Nova Secret Sect.

In a castle on a mountain peak.

Nova Deathstrokia stared at the young lady seated across her with a satisfied smile on her face.

"How is it going, Brightwell?"

Brightwell, the heir to the Nova Secret Sect and Cosmo Adams’ former fiancée, said:

"Master, some unknown variables got in the way. The signals of the first batch of assassins sent after them died. We will send a stronger batch after them."

"Alright. And stop being too vague. I know that Aiden Vhorn killed them. I am a legendary Rank 4 warrior. I have my ways of finding out about these things. Next time, be more effective. If possible, eliminate Aiden Vhorn too, so that he doesn’t get in the way," Deathstrokia said.

"Yes, Master," Brightwell replied. "We will make sure that the next batch of assassins target Aiden Vhorn too."

"Good." Deathstrokia petted the fluffy cat on her lap. "If you fail this small assignment to eliminate someone who frowned on the traditions of the sect, then you are not fit for the sect leader position."

"Yes, Master, I won’t disappoint you," Brightwell replied.

Suddenly, the doors of the luxurious hall opened.

A figure panting on his last breath stepped into the hall.

"You dare interrupt a conversation between me and my disciple, Butler? You must have reasonable reasons to act this way, else, you won’t leave this room alive," Deathstrokia said.

"Matriarch!" The butler bowed, shaking in fear. "I wouldn’t dare to barge in here if the situation didn’t demand it."

"Speak," Brightwell said.

"Matriarch, all the Rank 3 warriors of the sect, from beginner Rank 3 warriors to legendary Rank 3 warriors are dead! Not even high quality surveillance footage was able to capture anything."

"What did you just say?" The Matriarch’s bloodlust leaked across the room for a moment. It was so thick that no one could see anything.

Realizing that the butler and her disciple were almost fainting, it disappeared.

She resumed her composure and calmed down.

Brightwell herself was extremely surprised.

"You are saying that surveillance nanocameras that Matriarch personally bought from the International Union, that can even capture the presence of advanced Rank 4 warriors wearing invisibility bracelets, failed to capture the person who killed all our Rank 3 warriors?"

The butler tapped a screen on a tablet. A holographic display expanded for all of them to see.

Various Rank 3 warriors across different regions of the sect were going about their normal business.

Suddenly, they dropped down and died.

There were no attacks, no wounds, nothing. No discoloration of their skins or any part of their bodies indicating that some sort of poisons had even killed them.

It was a very chilling sight.

Even the Matriarch widened her eyes in shock.

"Whoever is behind this must have used some mind control affinity to kill our Rank 3 warriors from a distance outside the range of our surveillance nano cameras. This is the only way to explain this. So who commanded them to act?"

"Matriarch, a message was left behind on the general sect training grounds," the butler said.

A projection of something largely written in red was on the general sect training grounds.

[This is for what happened 300 years ago... just as you slaughtered our sect members, we have reciprocated in kind. If you think you are tough, we will always welcome a challenge]

The Matriarch laughed when she read the message. She knew who did this.

There was no way someone else could pull off something like this. After all, what happened 300 years ago was a secret between the Ninehail Secret Sect and the Nova Secret, was not even known to the Adams Secret Sect and the Halbard Secret Sect.

A group of Nova Secret Sect disciples had gone senile and slaughtered 5000 core sect disciples of the Ninehail Secret Sect because of some cultivation manuals.

Deathstrokia quickly salvaged the situation by compensating the Ninehail Secret Sect with a large number of legendary Rank 3 alchemical products and disciples.

The matter had been kept under the wraps due to the agreement signed between the two sects.

To think Ninehail would still want to seek revenge.

"It looks like Ninehail thinks we have gone soft," Deathstrokia said.

"Matriarch, you mean..."

"This can’t be..."

The butler and Brightwell widened their eyes in realization. As high ranking members of the Nova Secret Sect, they naturally connected the dots since they were aware of the incident. They were not alive at the time of that incident, but they had access to certain information as high ranking members of the sect.

"Yes. Ninehail did this. Had it been any other stunt, I would have assumed that someone wanted to manipulate us into going to war with another secret sect. If it had been the Adams Secret Sect, I would have even grown suspicious of Aiden Vhorn trying to get revenge for his Arica and Cosmo. After all, the young man is called the Ghost Strategist now. He is an adept schemer. But, only Ninehail and the higher ups of his sect knows of this incident. So it’s them," Deathstrokia said.

"That’s true."

"Yes, Matriarch."

"Brightwell, gather the Rank 4 warriors, we go to war. If Ninehail thinks we have gotten soft, and wants to dishonor our sect, this war won’t end unless the Ninehail Secret Sect is destroyed. I will personally lead the troupes."

"Yes, Master," Brightwell said.

Sitting on the sidewalk bench, enjoying his noodles, and enjoying the festival of Took Ancient Town, Aiden smiled.

Aiden had used his abnormal senses to glean information from a conversation happening between Ninehail and his grandchildren. Ninehail was telling them a story about how 300 years ago, they almost went to war with the Nova Secret Sect because of an incident. But, the situation was salvaged by Deathstrokia’s quickwittedness.

After getting this information, Aiden used microscopic crimson threads soaked in some rare poisons with no visible skin coloration effect after killing their targets to get rid of the rank 3 warriors of the Nova Secret Sect.

He knew only the high ranking members of the two sects were aware of the incident that happened 300 years ago, so the moment he left the message behind after killing the rank 3 warriors of the Nova Secret Sect, the Matriarch will assume Ninehail did it.

As for why he wanted to use the Ninehail Secret Sect and the Halberd Secret Sect as collateral, it was for the exact reason why Deathstrokia didn’t suspect he was behind this, and the Adams Secret Sect wouldn’t suspect he was also behind what he was about to engineer on their end.

Things were going exactly as he was anticipating.

His gaze shifted towards the Adams Secret Sect. It was time to move the pieces on the board.
