Ryan looked at his status screen and nodded slightly.
"Well, it’s not bad. I can always summon them again if they die."
He then opened his summoning interface and summoned all his available summons.
One after another, powerful figures appeared around him. The Spirit Wolf, Spirit Serpent, Blizzy, Orc Shaman Chief, Black Water Wyvern, Skeleton King, Death Knight, Skeleton Great Mage, Fallen Priest, Vampire Baroness, and Serendipity Witch Doctor.
The enormous group of summons filled the surrounding area, each carrying a different kind of energy.
"Kill everything in this dungeon," Ryan ordered.
All his summons nodded before rushing in different directions to carry out his command.
Ryan watched them leave before glancing down at his equipment. His Death Blade Knight Legendary Set covered his entire body, giving him a powerful and imposing appearance.
"Now, let’s see what we can find," he mumbled.
He began wandering through the Forgotten Spirit Forest, keeping Soul Vision active as he examined his surroundings.
The forest was unusually quiet.
There were no birds singing or ordinary animals moving between the trees. Instead, countless spiritual traces could be seen throughout the forest. Some were weak, while others carried considerably stronger spiritual energy.
Ryan occasionally spotted strange creatures hiding behind trees or watching him from a distance. However, none of them approached him.
Perhaps they had already sensed the powerful presence surrounding him.
Ryan continued walking until he reached a small clearing.
At its center stood an ancient stone monument covered in strange markings. Several large trees surrounded it, their roots extending across the ground and partially covering the monument.
Ryan stopped and examined it with Soul Vision.
Unlike the surrounding trees, the monument contained an unusually concentrated amount of spiritual energy.
"Hmm?"
He approached it and noticed several lines of text engraved on its surface.
Unfortunately, the writing was unfamiliar.
Just as Ryan was considering whether to ask one of his summons to examine it, a system notification appeared.
[Hidden Location Discovered: Forgotten Spirit Altar]
[An ancient altar used by spiritual creatures to preserve their memories and abilities has been discovered.]
[Special Condition Detected.]
[The user possesses the necessary spiritual perception to interact with the altar.]
Ryan raised an eyebrow.
"An altar that preserves memories and abilities?"
He looked at the monument with renewed interest.
If the information was accurate, this place might contain something valuable.
Ryan placed his hand against the stone surface.
A faint glow spread across the engraved markings, and the surrounding spiritual energy began gathering toward the altar.
[Forgotten Spirit Altar Activated.]
[Searching for compatible spiritual inheritances...]
[Several inheritances detected.]
[Would you like to examine the available inheritances?]
"Inheritance?" Ryan mumbled.
He activated the altar, curious about what it contained.
A moment later, numerous names appeared before him. Each name was accompanied by a brief description of the inheritance it represented.
There were all kinds of inheritances available, ranging from sword techniques and combat arts to alchemy, blacksmithing, formations, and various other professions.
Ryan was surprised by the sheer number of options.
[Forgotten Spirit Altar]
[Available Inheritances Detected.]
[Select one inheritance and complete its corresponding trial to obtain it.]
"Hmm, let’s see."
Ryan began browsing through the available inheritances. Some were quite interesting, especially the ones related to alchemy and spatial magic. However, one particular name caught his attention.
Death Moon Knight.
He opened its details.
[Death Moon Knight]
[Rank: S]
[Type: Combat Inheritance]
[Description: An ancient inheritance left behind by a powerful Death Moon Knight. It contains knowledge of special sword techniques, combat skills, and the unique abilities of the Death Moon Knight.]
"Oh, this looks interesting."
Ryan selected the inheritance.
[Death Moon Knight Inheritance Selected.]
[Preparing Inheritance Trial...]
The moment he confirmed his selection, the surroundings began to change.
The stone altar beneath his hand released a bright white light. The ground trembled, and the forest around him gradually disappeared.
When the light faded, Ryan found himself standing in a vast, empty space.
The sky above him was pale white, while the ground beneath his feet was covered in dark, cracked stone. A large black moon hung in the distance, surrounded by a faint white glow.
At the center of this strange space stood a Death Knight.
Unlike the Death Knights Ryan had summoned, this one possessed an unusually refined appearance. Its armor was dark silver with white patterns resembling crescent moons. A long black cape hung behind its back, and its helmet had two curved protrusions resembling horns.
It held a massive greatsword in one hand.
[Trial Objective]
[Defeat the Death Moon Knight, Hubryk, and claim his inheritance.]
"Oh, nice."
Ryan examined the Death Knight for a moment before drawing his Death Blade Greatsword.
"Let’s fight, buddy."
The Death Knight remained motionless for a few seconds.
Then its head slowly turned toward Ryan.
Two black flames ignited inside its helmet, and it raised its greatsword.
A powerful pressure spread throughout the area.
Ryan’s expression became slightly more serious.
"So, you’re not going to hold back?"
Hubryk suddenly disappeared.
Ryan immediately raised his sword.
Clang!
A powerful impact rang out as their weapons collided.
Ryan’s boots slid several meters across the ground, leaving two long marks behind him.
"Oh?"
He glanced at his sword before looking at Hubryk.
Despite his high attributes and equipment, the Death Knight had managed to push him back with a single attack.
Before Ryan could say anything else, Hubryk moved again.
Its greatsword swept horizontally, releasing a crescent-shaped wave of pale white energy.
Ryan used Death Step to avoid the attack.
The sword wave passed through the space where he had been standing and continued toward the distant horizon.
Ryan reappeared behind Hubryk and immediately swung his greatsword.
Death Slash!
A dark blade of death energy shot toward the Death Knight.
However, Hubryk turned around at an incredible speed and blocked the attack with its greatsword.
The two energies collided, producing a powerful shockwave.
Ryan narrowed his eyes.
This opponent was different from the monsters he had fought before.
Hubryk wasn’t relying on brute strength alone. Its movements were precise, and every attack seemed to follow a carefully calculated sword technique.
Ryan decided to observe it for a while.
He exchanged several attacks with the Death Knight, gradually becoming familiar with its fighting style.
Hubryk’s swordsmanship was unusual.
Its attacks were smooth and continuous, with every movement flowing naturally into the next. It rarely wasted energy, and even its defensive movements could turn into counterattacks.
Ryan found the style particularly interesting.
"Not bad. I could learn a thing or two from you."
Hubryk didn’t respond.
Instead, the black moon behind it suddenly released a faint white glow.
[Death Moon Domain Activated.]
The surrounding space changed.
Countless pale crescent-shaped markings appeared across the ground, while the light from the black moon gathered around Hubryk.
Its armor began emitting a cold, deathly aura.
Ryan immediately noticed the difference.
The Death Knight’s physical abilities had increased, and its sword energy had become considerably denser.
Hubryk raised its sword toward the sky.
Death Moonfall!
A massive crescent-shaped blade appeared above Ryan before descending toward him.
Ryan quickly activated Death Blade Aura and raised his greatsword.
Death Blade Execution!
A massive dark blade emerged from his weapon and collided with the descending attack.
BOOM!
The impact shook the entire trial space.
The crescent blade shattered, but Hubryk had already closed the distance.
Its greatsword came down from above.
Ryan blocked it, but the force behind the attack was considerably greater than before.
He quickly adjusted his stance and pushed Hubryk back.
"You’re getting serious now, huh?"
Ryan grinned slightly.
He had initially thought this would be a simple trial, but the Death Moon Knight was proving to be a worthwhile opponent.
He tightened his grip on his greatsword.
"Then I suppose I should stop holding back too."
Ryan released more of his death energy.
His Death Blade Aura spread across the battlefield, covering the ground in a dark haze.
Hubryk responded by raising its sword once again.
The two Death Knights faced each other beneath the black moon.
Then they charged.
Their greatswords collided repeatedly, producing sparks and shockwaves that spread throughout the domain.
Ryan relied on his superior attributes, while Hubryk made up for the difference through its refined swordsmanship and unique abilities.
For the first time since entering the trial, Ryan found himself genuinely interested in his opponent’s techniques.
Every exchange revealed something new.
He began adjusting his own movements, imitating some of Hubryk’s footwork and incorporating its sword angles into his attacks.
Hubryk seemed to notice the change.
Its movements became even faster.
A series of pale sword arcs appeared around Ryan, forcing him to defend from multiple directions.
Ryan used Death Step to evade the first few attacks, then activated Spatial Exchange to change his position with a nearby stone fragment.
He appeared behind Hubryk and swung his greatsword.
However, the Death Knight reacted almost instantly.
It turned its body and blocked the attack.
Ryan clicked his tongue.
"You’re quite troublesome."
Hubryk pushed his sword forward, forcing Ryan to retreat.
Then it raised its weapon with both hands.
The black moon behind it began glowing brighter.
[Death Moon Knight Hubryk is preparing its ultimate technique.]
Ryan looked at the enormous amount of energy gathering around the Death Knight.
"An ultimate technique? Let’s see it."
Hubryk brought its greatsword down.
[Death Moon: Eternal Night!]
A massive wave of black and white energy spread across the entire domain.
The sky darkened, and countless crescent-shaped blades appeared around Ryan.
They descended simultaneously.
Ryan immediately activated Death Blade Domain.
His own domain expanded, colliding with Hubryk’s Death Moon Domain.
For a moment, the two domains struggled against each other.
Then Ryan raised his greatsword.
[Death Blade Execution!]
A massive blade of concentrated death energy erupted from his weapon, cutting through the incoming crescent blades.
The remaining energy continued forward and struck Hubryk directly.
The Death Knight was pushed backward, its armor releasing several flashes of light.
However, it remained standing.
Ryan looked at it with genuine admiration.
"You’re pretty tough."
Hubryk slowly raised its head.
The black flames inside its helmet flickered.
Then it lowered its sword and assumed a completely different stance.
Ryan immediately recognized that something had changed.
This wasn’t another attack.
It was a new sword technique.
He adjusted his grip and prepared to respond.
The next exchange would decide the outcome of the trial.
