Chapter 55: Chapter - 55: Why Today?

Monday.

One day before Elena’s birthday.

Students hurried from one building to another while carrying books, instructors checked attendance before practical lessons, and the large halls throughout the academy campus were already filled with groups of students practicing magic under the supervision of their teachers.

Normally, the beginning of the week was one of the busiest periods inside the Royal Magic Academy and today is no different except for that the sessions aren’t held in the classrooms for this week, instead they are held in large halls of the academy.

Because of that, all the students have been divided into several groups and assigned to different training zones scattered across the academy.

Today’s first practical lesson had just ended, and our next class was scheduled inside the eastern training hall which will start in around 15 minutes.

Right now Elena and I are heading to the eastern training hall ahead of time because we don’t have anything else important to attend to unlike others.

For example, Lily just went to submit a report to her senior over certain research they were carrying over some plant, while Ian has also disappeared somewhere.

But somehow, we aren’t the only ones going before time as I can also see some other students of our class heading to the same place, including prince Lucian who is walking not far behind us.

*It’s rare to see him without Hina or Ray around*

I thought to myself as I saw him being surrounded by some random students who are definitely trying to get close to him after seeing that he’s alone today. There were three girls and a guy.

"Kai what are you lu...."

Elena seems to notice me glancing back as she also followed my line of sight and stopped mid sentence, realizing why I looked that way.

"Everyone here is eager to get close to those of higher standing than themselves."

I said as I remembered how some students had also tried to approach me and Elena in the start, but we easily saw through their intentions and maintained distance from them.

I wonder how Ray handles all these people so well that when he is around, very few dare to approach Prince Lucian. Well talking about Ray and Luna, they are probably with seniors from the noble faction since Luna accepted their offer.

"I need to tell Hina about this." Elena said as we saw some girls trying to act too close with Lucian making him almost flustered.

*Poor boy* I thought to myself already imagining how exaggerated girl’s gossip can go.

Well, Hina being most teachers’ favorite might have been held back by for something.

Or she might be planning something to counter tomorrow’s incident, well it is not something a mere student can completely prevent, at most she can warn teachers to stay alert.

After taking a left turn, the gate of the eastern training hall came into view, but instead of advancing towards it, I stopped in my track.

"Huh?" Elena looked at me with puzzled expressions as she also stopped in her track.

*Something isn’t right*

I am suddenly getting a bad feeling, and a weird one, like someone is watching us. So I immediately activated my horizon eye and looked around the area ignoring the puzzled and curious expressions of the few students watching.

"Elena, stay close to me." I told Elena who although doesn’t know what’s going on, nodded her head in agreement.

Using my horizon eye to its fullest extent I spotted an unusual movement of someone. But not anywhere on the ground, instead I sensed someone on the ceiling.

And when I finally caught a glimpse of that ’someone’ I felt a cold sweat on my back, immediately realizing who it could be.

The person seems to have also realized that I sensed its presence as it suddenly jumped down from the ceiling towards its target..... Prince Lucian.

*Damn it! Why is it happening today?!*

Without a moment delay I immediately cast a spell and wind gathered around my palm, forming a small vortex.

"Everyone! Step aside!"

I immediately shouted while preparing my magic, it will be troublesome if any of these students get injured because of it.

Others seem to be puzzled for a moment, but Lucian who has clearly realized how good my instincts are after the forest incident followed without any question.

The moment Lucian stepped aside from his previous position and the invisible figure of the enemy became clearer in my horizon eye, I launched my attack.

The small wind of the vortex in my palm turned into a compressed stream of wind as I aimed it at the invisible target whose feet had still not touched the ground.

But the moment before my attack could even make contact with the enemy, he twisted his body in such a weird way that it completely avoided the attack and the enemy safely reached the ground.

"L-lord Kai! What are you doing!"

One of the students exclaimed as I attacked the invisible target. But I had no time to answer him as I prepare for my next move.

I touched my storage magic device and my magic staff instantly appeared in my hand and with it I cast another magic, ’Sea Serpent’s Den’.

Water is gathered from the atmosphere and converged into several snakes composed of water and attacked the invisible enemy.

"Tch! To think a kid can see through it."

The faint but sharp voice of the enemy could be heard in not so big of the corridor, instantly making the other students shocked in terror.

"Kai, where is it?" Lucian realizing the situation, instantly summoned his magic staff out of his storage type magic tool.

Elena also did the same, while the other students started running towards the eastern training hall.

"Don’t go th-"

BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!

Before I could complete my sentence, the continuous noises of explosions ran throughout the academy campus and the ground beneath us as well as the whole corridor shook from the aftermath, signaling that the explosions were not too far awaye.

The noise masked my voice and the students clearly didn’t hear it as instead of stopping, they started running faster in panic, but I didn’t even have the privilege to monitor them let alone stop them since the invisible opponent was still in front of me and only I could see him.

"Elena, stop them." I told Elena to take charge of the running students.

She immediately nodded without any question and cast a magic spell using her magic staff and a black beam of darkness was shot from it going ahead of the students and created a wall of darkness seeing which the students stopped in their tracks.

"Don’t run in panic, we don’t know where the enemies can be so stay where you are!"

Elena called the students out and although reluctantly, the students stopped where they were.

Of course the invisible enemy wasn’t just going to sit around. As soon as it somehow dealt with my sea serpent’s den, it launched an attack towards me.

"Follow my direction and attack."

I said to Lucian as I cast ’Piercing Storm Needles’ and several miniature storms were created in front of me, then the storms transformed into long piercing needles of winds and headed towards the target.

At the same time, Lucian cast a light type magic spell as several thin beams of light are released from his staff and aimed in the same direction as my piercing storm needles.

The enemy seeing that his invisibility is no longer of any use finally revealed their face, it was a man with a very slim build. His whole body from head to toe is covered in a purple combat suit except for his eyes.

But the weirdest thing about the man was that there was a long purple reptile like tail extending behind him, and it is definitely not a part of his combat suit.

As soon as his figure became visible to the naked eye another change happened to his body as it radiated a faint purple light from his clothes, and the thing shining brightest was his naked tail which somehow increased in length until its length is equal to if not more than the man’s body.

His movements were unusual as he rapidly moved and twisted his body in incredible angles, dodging most of the attacks. While he uses his shiny tail to deflect the remaining ones.

He was successfully able to deflect a light beam that Lucian launched towards him but unfortunately for him, the moment his tail collided with a piercing storm needle, a sharp sound was heard.

"Aghhh!"

The man let out a growl in sudden pain as a hole can be seen on the part of the tail where the storm needle hit, but through my horizon eye, I noticed the hole has started to heal already.

"You Motherf*cker!"

Shouting in anger, the man jumped forward towards me with his tail long actually reaching me ahead of himself as he tried to lash it at me.

"Watch out! It is poisonous!"
