Chapter 98: Chapter 98: Going Down The Mountain

The next day, Sui Sui woke up early and quickly freshened up. Since he had finished refining all the pills he currently had materials for, he decided it was time to go down the mountain and restock his resources.

There were quite a few things he needed to buy, including herb seeds, some basic farming tools, and more food for MuMu. If possible, he also wanted to sell some of his pills and earn a few extra Spirit Coins or Spirit Crystals.

Before leaving, Sui Sui cast the disguise spell he had learned from Yizhou. It was only a low-level spell, but it should be enough for now. He still didn’t have the ability to alter his facial features, so the spell could only change his long white hair and amber-gold eyes to an ordinary black.

This was mainly to keep him from attracting too much attention. After all, his unusual coloring was far too eye-catching.

After changing his clothes, Sui Sui quickly made his way to the area where disciples could board the flying beast vehicles that traveled down the mountain. Although disciples were expected to rely on their own cultivation to ascend the mountain, they were allowed to use the flying beast vehicles when descending, as there were no particularly strict rules for leaving the sect.

Fortunately, Sui Sui arrived just in time to board one of the flying beast vehicles. Several other disciples were already inside, apparently heading down the mountain as well.

After the vehicle took off, it did not take long for the vehicle to reach the foot of the mountain.

Once everyone had disembarked, the flying beast immediately turned around and flew back toward the sect, most likely to wait for the next group of disciples heading down the mountain.

The disciples who went down the mountain soon went their separate ways, scattering in different directions. Some headed east, while others made their way west, each heading toward their own destination.

Sui Sui, however, was heading toward the nearby Linfeng City.

It was the closest city to the Wenjian Sect and also the same city he had visited before when he went to meet Yizhou. Since he was already familiar with the route, Sui Sui had no trouble finding his way there.

Before entering the city, Sui Sui paid the city entrance fee, which cost 10 spirit coins.

At the moment, Sui Sui still had a total of 150 Spirit Coins and 100 Spirit Crystals.

In the cultivation world, Spirit Coins and Spirit Crystals were the most commonly used forms of currency. Spirit Coins were mainly used for everyday purchases, while Spirit Crystals were far more valuable and were commonly used for more expensive goods and transactions.

The exchange rate was straightforward: one Spirit Crystal was worth one hundred Spirit Coins.

For ordinary mortals, one hundred Spirit Coins or Spirit Stone was already a considerable amount. A normal family could use that much money to cover their basic food expenses for roughly three months.

For cultivators, however, that amount was hardly impressive.

Cultivators had to spend money on everything from medicinal herbs and pills to cultivation resources, weapons, talismans, and other necessities. Many of those items were far more expensive than anything an ordinary mortal would ever need, so even a hundred Spirit Coins could disappear surprisingly quickly.

After asking around, Sui Sui quickly made his way toward the northern part of Linfeng City, which was known as the city’s main shopping district.

The moment he entered the area, he was greeted by a completely different atmosphere.

The streets were packed with people, far more crowded than the quieter parts of the city he had passed through earlier. Shops lined both sides of the road, while countless stalls had been set up along the streets, their owners loudly advertising everything they had to offer.

There were stalls selling medicinal pills, spiritual herbs, seeds, magical artifacts, talismans, cultivation techniques, weapons, and all kinds of strange cultivation-related items. Some even sold miscellaneous treasures whose uses Sui Sui could not immediately figure out.

It was nowhere near as massive as Qingqiong City, the largest trading center in the entire Human Realm, but the lively atmosphere here was not inferior in the slightest. The streets were filled with the shouts of vendors and the constant chatter of cultivators browsing the various stalls.

"Fellow Cultivator, come take a look at our pills! We have everything from healing pills to cultivation aids!"

"Come take a look at our artifacts! High-quality spiritual artifacts at reasonable prices!"

"Cultivation techniques for sale! Suitable for cultivators of all levels!"

"Everyone, come and take a look! The He Huan Sect has just released the newest edition of their ranking of the top one hundred most beautiful women and most handsome men under one hundred years old! There are several major changes to the rankings this time!"

The last shout immediately attracted a small crowd, with several cultivators turning their heads in curiosity.

Sui Sui glanced over but quickly lost interest.

Instead, his attention remained focused on the shops selling medicinal herbs, seeds, and pills.

He carefully observed the prices of each item, comparing the quality and quantity whenever possible. He needed to know the market prices before selling his own pills. If he priced them too cheaply, he would lose out on his hard work. But if he asked for too much, no one would be willing to buy them.

More importantly, he didn’t want to become the kind of fool who got overcharged simply because he didn’t understand the market, specially since he was also planning to buy a large number of cultivation materials himself, understanding the prices would help him avoid being cheated.

Seeing the prices made Sui Sui sweat a little.

Even the most basic Low-Level herbs were surprisingly expensive, with each stalk costing around twenty Spirit Coins. For someone with only roughly 1,150 Spirit Coins on hand, that was a considerable expense. If he spent all his money on herbs, he could only afford around fifty stalks, which was nowhere near enough for his needs.

Thankfully, seeds were much cheaper. A single pack containing fifty seeds only cost around five Spirit Coins.

The problem was that he had no idea how long those seeds would take to mature. They might sprout in a few weeks, or they might take several months before they were ready to harvest. Sui Sui wanted to continue practicing alchemy soon, which meant he still needed a steady supply of herbs in the meantime.

For a moment, Sui Sui couldn’t help regretting that he hadn’t saved more of the Spirit Stones Yizhou had given him before.

If he had known he would need so many cultivation resources now, he would have definitely kept a few thousand more.

Unfortunately, he had already spent most of them.

He also really didn’t want to ask the Bai Family for more money.

Although the Bai Family was one of the wealthiest families in the Human Realm, they were surprisingly strict when it came to how much money they gave their children. The family deliberately practiced frugality so that their younger generation would not grow up spoiled or overly dependent on their family’s wealth.

Bai Suichen, as the heir, only received two hundred Spirit Stones a month. That might sound like a lot to ordinary people, but in the cultivation world, it was hardly excessive. The Bai Family wanted him to experience the hardships of the outside world and learn how to manage resources properly before eventually taking over the family.

As for Bai Sui Sui, being the youngest and most doted-on child, he was treated with considerably more leniency. He received three hundred and fifty Spirit stones every month, showing a clear favoritism, if Bai Suichen was a little close minded, he would have become angered to death, good thing he dotes on his own brother a lot as well.

Anyway, back then that had originally been more than enough.

The original Bai Sui Sui had little interest in cultivation and rarely needed to spend money on anything other than food, snacks, and the occasional little trinket. Three hundred and fifty Spirit stones were more than enough to support that lifestyle.

But the current Sui Sui was different.

Now that he had started cultivating and learning alchemy, his expenses had increased dramatically. Herbs, seeds, pills, cultivation resources—everything seemed to cost money.

Suddenly, that monthly allowance didn’t seem like much at all.

Sui Sui knew that if he asked the Bai Family for more, they would probably agree without hesitation. They doted on him, after all, and had already given him far more than just spending money. He had protective robes, life-saving artifacts, and various other items that they had prepared for him.

But that was precisely why he felt even more reluctant to ask.

He was already occupying their son’s body. The thought of taking advantage of their kindness made him feel guilty.

After thinking about it, Sui Sui made a decision.

He should sell his own pills first.

Only after earning some Spirit Coins or Spirit Crystals would he start buying the things he needed, that way, at least he wouldn’t have to worry about running out of money halfway through his shopping.
