Six years later

Seoha’s POV

My heart pitter-patters as I adjust Hanuel’s clothes for the day.

"Don’t get into fights, hmm?"

"Yes, mom" he says. He’s trying his best to stay still for me, and at the same time, he’s stealing glances at his dad and twin brother. Taesan is playing roughly with Bada and my sweet boy is giggling happily.

They’re two peas in a pod.

"Sannah, please, his clothes are going to get rumpled before school" I complain and he puts Bada down from his shoulder.

"No more spins, big ocean" he says and Hanuel giggles even though he’s not the one being spun around. I run a hairbrush through his hair again, trying to make sure my pup looks perfect for school.

Anyone looking at me would think I’m only trying to get him ready for his first day of school, but in reality, I’m trying to coddle my baby as much as I can before I let him go.

"Mom, do my hair too" Bada runs over to me and I do the same thing to him. I brush his hair, press my forehead to his, and smile at him fondly.

The twins are growing so well.

They have Taesan’s looks. They have his rich dark hair, his foxy eyes, and his smile. The boys are completely identical except that Hanuel has my light brown eye color.

Both boys love to play, both boys are always full of energy, and both boys would do anything to stress their beloved older sister out.

I haven’t seen my Sooinie yet. It’s her first day of middle school and it hurts in a good way. I can’t believe six good years have gone by this quickly.

Six years went by in a blur of smiles, love, important arguments, and more important bonding.

"Mom, do I look okay?" Sooin asks from the top of the stairs and I look up. She’s on a video call with Jisu. She’s putting on her green backpack and her properly ironed school uniform. Her long brown hair is held back in a ponytail and her wispy bangs brush her brows.

"Oh...Innah, you’re so cute" I say and she sighs.

"I was worried" she confesses, coming down the stairs slowly.

"I said you look good, Sooinah" Jisu says from the phone and Sooin exchanges goodbyes with her before ending the call.

My daughter walks with the grace of a twelve-year-old ballerina. I refuse to acknowledge that she’s no longer the kid who called me ’daddy’ in that hotel lobby seven years ago.

"Send me the name of everyone who looks at you funny, princess. Do you understand?" Taesan asks with seriousness and Sooin laughs softly, tugging on the straps of her backpack and shaking her head.

"Dad, I have to make friends. You can’t scare everyone away" she says.

"I’m not scaring anyone" Taesan says with a scowl. He’s sitting on the couch stiffly. His muscles are tense and he only relaxes with a tender hug from Sooin.

She still has him wrapped around her fingers.

"Boys, are you ready for school?" Sooin asks her brothers and they start to bounce like over energized puppies. "Yes! Yes! School!" they yell and Sooin grins proudly at them.

"I’ll make sure you never fail, okay?" she tells them.

"Han forgot one plus one again, noona" Bada tattles and Hanuel, always the emotional defender, cries out loudly.

"I didn’t! One plus one is two. Mom tell him!" he turns to me, fist pressed against his eye and mouth wide open in a sob.

"Bada, stop upsetting your brother" I say, opening my arms to hug Hanuel and kiss him on the top of his head.

"I’m not upsetting him!" Bada says, laughing hysterically and running around the living room while kicking the air. Yes...that one is a full-blooded Kang...

"Uncle Minnie is here with Junny" Sooin says and the door flies open on cue.

Oh Minjae is standing there with his hands on his hips, six-years-old Seojun by his side and his daughter, Seoyeon, in a baby carrier.

My best friend is always a sight to behold. He has been proving himself to be the perfect mafia boss’s husband, the best mother to his kids, and the best friend in the world.

"Don’t panic. Uncle Minnie is here to save the day. Everyone, look who came with me today" he gestures to the baby in the carrier.

"Seoyeon!" my pups yell the baby’s name.

"That’s my little sister" Seojun, or Junny, says with excitement. He’s overflowing with pride about his little sister and he absolutely loves her.

"Junny, Junny! You and me and Hanuel are going to be in the same class" Bada announces and the three boys start to chatter with each other.

"I thought they’d cry about a first day in school" Minjae says as he comes in.

"Not everyone is a cry baby like you" Taesan says and Minjae gives him an inappropriate sign. He gives my husband the middle finger and Taesan chokes on his coffee.

"This wild creature" he sputters, turning his head to the side to cough.

Ah yes...after six years, they’re still cat and mouse. It’s funny and exhausting at the same time.

"How is our Seoyeon doing today?" I ask after the young pup and Minjae grins at her.

"She’s perfect. She’s really my daughter, she likes all the attention. This little baby is magical, she can already respond to her name" Minjae gushes and I move closer to look at her.

"Seoyeon-ah, hello" I say in baby voice and she coos back at me.

"Mom, she’s so cute! I want a baby sister too" Sooin says, holding my arm and looking up at me with hope in her eyes.

"No...no way. No babies for Seoha" Taesan says and Sooin pouts.

"Come on, come on, time to go. I have business to do after this. Junho is waiting outside by the way, thanks for asking, Kang Taesan" Minjae claps and we all walk out of the house.

I ride in a car with my boys, my daughter, and husband. Minjae rides in another car with Junny, Seoyeon, and Junho.

Junho has been handling mafia business. He has been climbing up the ranks quickly, and even though he’s subjected to the Gods, he still considers my husband to be his true leader. Taesan never mentions it, but I know Junho’s actions means a lot to him.

"Are you ready?" Taesan asks when we arrive at the younger kids’ school.

"No" I whisper my response with a wobbly voice.

I don’t think I’ll ever be ready.

"It’s okay. Our boys are strong, healthy, and ready" my husband wraps an arm around my shoulder, pulls me close, and kisses the side of my head. His love for me hasn’t reduced one bit and I love him even more for that.

"Mom, Dad, bye!" Bada waves and runs into the school first.

"I love you, mom and dad!" Hanuel says and follows his brother.

"Mom, dad, see you later" Junny says happily too.

They look so happy to start a new Chapter of their life. It’s small and exciting to them, but it’s big and important to me.

"Don’t cry, baby. Now that they’re in school, it means we’ll have the house to ourselves much longer" Taesan says as he puts his hands on my hips, and I jump away from him when I remember where we are.

"Sannah! Don’t flirt, Sooin is waiting in the car" I say shyly and he takes his hand off my hips, holding them up in surrender.

"I was going to say we can sleep longer at noon" he mumbles and I shake my head at him. He’s still as obsessed with me as he has always been.

"Dad, Mom, let’s go please" Sooin calls softly and Taesan gives me another kiss before taking me back to the car.

On our way, I see Junho hugging Minjae from the corner of my eyes. The beta is whispering soft words in my best friend’s ear and it warms my heart. Those two...they’re so in love with each other too.
