Chapter 1342: Chapter 549: Submission of the Supreme Evil Spirit Sword! First Battle Against the Holy Spirit!
Qian Yi raised the sword, looking for all the world like a rebel leader ready to rise up and overthrow the heavens. However, Su Ping quickly gave the little thing a slap, waking it up from its sweet dream of becoming the Death Sovereign. Qian Yi shrank its neck and obediently followed closely behind Su Ping, still carrying the Sword of Death. Only then did Su Ping turn his attention to the others.
He ignored the shocked and suspicious Lord Bai, focusing instead on a currently inconspicuous "little guy." Among the members of the Heavenly Tomb Army, Zhu Linxin was indeed the most unremarkable. In fact, he was the weakest. This was evident from the fact that upon entering the Soul Furnace, Zhu Linxin was affected the most by the Sword of Death. His soul had almost completely transformed into a Sword Soul.
Although Su Ping had immediately ordered Charles to send everyone in the Heavenly Tomb Army out of the Soul Furnace as soon as they met, he couldn’t say for sure what kind of consequences and fate these members would face. As he took in the scene before him, his heart sank. Even though so much time had passed since they left the Soul Furnace, he could see that neither his gaze, nor their surroundings, nor Qian Yi’s earth-shattering Evolution, nor Bai Hu’s true form, had managed to snap Zhu Linxin and several others back to reality.
No, it wasn’t quite accurate to say they hadn’t snapped back to reality. Instead, their gazes were firmly fixated on one single thing—Qian Yi’s pitch-black Sword of Death. Aside from that, most of them just sat there blankly. If it weren’t for their colleagues supporting them, they might have simply collapsed onto the ground. Only their dark eyes remained locked onto the Sword of Death.
What chilled Su Ping’s heart even more was the realization that the Heavenly Tomb Army, which was supposed to consist of exactly one hundred people, was missing a few figures. Clearly, some individuals hadn’t found comrades to support them inside the Soul Furnace. They had been completely transformed into Sword Souls, becoming part of the nourishment for the Sword of Death and the Soul Furnace.
It was cruel, but Su Ping knew this was inevitable. Perhaps they had anticipated such an outcome from the very beginning. He fell silent. Back then, he, Leng Ye, and the Legend of the Holy Dragon had tried their absolute best to stop the Heavenly Tomb Army from entering.
After finding out the situation inside the Heavenly Tomb, he knew that having more Beastmasters would be completely useless in this place. It was a guaranteed death trap. Only he, having obtained Charles’s Heavenly Tomb Mark—or rather, the Netherworld God Mark—could safely preserve his own soul, approach the Sword of Death, and ascend the Bone Throne. Anyone else, any other Living Beings, including the countless Pet Beasts, would inevitably be forged into Sword Souls in the Soul Furnace, becoming nourishment for the Sword of Death.
But there was no other choice. Even if the Ghost Saint and the Legend of the Holy Dragon had disapproved, these soldiers themselves would never have consented. However, sacrifices were never something to celebrate. This was especially true for Su Ping, who knew that these sacrifices could have been avoided.
He looked at Zhu Linxin. The man’s vacant gaze prompted him to turn to Qian Yi. "Qian Yi, can you restore Zhu Linxin and the others’ sword-transformed souls?"
Qian Yi clearly hadn’t expected that its first task after completing its Evolution and mastering this currently unrivaled Power would be healing and saving people. Nevertheless, the little fellow approached Zhu Linxin. It didn’t have much mastery over souls. It was just that after this Evolution, the very essence of the Undead was a combination of soul and Death. Moreover, these Sword Souls shared an inseparable connection with it.
Qian Yi carefully examined the figure in front of it and shook its head.
"WAH!"
Su Ping frowned, though he understood what the little fellow meant. In truth, restoring them wasn’t something the Sword of Death alone could accomplish; the Sword of Death was merely a catalyst.
The Soul Furnace was a Burial Ground forged by the Netherworld God at a massive cost after his death. The layout of the Heavenly Tomb and the existence of the Bone Throne were all contributing factors. As for the Sword of Death, it was indeed a node, but it wasn’t the biggest influence.
To give an analogy, one could tell what the Soul Furnace was just by hearing its name. For sword casting in a furnace, one needed to melt metal down into liquid at high temperatures and then pour it into a mold. The Sword of Death was the mold for these souls. Whether they could be restored had some relation to it, but it wasn’t the primary factor.
Understanding this, Su Ping sighed and looked at Bai Hu. "Lord Bai, please pass a message to the Holy Dragon. He must find someone to heal their soul injuries. If there’s anything you need me to do, just let me know."
He wasn’t an expert in this field. Treating soul-related injuries and illnesses was a tricky job, a fact Su Ping was well aware of.
Bai Hu took a glance, then nodded. Then, it turned an inquiring gaze back to Su Ping. Clearly, it was also a bit lost on what to do next. In fact, in the Legend of the Holy Dragon’s prior expectations, it was impossible for Su Ping to complete his exploration of the Heavenly Tomb and emerge after just one single day.
