mundane exploration.

And Vegapunk, the world’s number one scientist, didn’t just rely on his "Brain-Brain Fruit" ability; he possessed this kind of thinking as well, and at a world-class level.

Despite never having met Drake before, he had deduced Drake’s origin... one couldn’t underestimate these scientists.

Drake had no intention of hiding anything and briefly explained his origins to Vegapunk.

Vegapunk’s eyes lit up like light bulbs, and Drake could directly feel the glow of curiosity radiating from him.

However, Vegapunk also knew the current situation and quickly calmed down, saying, "So, why have you come to find me?"

Drake extended his palm, and a ball of flame appeared.

"This is what I need your help with! In terms you can understand, my ability involves strengthening myself and manipulating fire elements using an energy flowing within my body called magic, and fire can also enhance my power. However, ordinary flames can only supplement or temporarily enhance my magic. But the Mother Flame you created is different; it has catalyzed the evolution of my magic."

As the inventor, Vegapunk understood the Mother Flame better than anyone and naturally detected traces of the Mother Flame in the flames on Drake’s hand.

Vegapunk leaned closer to the flames in Drake’s hand and said, "Magic is truly a wondrous power. Such terrifying power as the Mother Flame can even be tamed!

So, what you want me to do is to understand the principle by which the Mother Flame enhances your power and perfect it into a more reliable method of evolution.

Unfortunately, I have no understanding of magic, so further research is needed to determine how the Mother Flame catalyzes magic evolution."

Drake closed his fingers, retracting the flames, and said, "So, what do I need to do?"

Vegapunk said seriously, "First, I need the Vegapunk Record, which is my detached brain. It stores all my knowledge and research data. Secondly, the Mother Flame is also essential. The successful creation of the Mother Flame involves many uncertain factors. If I were to try again, I’m not sure if I could replicate it."

Drake nodded and said, "Don’t worry, I will bring you what you need."

Seeing Drake turn to act, Vegapunk said, "Don’t you want to ask why I’m helping you?"

Drake turned and smiled, saying, "There’s no need. In this situation, you must have something to do, right!"

Vegapunk paused for a moment, then also smiled.

The World Government’s stance was crystal clear; returning to the previous state was absolutely impossible.

But for Vegapunk, giving up on his dreams was never an option.

Whether it was researching history, a taboo subject for the World Government, or completing the eternal energy project, it was the same.

Therefore, this was not just Vegapunk helping Drake, but also Drake helping Vegapunk. It was precisely this win-win situation that made further negotiations unnecessary.

Once you embrace the idea of letting go, you feel the world expand.

This book has few readers, so it has never made much money. After a month of double updates, I’ve faced reality and am currently preparing to start a new book.

However, this book will not be abandoned, as it is my first. I will continue to update it, but I will finish it as soon as possible. See you in the new book.
