Chapter 1465 A Sign
Chapter 1465 A Sign
Atticus tore through the endless forest at unimaginable speed.
‘Where is he?’
Only a minute had passed since he killed hundreds of gods and took over a territory. Though his will and awareness expanded to encompass its entirety and more, Atticus still hadn’t been able to find Magnus.
‘Has someone gotten to him already?’
It was an unimaginable thought. If Magnus had unluckily met his end from a random champion…
Atticus’ aura grew cold. He would see to it that he slaughtered every soul in this game.
‘No. I can’t think like that.’
He shook his head, slowly unclenching his hardened fist.
‘Other territories. Yes, he could be in other territories.’
Unfortunately, the Great Verge had gone through great lengths to make sure nothing was easy. As an Eldorian connected to Eldoralth, Atticus should be able to sense Magnus despite the distance. But not only could he not, he couldn’t even sense his soulkin and bond.
‘Ozeroth. Noctis…’
Atticus was also worried about them, but right now, Magnus took priority.
‘They can take care of themselves. Especially Whisker.’
“Look! He’s captured a territory! Let’s go after him!”
“He’s mine!”
Atticus’ eyes flashed cold and he gripped his katana. As multiple gods surged towards him, he vanished. Heads flew into the sky and landed on the earth with loud thuds. The forest fell silent, but Atticus was already long gone.
‘This beacon is annoying.’
The territory came with great benefits, but also great disadvantages. Though his reach had now expanded, as its lord, leaving the territory attached a beacon to him that alerted all gods about his status as lord.
Defeating and killing him meant taking over his territory, which made everyone he came in contact with come after him with their full force.
‘There’s also that bounty to worry about… what’s my next course of action…?’
Atticus closed his eyes for a moment then opened them.
‘Capture another territory.’
He had to expand his awareness to increase his chances of searching for Magnus. His next move decided, he tore forward at even more speed. Though they were mostly low leveled gods with little minor worlds under their belt, every god he met on the way was killed effortlessly and he kept on accumulating more worlds.
Atticus was far too worried about Magnus to bother checking how many worlds he’d gathered so far. He wasn’t going to leave this layer without finding Magnus first.
Soon enough, he came to an abrupt stop as he reached the end of a tall cliff. A large city stretched across the valley below.
‘The next territory.’
Atticus jumped. The wind lashed at him, whipping his air and clothes, but his eyes remained wide open as he scanned and scanned.
For any signs. Any clue. Time had passed since the game began, and the longer Magnus remained alone the more dangerous it became. He had to be in this territory or else it might be too late.
‘C’mon grandpa… anything…’
A flash of light snapped Atticus’ gaze towards one part of the city, followed by the crackle of thunder.
His eyes sharpened.
‘Lightning.’
Clouds gathered across the sky, and lightning flashed within its depth, followed by the rumble of thunder.
‘Is it…?’
In a world where will was power, there was only one person he knew who was so stubborn as to use lightning to fight.
‘Grandpa…’
Atticus’ eyes narrowed to slits as he landed just outside the city. He blurred forward at insane speed, tearing through the city.
…
“Huh? What the heck is this? Lightning?”
A man burst into laughter as he swatted away a streak of lightning about to hit him, as though it were an annoying bug.
“Old man… don’t tell me I hit you too hard? Gone senile on me?”
A man with hair white as snow stood before him. Lightning crackled across his battered figure. He was breathing heavily, body on the verge of collapse, yet the determination in his eyes didn’t waver.
“Are you okay?”
Magnus glanced sideways at the beautiful black haired woman standing a few meters away. Though she looked at him briefly, her attention stayed locked on their opponent.
“Yes.”
She nodded.
“We attack together.”
Magnus returned the nod, face hardening.
‘I have no more will…’
He had tried using his will earlier, but it had burned out almost instantly. Whisker had warned them during training, but experiencing it firsthand was something else. The people of the middle planes truly lived on a different level.
The man before them was a subordinate of a god with forty minor worlds. His strength and will pressure were overwhelming, far more than Magnus could handle.
‘Even with her…’
He’d been lucky to meet a kind god and champion on his way here. The two gods were currently battling elsewhere, leaving Magnus and the woman to deal with the champion.
Magnus tightened his grip on his lightning spear and lowered himself into a stance.
‘I can’t leave him.’
Atticus’s face flashed in his mind. That child carried too much weight on his shoulders. If Magnus could lessen that burden even a little, he had to.
That was why he trained endlessly. Why he pushed himself every single day.
To strengthen himself. To survive.
To help his grandson.
‘I can’t give up.’
He would live through this, and he would find Atticus.
“Pfft! What is this? This is so sad it’s almost melting my heart. Almost.”
Magnus and the woman exchanged one silent nod. Lightning cracked around him; a golden glow ignited around her. Together, they surged forward, weapons cutting arcs toward the man.
He smirked and stretched out his arm.
“Reflective Shield.”
A golden energy unfurled, condensing into a round shield just as their attacks struck.
Magnus’ eyes widened as the shield flared with light, then shot their own attacks back at them. He twisted aside, lightning streaking from his feet, and swept a kick toward the man.
“Ha! Pathetic.”
The man’s will flared the moment Magnus hit.
‘Urk!’
Magnus stifled a grunt. It felt like kicking a metal pillar. He regained his senses just as the man’s blade descended.
“Pierce.”
The woman flashed behind the man in a burst of gold, her sword darting toward his neck.
“Tsk. Stupid bitch.”
He halted his strike and brought his blade up in time to meet hers, steel clashing with a burst of sparks.
Magnus vaulted up, spear thrusting for the man’s back. But the man roared:
“Enough!”
His will slammed into both of them like a falling mountain, sending them crashing into the ground.
Magnus spat blood and forced himself up. Across the crater, his companion was already rising. Shaken, but still glowing.
They both eyed the man warily.
“It’s time to stop messing around.”
His will surged violently, thickening into an armor that encased his entire body. A massive broadsword formed over his arm, and he swept it sideways, unleashing a savage gust of force.
His eyes glowed blood-red. A crazed smile twisted his face.
“Now… I’ll show you true power. Ascendance.”
They responded with twin pillars of light that shot into the sky and collided with his in an explosive burst.
