Chapter 1445 - 1409: Fake List?
Not just Lann, even Dikoschek, who was brought here by him and saw the faint red light in the sky over the Workshop District along the way, frowned as he looked at the open-faced Philippa.
Just from what Dikoschek saw, Lann’s Workshop District in the Valerian Steel Merchants Association was already on the brink of a fire.
Is this what you call ’limited to a hassle’?
Not to mention the things Dikoschek didn’t see, beneath High Hill Castle, five hundred knights of the White Rose Knight Order were going to raise siege engines tonight to attack the castle!
Is this also called ’limited to a hassle’?
Has Philippa gone mad?
If it were usual, Dikoschek and Philippa bickering and setting traps for each other would be commonplace.
But today! Now! He couldn’t wait to pull himself out!
Anyway, taking advantage of the night and sleep, the people he brought have basically finished their tasks.
Suspicious wizards have already been arrested and subdued, if the wizards want to conduct an internal judgment, let them go ahead.
"Yes, we will all leave, Lords of the Wizards."
Dikoschek spoke politely, showing no trace of the casual demeanor that earlier had him wave his hand to have several subordinates subdue the Great Mage.
"But, Phi, about our previous agreement. The items you found in Viggo Fortez’s room?"
"Found them. Here, this is yours."
Philippa handed a part of parchment to Dikoschek with an unchanged expression.
"Oh!" The sound of paper unfolding came from the spy master’s hand, "My heavens, this is fantastic! Duke Nite! Incredible, and..."
"Be cautious not to mention names, and don’t start executions as soon as you return to Crito. Acting rashly will cause public outrage."
"Certainly! Don’t worry, Phi." Dikoschek carefully examined the parchment again, "Those guys on this list, these ones yearning for Niflgaard Gold, won’t get in trouble... for now."
"I’ll use this leverage to turn them into my lapdogs, until eventually, the leash becomes a noose around their necks."
"Hmm, purely out of curiosity, Phi. Can I take a look at the other traitors on the list? Codwin, Temeria, Yaden... Just a glance."
"I know you want to see, but that’s none of your business." The Female Warlock replied coldly, "Liddercliff and Sabina have already got their respective lists, and they will handle them properly."
As she spoke, Philippa turned and pointed at the parchment she had just given away, speaking forcefully to Tishaya.
"Mentor, open your eyes and see, this is part of the evidence I will present at Gastang Palace... bribery and betrayal have begun! If we don’t clean them up, we’re all doomed!"
"To Gastang Palace," Tishaya glared coldly at Philippa, "At that time, we will of course investigate thoroughly, what is the truth. Whether it’s our colleagues betraying the North, or you representing the King, seeking to interfere with wizards."
With that, Tishaya turned to leave.
But before departing, Tishaya finally cast a deep look at the already fully armed Demon Hunter.
Lann did not respond to this gaze.
Because he and Tishaya both sensed that a divergence had already occurred between them in this matter.
If Philippa was indeed carrying out an internal purge because of the war between the North and the Niflgaard Empire, from Lann’s perspective, he could actually accept and even support their action this time.
But Tishaya was different.
In the eyes of this ’Ancient Female Mage’, internal wizard affairs cannot be interfered with by external forces, especially not by those kings who have long been displeased with the independence of wizards.
What’s more, up to now, Tishaya still thinks there’s a greater possibility that this is Philippa eliminating dissent and expanding her power.
So she certainly could not agree to take advantage of the meeting to conveniently gather people for arrest.
As she said, after this incident, both the independence and political status of wizards have already been thrown to the ground and trampled upon!
"Henry Gemitis has also been called up, he is very angry too, Philippa." Tishaya finally said coldly before heading towards Gastang Palace, "You’d better think about how to explain to us."
The two strongest and oldest human wizards in the world simultaneously dissatisfied with one issue, yet Philippa’s expression remained resolute.
If it were unreasonable, using mana to speak, she wouldn’t even be qualified to stand before Tishaya and Henry Gemitis.
But since her learning, she has climbed all the way to sit at the same high meeting table as these two, enjoying the same level of power among wizards.
This was not achieved through mana but through the organization structure of ’reason and rules’.
And this time, Philippa felt no guilt and was full of confidence, she was indeed the one on the justified side.
Tishaya departed, leaving Lann slightly frowning.
But he was not worried that their relationship would become irreparable because of this difference.
Whether friends or a closer relationship, differences are always present because they are two independent individuals and not everything can be in sync.
It’s best to try to mend afterwards.
But there are more important things right now.
"I won’t look at that piece of paper." After Lann watched Tishaya leave, he suddenly turned to Philippa and spoke, "But I want to know, is the person who suggested you trouble me, who provided various support, and diverted me tonight, on that paper?"
Because if Philippa’s goal was merely ’to cause Lann a bit of trouble’, what those executors did now is far beyond that!
Who instructed them to go overboard? Or, did they already receive instructions from the start to escalate the scale of ’causing some trouble’ to this extent?
Upon mentioning this, Philippa still appeared bewildered, but Dikoschek had already transitioned from the joy of obtaining the parchment to a serious demeanor, looking at Philippa.
Only then did the female warlock suddenly realize something was amiss!
"What did those people do?!"
Philippa immediately understood the hidden implication of Lann’s question and looked at Dikoschek.
The head spy didn’t speak, merely looked at the other party and silently shook his head.
"Oh my God!" Philippa was first surprised, then furious! "Son of a bitch! Dared to treat me as a fool?!"
But after the anger, Philippa’s face turned grim. She looked at the parchment in Dikoschek’s hand and spoke with difficulty.
"His name... isn’t on it."
Then Dikoschek’s face, full of muscle, also became gloomy: "Then this list becomes unreliable! What’s the value of an unreliable list, Phil?!"
"This isn’t what we agreed on, Philippa!"
"How are we supposed to deliver results, by offering our own heads?"
Sabina and Liddercliff, who also received the traitors’ list for their country, were now shouting curses.
Lann subtly hinted, and the originally confident Philippa immediately felt the situation was spiraling out of control.
This group took the initiative, catching and detaining the traitors among warlocks while drunk and asleep without any resistance.
Then they found the list from Viggo Fortez’s core room... this should have been smooth sailing!
But now, the list is unreliable!
Did Viggo Fortez specifically prepare a fake one? But if he was prepared to make a fake list, why did he get caught here?
A coup, clearing out traitors, these things often result in complete failure due to a single mistake!
An incorrect list represents too many possibilities!
"Silence!"
A chorus of dissatisfaction quieted abruptly under Philippa’s stern shout.
The warlock’s prestige and influence within the wizard community were evident.
"Viggo Fortez is already captured by us." Philippa scanned the restless crowd, "He is currently wearing the Demon-Blocking Golden Shackles, being escorted to Gastang Palace, which has already activated the anti-magic array, he can’t cause trouble!"
"The list has issues, at worst we interrogate slowly, it’s merely a matter of speed! Why panic?"
With that, Philippa gritted her teeth and somewhat nervously faced the expressionless Lann.
At this moment, the previously dissatisfied warlocks and spies suddenly broke out in cold sweat.
They were competing for intelligence, but the various places under this guy’s name were under attack!
If he gets anxious... even though the anti-magic array has been activated, covering everywhere from Gastang Palace except Luoxia Palace on Sandy Island.
Even if the array wasn’t active, these warlocks are very close to Lann!
As several mages who witnessed Lann’s participation in the battlefield on Sodden Mountain, their sense of security almost vanished!
But strangely enough, as the person whose immediate interests were most harmed, Lann himself, under the tense watch of Philippa and the other warlocks and spies, appeared relieved.
He wasn’t anxious, nor angry, in contrast, almost everyone could feel... he was now much more relaxed.
"So, those people were also traitors favoring Niflgaard?" Lann’s brows slightly unfurrowed, as if laying down some burdens and worries.
"That’s good." The demon hunter murmured first, then turned his gaze toward the stunned Philippa and Dikoschek, showing a beautiful smile.
"When they’re all dead, you can vouch for me, right? I originally thought killing all those people might make explaining to your king a bit troublesome."
"This way, a group of traitors dying can be regarded as early execution, right?"
"Yes..." Philippa first muttered a bit dazedly under Lann’s smile, then snapped to slightly clearer sense, stiffly turned to Dikoschek, "Right?"
Dikoschek, looking obese and strong, was much more swift than his collaborator.
He immediately raised a hand as if making a vow: "Right!"
