Back to the 1980s: Becoming the Villain's Lucky Wife

Chapter 631 - 661: The Son Said He Doesn’t Hate You

  • Next Chapter

Feng Lan must have been dealt a heavy blow by this incident.

Especially since that man had died right before her eyes.

Also, before Xiao Tao went to prison, he had said one thing to Feng Lan: "Mom, I don’t hate you."

Feng Lan had burst into tears right then and there.

She and her husband bore a great deal of responsibility for their son ending up this way. Most importantly, if Feng Lan hadn’t taken their son to that man, Wang Dagang, none of what happened later would have occurred.

Ultimately, Feng Lan was the most responsible.

If her son had said he hated her, Feng Lan might have felt a little better. She could have even cursed him for being an ungrateful monster, wondering how he could possibly hate his own mother.

But instead, her son said, "I don’t hate you."

That just made Feng Lan feel even worse.

In fact, when Xiao Tao was first sentenced, Feng Lan had considered getting back together with Qin Jiqun. It was only after she got involved with Wang Dagang that she realized what a heavenly life she’d had with the Qin family.

Even though things were bad now, the rest of the Qin family was doing well. They would never just stand by and watch Qin Jiqun suffer.

Mr. Qin was gone, but wasn’t Old Mrs. Qin still around?

So, Feng Lan brought up the idea of remarrying to Qin Jiqun. But he told her, "I found a job on a construction site. I move bricks every day and have to live there. If you want to remarry me, we can get the license first, but then you’ll have to go back to the old house in Three Families Village and wait for me by yourself."

Their previous homes had all been sold, and the money had been squandered. All that was left was the most dilapidated old house where Mr. Qin and Old Mrs. Qin used to live.

Feng Lan gritted her teeth, turned around, and left.

If that was how it was going to be, she might as well marry someone else. At least her husband would be by her side.

This time, though, she would find an honest man to marry and wouldn’t get any other ideas.

Qin Jiqun wasn’t surprised by her choice at all. And considering how much of the Qin family’s money Feng Lan had spent, he felt he had done all he could for her.

From now on, he planned to work and save money while waiting for his son to get out.

He had done the math. ’The old house back home isn’t worth much, but it can still be sold for some money. There’s also some money I hid away before, plus what I’ll earn from working. All of that together will definitely be enough for Xiao Tao to get married after he gets out.’

**

The Mid-Autumn Festival dinner was a lively affair. It had been many years since the whole family had gathered so boisterously.

Qin Xiaolan added, "My mom said that if there’s room here, she and my dad will also come to North City for Chinese New Year. We can all celebrate together then!"

Su Yun, smiling, said, "Of course there’s room! Tell them to come early, otherwise it’ll be hard to buy tickets at the end of the year with all the crowds."

Qin Na also said, "Exactly! It’ll be so great to have the whole family together, all lively and cheerful."

Qin Xiaolan exclaimed, "I’ll go call my parents and tell them right now!"

The others just smiled and shook their heads. Chinese New Year was still several months away.

The group was a picture of cheerful commotion. Mr. Du would occasionally ask Shen Yi about recent events, and Shen Yi, while answering dutifully, kept his eyes on Qin Jiao.

Mr. Du said with a helpless sigh, "We’re at home, surrounded by family. Are you really worried something dangerous is going to happen?"

Shen Yi gave a wry grin and said, "Oh, by the way, Grandpa, speaking of Chinese New Year, Mom said she wants to take you abroad this year. It just so happens you have a check-up that needs to be done overseas. What do you think?"

The old Mr. Du would have refused without a second thought.

But the Mr. Du of today was much more optimistic. After all, his plan was to live to be ninety-eight.
