Chapter 99: Chapter 99: My Man’s Ex-Wife Is a Problem
~Third- POV~
"Then do what I asked you to do," Frederick demanded, his tone sharp and unwavering.
"Never!" she screamed, shaking her head. "I will never apologize to a nobody like him!"
"Then leave my house now!" Frederick shouted, his voice ringing through the quiet courtyard.
Eva fell completely silent. She stared at him in sheer disbelief, her chest heaving as tears spilled over her cheeks. For a long moment, she didn’t move or say a single word. Then, taking a slow step forward, she closed the remaining distance between them, looking straight into Frederick’s eyes.
"You always think I’m the problem," Eva said, her voice dropping into a breathless, quiet tremble. "But do you ever actually sit down and ask yourself why I never came back to you? Why I left you in the first place?"
At those words, Frederick’s grip on Reynold’s hand subtly loosened.
Reynold felt the sudden shift instantly. He looked over at Frederick, watching the dark, intense shock that rippled across his face as he stared at his ex-wife.
"What the hell is that supposed to mean?" Frederick demanded, his voice strained.
Eva let out a bitter, sorrowful laugh, wiping a tear from her cheek. "I don’t want you anymore, Frederick. If you don’t want me, fine. I’ll stay away because I can’t keep forcing myself on a man who looks at me with so much hatred. From now on, I won’t come looking for you again. I promise I’ll never show up in front of you again. But please..." Her voice trembled. "Can you at least restore what you’ve taken from me? Please, don’t take away the opportunities that mean so much to me. My career is important to me, Frederick. It’s what makes me happy."
Fresh tears streamed down her face. Frederick stared at her, his expression unreadable, before speaking coldly. "Then apologize to him."
Eva locked eyes with Frederick for a long moment, her gaze shifting back and forth between Frederick and Reynold. A heavy silence hung over the driveway until she finally let out a defeated sigh.
"Fine," she whispered. "I will apologize." She looked up at Frederick with raw desperation. "How do you want me to do it? Should I slap myself? Should I get down on my knees?"
"Just be sincere and apologize," Frederick replied, his tone firm.
Reynold stood beside Frederick, watching Eva in silence. Whatever Frederick had taken away from her must have been very important to her for her to be this desperate. Although he knew she was wrong to try to ruin his reputation, seeing the proud, glamorous woman stripped of her arrogance felt strange and surreal. Somehow, he couldn’t help feeling sorry for her.
Eva turned around fully to face Reynold. Her shoulders slumped, and the sharp edge in her voice melted into genuine exhaustion.
"I’m sorry," Eva said softly, meeting Reynold’s eyes with unexpected humility. "I’m truly sorry for everything I’ve done to you. I was wrong, and I had no right to treat you the way I did. I was wrong to post that video and try to ruin your reputation. Please forgive me."
Reynold looked at Eva, unsure of how to respond. After a moment, he turned to Frederick.
Frederick met his gaze. "It’s your choice whether to forgive her or not. Take your time. If you don’t want to forgive her today, she can come back another day and apologize again."
"It’s fine," Reynold said quickly. He turned to Eva. "I forgive you. I just hope you can help clear my name. I never did any of the things that video made it look like I did. The news has already made me look terrible, and I want people to know the truth."
Eva nodded immediately. "I will. I promise I’ll do everything I can to clear your name. Please, forgive me."
Reynold looked at her for a moment before nodding. "I forgive you."
Eva swallowed hard and nodded. "Thank you." She turned to Frederick, her eyes filled with tears. "He has forgiven me. Please, I beg you, give me back my career."
"I will once you do what he asked you to do," Frederick replied coldly.
"Alright. I’ll do it as soon as possible." Eva turned on her heel, preparing to walk toward her car. "Goodbye, Frederick."
As she took her first step, Frederick released Reynold’s hand and stepped forward. Reynold looked at him in surprise, his fingers curling slightly at the sudden loss of contact. Before he could ask what was wrong, Frederick closed the distance between himself and Eva and grabbed her by the wrist, stopping her in her tracks.
"Wait! What did you mean earlier?" Frederick demanded, his dark eyes searching her face frantically. "Answer me!" ℴℴ𝘮
Eva winced, glancing down at his hand wrapped around her wrist. "Let go of my wrist."
Frederick immediately released her, pulling his hand back, but his posture remained rigid.
Eva turned away, hurt and humiliation flickering in her eyes as she recalled how Frederick had treated her in front of Reynold that night. Just as she prepared to leave again, Frederick’s voice thundered across the dark estate.
"I’m still talking to you, Eva! Answer me!"
Eva whirled around, her composure finally breaking as she glared at Frederick, her voice trembling with hurt and anger.
"Every single time, you lay the blame entirely on me for ruining us, Frederick!" she shouted. "You always tell everyone that I abandoned my daughter and never looked back! You act as if you were the perfect, devoted husband, and I was just the monster who didn’t care!"
Her breath caught as she glared at Frederick, her voice trembling with hurt and frustration. Both Frederick and Reynold stood frozen, listening to her.
"I know that to you, I am the most terrible person in this world because you convinced yourself I never loved you or cared about our family," Eva cried out, her chest heaving. "But you know that’s a lie! You know what I felt for you! Even when I acted cold, you were the only man I ever gave my heart to. You were the only man I was sleeping with, until that one horrific day!"
She wiped her face, struggling to keep her voice steady despite the pain in her words. "You accused me of betraying you, and I didn’t deny it. Why would I bother denying it when you had already decided in your mind that I was heartless? You had already convinced yourself that I never loved you!"
Frederick stood frozen, the color draining from his face as Eva’s words shattered the silence of the night.
Reynold glanced between them, feeling the tension surrounding their unresolved past. Realizing he had stayed long enough, he quietly stepped closer to Frederick.
"I’ll... go inside first," Reynold murmured.
Frederick briefly tore his dark gaze away from Eva and looked down at Reynold. "Alright. I’ll join you soon."
Reynold turned and walked up the front steps. One of the estate guards politely opened the grand front doors for him. As he stepped inside, the doors clicked shut behind him, cutting off the chill of the night but doing nothing to quiet the storm in his mind.
Should I be worried right now? Reynold asked himself, his heart pounding. It looks like Eva is already finding her way back into Frederick’s heart. I can’t even think straight after everything that just happened.
He needed a cold drink. Immediately. Maybe it would help calm his racing thoughts.
As he crossed the expansive foyer, one of Frederick’s housemaids bowed respectfully.
"Welcome back, sir."
Reynold gave her a stiff, distracted nod, barely registering her greeting as he headed for the sweeping staircase.
Halfway up, regret hit him.
Why did I walk away?! I should have stayed and listened until the very end!
He pressed his lips together, his mind already conjuring up the worst possibilities.
But... what if this turns into one of those dramatic movies where the exes finally talk things out and end up getting back together right in front of the main character?
His stomach twisted at the thought.
What if they kiss?!
Reynold gasped, clutching the banister. "No, no, no! Would Frederick actually go back to her? He’s still so soft when it comes to Eva! They clearly still love each other!"
Panicking, he hurried down the long hallway toward Frederick’s master bedroom. He pushed the door open, stepped inside, and threw himself face-first onto the massive king-sized bed.
"What is going to happen now, Reynold?" he muttered dramatically into the duvet. "Are you going to be thrown out of this bedroom tonight? Are they going to sleep together? Cuddle? Kiss? Have sex?! Or are they going to tell you to sleep on the couch while you watch them hold each other?!"
He rolled onto his back and stared mournfully at the ceiling.
"And here you were, thinking you were so lucky. Turns out you’re not."
Unwilling to suffer through his imaginary heartbreak without proper preparation, Reynold sat up and marched over to the suite’s private minibar. He grabbed a crystal glass and a bottle of chilled wine, poured himself a generous drink, and settled on the floor beside the bed.
Then he pulled out his phone and searched for the saddest heartbreak playlist he could find. After connecting his phone to the bedroom’s sound system, he turned up the volume and pressed play.
A melancholy ballad blasted through the room, loud enough to be heard from the hallway.
Reynold took a long, dramatic sip of wine and began swaying to the sad music, completely immersing himself in his own movie-style heartbreak.
All he could do now was wait for Frederick to return and possibly announce that he had officially been demoted from his bedmate to a couch occupant.
Meanwhile, outside in the dark driveway...
