Chapter 1124: Trap
The Rosecloud Domain, the Zephyr Mountains.
Standing on top of Starsnatch Pagoda made one feel like one was standing at the top of the world.
Tang Jie stood there with his hands held behind his back, looking up at the sky.
Even without the Celestial Eyes, Tang Jie could still see into the depths of the Astral Winds, where balls of flame twinkled like meteorites.
The intruders were enduring the trial of the Astral Winds, the clash of their barriers with the wind creating endless flames.
These flames could melt down all kinds of metals, but they failed to harm even a hair of these Titans, only producing a magnificent light show.
In the center of those meteorites were a series of thick black pillars.
These pillars cut straight through the Astral Winds, and within them were countless fiends that traveled through them to reach the surface. Black energy spewed out of the pillars, gushing over the Rosecloud Domain and quickly turning a region dark.
“So these are the Dark Elevators? They really do live up to their reputation. The fiend that created this Divine Connection was definitely a genius,” Tang Jie remarked.
The Dark Elevator was a supreme Divine Connection created by a fiend Titan of the Divine Spring Domain specifically so that their juniors could roam the cosmos. Any fiend at Violet Palace or above could use it, and the strength of the elevator depended on one’s own strength. In other words, if one could pass through a region, the Dark Elevator one created could also pass through, though those traversing the elevator had to have a cultivation level no higher than two tiers below that of the creator.
Even with this restriction, the Dark Elevator was still a powerful strategic Divine Connection. Its formidable transportation abilities could vanquish the hopes of any small domain that hoped to beat a greater foe with sheer numbers.
Right now, at least a hundred fiend Titans were generating Dark Elevators above the Rosecloud Domain.
The Astral Winds of the Rosecloud Domain had been extremely strong, and even Soul Projection cultivators would find them difficult to overcome. But after the merging with the Blood River Domain, the Blood River had retreated and the Astral Flames had been dispersed, greatly weakening the Domain Astral Winds. In addition, the domain migration formation had further expended the Astral Winds, weakening them even more, so even Deification cultivators could get through them now.
The weakening of the Astral Winds made it easier for the native cultivators to go in and out, but it also made it easier for enemies to invade.
At this moment, all the fiends at Deification or above of the Divine Spring Domain were using Dark Elevators to transport fiends. These fiends might not have had the intelligence of humans, but they had cunning natures. While they were greedy for resources and wealth, they still sent their subordinates first. Only a small number of temperamental and arrogant fiends chose to test the Astral Winds with their bodies, anxious to feast on the humans below.
The dark pillars and searing meteorites created a celestial spectacle in the skies of the Rosecloud Domain.
Whoosh!
A Dark Elevator landed on the Zephyr Mountains.
This elevator was particularly thick, with a diameter of nearly a thousand feet. This meant that it had been created by a Fiend God.
Through the black fog, one could see countless fiends howling out, many of them quite strong.
“Celestial Sovereign, the fiends are attacking!”
A page boy ran over and prostrated.
“I see it. Have everyone move according to the plan!” Tang Jie calmly answered.
“Yes!” The page boy ran off with the order.
With Tang Jie’s order, numerous cultivators rose up from various areas of the Rosecloud Domain to combat the fiends.
But they seemed to be completely unprepared, barely showing any resolve against the fiends. Not only that, these were mostly weaker cultivators, with many higher-level cultivators not participating. They seemed to regard this as some ordinary fiend raid and didn’t take it seriously, to the extent that many Titans remained in seclusion.
The fiends of the Divine Spring Domain were elated, and they sent even more fiends down.
As the fiends entered the Rosecloud Domain, they brought disaster and calamity.
The fiends rampaged over the wilds, towns, fields, and waters, creating storms, deluges, earthquakes, floods, and wildfires. Wherever they went, calamity followed. Even the Rosecloud Domain, which had already gone through one cultivator war, would suffer losses and deaths in such circumstances.
The human cultivators were dealt a heavy blow and were pushed back again and again by the fiends, the flood too strong to resist. At this moment, some of the cultivating Titans finally emerged. But the fiends had already built up momentum, and the humans were now on the back foot such that even the Titans could not salvage the situation. They could only use their powers to temporarily hold back the fiends.
The great fiends outside of the Rosecloud Domain laughed at this sight.
“These Rosecloud Domain cultivators are lacking in both strength and reaction. For them to walk the path of the stars like this is no different from seeking death!”
“Then what are we waiting for? Let’s take this domain, eat all the humans, and inherit all they have!”
The fiends called out and charged down without hesitation.
Twenty percent had gone down in the first wave, and now, seventy percent of the fiends had gone through the Astral Winds, the remaining ten percent choosing to be cautious and remaining above, observing the situation while continuing to send down fiends.
Another rain of meteorites appeared in the sky.
This sight made Tang Jie smile. They had finally taken the bait. Everyone had had to endure quite a lot in order to get all these fiends into the Rosecloud Domain.
“Tang Jie, the fiends are attacking en masse, but ten percent of them are still outside. What’s your plan?” Yun Tianlan transmitted.
He was the only one whose Divine Will could penetrate the Astral Winds and see the situation outside the domain.
“What?” Tang Jie was taken aback. He sighed, “What a pity.”
“Should we wait a little more? Wait until the last ten percent of fiends enter before attacking?” Mu Ziyang asked.
Tang Jie shook his head. “No. We’ve already paid a lot for our patience. Too many will die if this continues. We can accept small sacrifices for the sake of victory, but we can’t completely ignore the lower class simply for the sake of victory.”
The Immortals all replied, “Agreed!”
Titans needed both profound cultivation and also the maturity to match this level of cultivation. As his cultivation grew and he aged, Tang Jie had also grown more mature, no longer seeking victory at all costs, understanding that there were things that could be done and others that could not be done.
“Then let’s attack. Activate the formation, seal off Divine Wills so that they are blind and deaf. Once they can’t call for help… kill!”
“Kill!”
“Kill!”
“Kill!”
All the cultivators roared, and the formations laid out across the domain silently activated as the cultivators mobilized.
At the same time, the meteorites began to emerge from the wind layer.
“Hahahaha, I’ve arrived!”
Jinxuan roared as he burst out of the Astral Winds. He was the first to arrive of the second wave of fiends.
He had used up eighty percent of his spiritual energy in order to break through the Astral Winds.
But this was fine. If he were given just half a day, he could restore all that he had lost, and his hunger for human flesh meant that he wasn’t even willing to wait that long. Even twenty percent of his strength was enough to run wild on this world.
Jinxuan chuckled to himself as his serpentine body broke through the clouds.
Suddenly, he sensed that something was wrong.
There seemed to be something in the clouds.
Turning in shock, Jinxuan saw a young cultivator standing behind him, giving him a cold look.
When did this human get behind me? Jinxuan thought in alarm.
He instinctively raised his barrier, and as a golden light erupted around him, so too did the cultivator’s sword flash like a burst of sunlight. A moment later, his vision and everything else about him was consumed by a flood of energy…
“The one who killed you was Qi Shaoming.” Qi Shaoming smoothly sheathed his sword and stowed away the fiend corpse before flying off to the next target.
Elsewhere, a Diamond Bull fiend was descending from the heavens. Its steely skin was weak from the roasting of the Astral Wind, and as it was recovering, a wave of sword energy flew out of nowhere and slew the bull. Only then did Xi Canhen appear. He wasn’t as proud as Qi Shaoming and would always attack from the shadows if possible, and he certainly wouldn’t tell the deceased his name. Xi Canhen also stowed away the fiend corpse before moving to his next target.
Such ambushes took place all across the Rosecloud Domain. Wei Tianchong, Cai Junyang, Wang Posha, and others cut down the invading fiends like they were cabbages.
These fiends were rather unfortunate. With their strength, in a one-on-one fight, they were equal to these humans, but getting through the Astral Winds had eaten away at their strength, turning them into lambs awaiting slaughter. In their situations, even an Infant Tending cultivator would have been able to kill them.
Compared to the Deification fiends, the Soul Projection Fiend Emperors fared a little better. Breaking through the Astral Winds normally took a third or less of their strength, so they could survive a subsequent ambush. But as the exhausted force facing the fresh enemy, they couldn’t hold out for long and had to run for their lives.
The Fiend Gods were in the best condition.
After all, to Immortals, the Astral Winds basically had no effect and took a negligible amount of energy to neutralize.
But what awaited them were the strongest cultivators of the Rosecloud Domain.
The red-crowned Fiend God from before sensed four powerful energy signatures approaching it the moment it exited the Astral Winds, and each one was an existence on par with it, much to its shock.
Although the Divine Spring Domain had many Fiend Gods, not all of them had come on this offensive. The two True Immortals had not come, and only half of the twenty Earth Immortal Fiend Gods were participating.
At this moment, the Rosecloud Domain had Huang Wuji, Fairy Gu Ye, Ye Yun, Mu Ziyang, Blossom Queen Ran Qing, Ji Wenzhang, Ling Xiao, Xiao Biehan, Ji Qingfeng, Xu Guanghua, and the Vermillion Bird, for eleven Earth Immortals in all. In addition, they also had the Earth Immortal–level Mother Cloud combat puppet.
It was twelve versus ten, but they were not equally distributed.
Huang Wuji, Ling Xiao, Xiao Biehan, and Blossom Queen Ran Qing were set against the red-crowned Fiend God.
But this one wasn’t even the worst off.
The moment the blue-eyed Fiend God burst out of the blazing flames, an immense pressure locked onto it, rendering it immobile.
It shuddered and cried out, “True Immortal!”
