Chapter 28: Chapter 28: He Was Too Ruthless

Xiao Li said nothing, continuing to escort the two inside.

As they reached the door to the hospital room, they happened to see two soldiers dragging Doctor Huang out.

Song Shunqiang and Liu Yumin recognized Doctor Huang at a glance.

One of his legs was dragging on the ground, his foot mangled beyond recognition.

It was a mess of blood and flesh. His pant leg was soaked through with blood, and his face was smeared with it too.

The couple sucked in a sharp, cold breath.

Xiao Li clamped a hand on each of their shoulders, holding them firmly in place.

His grip was immensely strong, preventing them from even bending over.

"Sir, I’ve brought them."

Inside the room, Shen Zhenwu was speaking in low tones with the hospital director and a doctor.

Hearing the report from the doorway, he immediately turned, his gaze sweeping coldly toward the entrance.

Song Shunqiang’s mind was in utter chaos.

Overcome by fear, he instinctively looked for someone to take his anger out on.

His eyes darted around frantically before suddenly landing on Song Yao, who was leaning against the bed.

"You little bitch! What the hell did you do?!"

One moment he was trembling in fear, the next he violently jerked his body and screamed at Song Yao.

It was a habit he had developed over many years.

The moment he saw Song Yao, he forgot his current predicament, remembering only the authority he wielded at home.

Shen Zhenwu was already suppressing a simmering rage.

But now, Song Shunqiang had the audacity to scream and curse at his own flesh and blood right in front of him.

The scene instantly shattered the last of his self-control.

"Who the hell do you think you are, daring to curse Shen Zhenwu’s daughter?"

Before the words had even faded, Xiao Li had already lifted his foot and kicked viciously at the back of Song Shunqiang’s knee.

Song Shunqiang lost his balance and fell heavily to his knees.

Before he could recover, he looked up to see a weapon pressed against his forehead.

"AHH!"

A scream escaped his lips.

Immediately after, a large wet patch spread across his crotch.

The man swayed, his face a mask of terror and shame.

Shen Zhenwu glanced down.

’This coward actually pissed his pants from fear?’

He frowned, his eyes filled with thick contempt and disgust.

"A pathetic loser like you made my daughter suffer needlessly for nineteen years?"

Normally, Shen Zhenwu wouldn’t even give a man like this a second glance.

In his decades of service, he had seen his share of life and death and met countless people of all characters.

But he had never encountered someone so utterly spineless.

’So gutless!’

And yet, this was the very man who had hidden his biological daughter, causing his family to search desperately for all those years!

His chest heaved, and his fists clenched so tightly they cracked.

"Shunqiang, Shunqiang, don’t scare me!"

Liu Yumin threw herself onto her husband, shouting and wailing at the top of her lungs.

Then she turned and started howling again.

"Murder! Help! What sins did we commit in this life to raise a heartless beast who turned on us and brought a gang to kill us!"

The people standing around were either leaders or important figures from the hospital.

They were used to handling major incidents and could remain calm in unexpected situations.

But they had no idea how to deal with this kind of hysterical scene.

"Shut up!"

The veins on Shen Zhenwu’s forehead throbbed. He wished he could just send her on her way.

Liu Yumin caught a glimpse of Shen Zhenwu’s movement, and her heart sank.

She knew this man wasn’t just bluffing; he would actually do it.

Not only would she die, but her own daughter’s good life would be over too.

"What right do you have to kill me? You... you’re just thugs that girl hired! I-I’m not afraid of you!"

As she spoke, she shot a glare at Song Yao.

"You little jinx!"

Suddenly, Liu Yumin sprang up and rushed toward Song Yao.

Her fingers were splayed, aiming straight for her cheeks.

But with so many people around, how could she ever lay a single finger on Song Yao?

Song Yao immediately shrank back, a timid expression on her face.

She only relaxed slightly once she was sure the woman couldn’t reach her.

Still, she grabbed the blanket, wrapped it around herself, and curled into a small ball.

Shen Zhenwu saw the entire scene unfold.

A pang of sorrow hit him, and his eyes instantly turned red.

’My poor girl, they’ve abused her into this state!’

At that thought, rage shot straight to his head.

He raised his hand, ready to give Liu Yumin a vicious slap.

But as a man of principle, he never hit women or the elderly.

Halfway through the swing, he forcefully changed direction, landing two slaps—WHACK! WHACK!—across Song Shunqiang’s face.

Song Shunqiang staggered back two steps from the blows, blood immediately seeping from the corner of his mouth.

Having just escaped the blow, the terrified Liu Yumin was secretly delighted.

’Hmph, so this so-called leader only has this much nerve after all.’

She secretly glanced up at Shen Zhenwu, a trace of mockery flashing in her eyes.

Before the thought had even finished forming, her face burned as she was struck hard on both sides.

Xiao Li retracted his hand, his expression unchanged.

"I don’t have any rule about ’not hitting women.’"

Shen Zhenwu’s eyes lit up as he clapped him on the shoulder.

"Well done, Xiao Li!"

Xiao Li grinned and took half a step back with a simple, honest smile.

Liu Yumin clutched her face and began to sob.

It hurt, an excruciating, piercing pain!

Tears and saliva streamed down her face, and a throbbing pain shot up from the roots of her teeth.

"You still dare to wail here?"

Shen Zhenwu’s voice was low and threatening.

"Am I her biological father or not? Say it!"

"I’ve already investigated. That day, it was you who took my one-day-old daughter from Yunan Hospital! Don’t play dumb with me!"

Liu Yumin trembled violently.

But she gritted her teeth and forced herself to speak.

"I... I don’t know what you’re talking about..."

Her voice was muffled, laced with sobs and fear.

Even so, she refused to admit it.

"You can’t prove anything you’re saying!"

’That’s right, there’s no proof!’

Back then, both babies were so scrawny, who could tell them apart?

Seeing this, Song Yao felt a sting in her nose and cried out tearfully.

"If you really didn’t switch the babies, then why were you so cruel to me? I was forced to do heavy labor from such a young age, and you never even gave me enough food to eat!"

"That winter when I was five, I didn’t have a padded jacket. I could only wrap myself in a ragged burlap sack to sleep in the kitchen. It was freezing cold, my hands and feet turned purple, and I had a high fever all night. I was so dazed I couldn’t even get a sip of water."

"I was lying on a pile of straw, half-conscious, when I heard you two whispering in the house. You said you were going to send me away in the middle of the night when no one was looking. You’d just tell everyone you sent me to a relative’s house for treatment, so I wouldn’t cause trouble or ruin your reputation by dying at home..."

"Nonsense! You’re making that up from a dream! We never said anything like that!"

Liu Yumin shrieked.

Xiao Li kicked Song Shunqiang’s leg.

"Your turn. Is what Song Yao said the truth?"

Song Shunqiang dropped to his knees with a THUD and started knocking his head against the floor.

"It had nothing to do with me! It was all that bitch Liu Yumin! I didn’t know! Please, spare me! I’m my parents’ only son, I can’t let anything happen to me! If I go to prison, my old folks won’t be able to survive!"

Seeing him act like such a wimp, Liu Yumin became furious and screamed at the top of her lungs.

"Song Shunqiang! You act so tough at home, don’t you? Weren’t you fearless when you were cursing the child and beating your wife? But now you’re this much of a coward in front of outsiders? Why don’t you fight them! Stop acting like a sniveling wimp! Have you no shame?!"

"Shut your mouth!"

Xiao Li raised his hand as if to strike her again.

Before his palm could fall, Liu Yumin instinctively flinched, ducking her head and shrinking back.

This young man’s blows were even more vicious than the leader’s.
