Chapter 1461 - 1423: Warning

  • Next Chapter

In the worst-case scenario, Viggo Fortez might still have two chances to use the Wishing Technique.

If he fought normally, he could never be a match for Gedemitis.

In the era when that Old Wizard learned and thrived, those first-generation Wizards were truly like gods and demons.

Elemental interface creatures like Djinns and Fire Giants could effortlessly manipulate the Chaos Magic Power of the world, achieving a form of infinite magic power.

But back in that era, powerful Wizards simply weren’t willing to go through the trouble of finding them.

And someone like Geoffrey Monk, a Warlock with both means and interest, capturing a dozen to play with in bottles was nothing surprising.

Every Djinn possesses the equivalent of infinite magic power, and while they are volatile and ruthless, they still get easily captured by Geoffrey Monk?

Warlocks with advanced skills rely on magic research and spell enhancement to overpower a Djinn with a burst of magic and capture it; this has become the basic strategy.

Even if the one controlling the Djinn’s infinite magic power now is Viggo Fortez, Gedemitis would just find it somewhat bothersome to deal with.

He has lived for so long and had many fantastical experiences that a mere young Warlock with a Djinn couldn’t trouble him; he might even end up being slapped to death.

But the Wishing Technique is different.

A Warlock using the high-level capabilities of a Djinn undoubtedly employs the Djinn to wield its endless magic power, weaving those into appropriate magic for their purposes.

The most crude, wasteful, and unreasonable of these is directly using the three wishes on the Djinn.

Like a fairy tale, once these three wishes are completed, the Djinn will gain freedom and return to the air elemental interface.

And those wishes will be fulfilled as in fairy tales... though with some deviations.

For Djinns are not the benevolent, mischievous beings from fairy tales; they hate their captors to their very core!

If the Wishing Technique’s description leaves any loopholes to exploit, these creatures, with intelligence no less than humans, would surely hope to kill their captor in fulfilling the wish’s mandatory requirements.

For example, earlier, when Tishaya described Viggo Fortez’s current state, Lann merely squinted and glanced around, and essentially understood what had transpired here.

Gedemitis could easily suppress the young Warlock, perhaps even very comfortably.

But considering the Old Wizard’s demeanor earlier, Lann could also imagine what kind of wish Viggo Fortez might make when on the verge of being crushed to death.

—Make Henry Gedemitis’s heart leap out of his chest right now.

The description must be clear and precise.

If the goal was simply for the Old Wizard to die, then the Djinn might set the ’death’ to occur decades later.

Or design the ’death method’ to involve killing Viggo Fortez and perishing together.

As he pondered, Lann had walked from the damaged and burned top floor of Gastang Palace to the side of the building’s outer wall.

Looking down from this height, the black-and-white patterned stone bridge being repaired seemed as thin as a chopstick.

The sea breeze blew more fiercely at this height, causing Lann’s Smaug Dragon Hide skirt armor to flutter noisily, but his steps remained steady.

After walking out from the tower of Gastang Palace, Lann’s gaze swept around.

It didn’t take much effort to find Ciri’s footprints.

The sudden outbreak of chaos and slaughter must have startled her, and the Yennefer who brought her here must have immediately cast a protection spell to keep her from perishing in the burning tower’s flames.

Lann wasn’t sure where Yennefer was now, but regardless, he was now prepared to find Ciri first.

Quickly moving along the tower’s exterior, Lann’s proficiency in the Light Body Skill combined with his innate agility and strength.

Tracing Ciri’s cautious footsteps, along the way, Lann saw the body of an Elf who had fallen to the tower’s bottom.

A squirrel tail adorned the hat on his head.

He seemed to have tried reaching out to grab Ciri, but with her training on the ’Killer Road’ by Demon Hunters and having learned the Light Body Breathing Technique and Iwami Style, she easily outmaneuvered him, causing him to fall.

Following the trail, Ciri was smart; she knew how to take advantage of her flexibility and small stature, deliberately choosing paths that were dangerous and difficult.

But reaching the end, Lann couldn’t help but frown.

In the Demon Hunter’s vision, her path led upward, directly towards the highest point on Sandy Island—Tor Laura.

The chaotic teleportation tower abandoned since the Elf Era!

At the slope leading to the tower entrance, Lann saw a familiar figure.

Geralt.

One of his legs was already broken, bent outward at the knee, making it noticeably shorter than the other.

And his head, with its sickly pale white hair, was smeared with his own blood, leaving him in a mess. It was a sign of severe head trauma.

His fractured hand lay by his side. If this hand hadn’t blocked the blow to his head, Geralt’s brains likely would have spilled out through his ear!

Lann immediately approached to provide assistance.

But even as he was swiftly approaching, he could hear the delirious murmurs of the Old Demon Hunter even in his unconscious state.

"Ciri... run..."

So, Lann stepped onto the stone brick stairs, suddenly giving off a muffled sound of cracking bricks.

The young Demon Hunter’s face was calm, but just then, his meticulously maintained breathing faltered for a moment.

The real weight of his body and the quick steps he was taking suddenly and uncontrollably crushed the stone bricks of the stairs.

Then, with his breathing readjusted, Lann’s steps turned him into a fierce wind, sweeping past Geralt, tossing the small shield emblem from his waist onto him, and charging straight into Tor Laura’s tower!

As Lann rushed in, he saw Viggo Fortez’s feet leaving the ground, poised to float upward, investigating layer by layer until he found his target.

Upon seeing Lann enter, he stopped ascending, maintaining a height where he could meet the Demon Hunter’s eyes evenly.

"I’m really surprised, Lann. I thought you’d be more rational," Viggo Fortez said with a smile. "After all, I left quite a conspicuous warning, didn’t I?"

"You took Geralt as a ’warning’?" Lann said softly, with an unreadable expression. "Of course, I met him."

"Oh, I almost forgot," Viggo Fortez said insincerely, "He seemed to be your friend? A good one at that? What a pity... I was actually hoping to hear news of his death."

"Before he fainted, I said, ’I hope to see you again someday,’ but you know, Lann,"

Viggo Fortez, as if complaining to a friend, continued, "That was just a courtesy. He was too insignificant to me."

"That’s not true," Lann’s voice was as soft as a sigh, his gaze lowered, "He’s still alive, and his injuries are healing."

Viggo Fortez’s smile gradually faded, "That’s unpleasant news for me."

"Unpleasant?" Lann tilted his head, "Then I’m relieved."

"Clang!!!"

An extremely sharp Qi Flow Blade suddenly erupted from the sheath at Lann’s waist!

His arm drew the blade in a slash with seamless fluidity, moving at terrifying speed!

To an onlooker, it seemed as if the video skipped frames! One moment his hand was calmly resting on the hilt in a ready stance,

But the next moment, the hand was already gripping the gleaming blade, poised in mid-air on the opposite side of his body!

No one could see the movement in between!

Even at such speed, Lann’s hand, his body, and the stability of his actions and center were entirely flawless!

The swiftly passing high-pressure Air Blade was like a silver line flashing through the air.

Differing from back when the Iwami Style could produce powerful, long-distance Air Blades leaving clear refraction marks in the air,

As Lann’s skills progressed to the current stage of the Water-shaped Sword, his techniques have evolved to be increasingly perfect and dangerous.

The high-density air forming the silver line flashed and vanished, with only an intensely sharp high-frequency slicing sound shocking the eardrums!

Lightly, and so fast it was traceless, the silver line, upon passing, whipped up a fierce wind around the slashed space!

A clean and swift cut mark extended instantly on the ground, following the silver line.

The silver line passed diagonally across Viggo Fortez’s body suspended in mid-air.

Unimpeded, it sliced through, leaving sharp marks on the stone columns and walls of the tower behind him!

Viggo Fortez’s figure remained floating there, seemingly unaffected.

Meanwhile, Lann’s lowered eyes had already glanced sideways.

After swinging the blade, his arm quickly returned to defense, stopping above his head, as if the follow-up move was planned all along.

And just after Lann completed his action, a crisp metallic clash erupted with sparks flying!

"Clang!!"

A nearly two-meter-long, solid iron Magic Staff, wielded by Viggo Fortez, who suddenly appeared behind Lann, was blocked on Lann’s blade!

Lann did not turn around, but he already sensed from the contact point of the weapons that the opponent intended to retract the weapon, either to defend or retreat.

However, the strange force conveyed through the Climbing Carp disrupted Viggo Fortez’s coordination of his body.

Causing him to be a half-beat slower.

That slight delay...

"Screech!"

The blade, perfectly timed to stop, flowed like water after blocking the iron rod Magic Staff, pouring downward smoothly!

The gleaming blade sparked as it moved, poised to almost instantly slice off the opponent’s fingers along with half his hand!
