Chapter 137: Chapter 137: Daylight Robbery (Part 2)

Sui Sui then continued running, desperately trying to put as much distance between himself and his pursuers as possible. However, no matter how many talismans he threw behind him, he couldn’t keep the men at bay forever.

One by one, the talismans in his hands ran out, leaving him with fewer and fewer ways to stall them. By the time he realized he had used the last of them, the men had already caught up.

A sharp crack suddenly rang through the air.

Before Sui Sui could react, the familiar metal chain whip came lashing toward him, striking him hard across the back.

Agonizing pain exploded through his body, and he nearly vomited blood from the force of the blow. His legs buckled, but before he could regain his balance, someone seized him by the shoulder and violently threw him to the ground.

The impact knocked the breath out of him. He barely had time to struggle before two men rushed forward and pinned him down, one restraining his arms while the other pressed him firmly against the ground.

"Let go of me!" Sui Sui struggled, but the two men holding him down were far stronger than he was. Every movement sent fresh waves of pain through his injured back, and the more he struggled, the tighter their grip became. After a few futile attempts, he finally had to admit that he couldn’t break free by force.

His talismans were gone, he was injured, and MuMu had already left to find Master Shan Li. For now, he had no one to rely on and no way to escape on his own. All he could do was hold on until help arrived.

With that in mind, Sui Sui gradually stopped struggling. He gritted his teeth, endured the throbbing pain in his back, and lifted his head to look at the group surrounding him. Since fighting was no longer an option, he might as well try talking his way out of the situation. At the very least, he could use the conversation to buy himself some time.

Forcing a slightly awkward smile onto his face, he addressed the man who appeared to be their leader. "Oh, this big brother, I didn’t see you there. Is there something you need from me? Why don’t we talk about this calmly first?"

One of the men crouched down in front of Sui Sui, looking him over with an exaggerated expression of amusement. Seeing that Sui Sui had finally stopped struggling and was now trying to reason with them, he couldn’t help bursting into laughter.

"Tsk, tsk, tsk! You were running so fast that this big brother thought you were being chased by a monster! Ahahaha!"

The other men immediately joined in, laughing as though Sui Sui’s desperate attempt to escape had been nothing more than an entertaining performance. One of them even reached out and patted Sui Sui’s cheek mockingly, clearly enjoying the fact that their prey could no longer run away.

The leader, meanwhile, leisurely spun the dagger in his hand. He was a rough-looking man with a rugged face and a crooked, roguish grin. A prominent scar stretched across his jaw, making his already intimidating appearance even more menacing. His unkempt appearance and the sharp, calculating look in his eyes made it clear that he was no good man. As his gaze wandered over Sui Sui, eventually settling on his face, a greedy smile slowly spread across his features.

"Yo, you don’t look half bad. I bet you’ve got plenty of money in those pockets, too, right?" He crouched down until they were nearly at eye level, then tapped the flat of his dagger against Sui Sui’s cheek. "How about handing it all over to us? Consider it a little gesture of respect toward your big brothers!"

The moment he finished speaking, the surrounding men burst into another round of laughter.

Sui Sui’s mouth twitched.

So this was a daylight robbery?

He had been wondering why these people had chased him so relentlessly, even going so far as to use a chain whip against him. Now that he had heard their demands, he finally understood. They were nothing more than a group of bandits who had taken a fancy to his belongings and decided to rob him in broad daylight, they probably say him in Linfeng City and saw that he was an easy target.

What terrible luck.

If they had only wanted his money, Sui Sui would have been perfectly willing to hand it over. As reluctant as he might be to part with his hard-earned Spirit Coins, money could always be earned again. His life, on the other hand, was far more important.

Unfortunately, the conversation took an unexpected turn.

One of the men suddenly let out a sharp whistle, his gaze lingering on Sui Sui’s face with an undisguised leer.

"Hold on, Boss. Why bother with just his money?" he said, nudging the man beside him with his elbow. "Look at that face! I bet he’d fetch a pretty high price if we sold him to one of those people in the black market. Wouldn’t that make us a lot more money?"

The leader paused, then looked Sui Sui over again. His eyes brightened as he considered the suggestion, and the grin on his face grew even wider.

"That’s a good point!" He threw his head back and laughed. "Those people don’t care whether it’s a man or a woman, as long as they’re pretty enough! Hahaha! We might make even more selling him than we would robbing him!"

The others immediately began chiming in, their laughter growing louder as they discussed how much Sui Sui might be worth. Their gazes crawled over him, making it painfully clear that they had already begun treating him like a commodity rather than a person.

Hearing their words, Sui Sui knew that even if he emptied all his belongings they probably still wouldn’t let him go, so he was already wondering what he could do.

It wasn’t as though he had no options left. If MuMu took too long to return with help, then, at worst, he could simply retreat into his private dimension. So what if his secret was exposed? Staying alive was far more important.

He was just beginning to consider how much longer he could afford to wait when the men’s laughter was suddenly interrupted by a cold voice from behind them.

"Oh? What did you say you were going to do to my person?"

The voice was neither particularly loud nor hurried, yet its icy tone carried a faint trace of displeasure, and beneath those few seemingly casual words lay a chilling threat that made the atmosphere around them feel as though it had frozen over.

For some reason, Sui Sui’s heart skipped a beat.

That voice...

He knew it.

It was a voice he hadn’t heard in quite some time, yet one he could recognize immediately, no matter where he heard it.

The men who had been laughing moments earlier now fell silent. They instinctively turned toward the source of the voice, their expressions shifting from amusement to irritation at being interrupted. But before any of them could speak, the oppressive aura emanating from the newcomer made their expressions stiffen.

Sui Sui slowly raised his head, his eyes widening as a familiar figure came into view.

For a moment, he almost forgot about the pain in his back.

He hadn’t expected to see this person here.
