The enforcers and Dickinson stared at the lodgekeeper.

This man was the real deal.

He was terrifying.

"Your drinks, gentlemen." Aiden poured the drinks for the enforcers.

"Senior, please." One of the enforcers stood up and quickly collected the drinks humbly.

His heart was pounding in fear.

Who the hell was this Lodgekeeper?

He was extremely terrifying! Terrifying!

Dickinson was so shocked that he could not move.

He stared at the corpses on the ground.

No wounds. No signs of attack. Nothing.

This lodgekeeper was not simple.

"Senior, thank you." He performed a waist-length bow and thanked the senior.

Aiden nodded with polite indifference.

"Your room?" he asked.

"Ah, right... Here’s the money." Dickinson put the money on the counter. Aiden gave him the key card.

"Pleasure doing business with you," Aiden said professionally.

Dickinson nodded in fear and headed towards the elevator.

It looks like I need to hide in this lodge till I can return to MadCity next month with the MadCity enforcers vehicle. This lodge is the safest place in this town. This lodgekeeper must be a legendary rank 2 warrior, Dickinson sighed inwardly as he entered the elevator.

Aiden absorbed the blood essence of the corpses on the ground, and sent them into his storage bracelet.

He returned to playing his game.

The town enforcers were puzzled.

This Lodgekeeper was really crazy.

They were outcasts themselves and had met their fair share of criminals and crazy people. But this man was on another level. They could not put a finger on it.

But the feeling his calm, unassuming presence evoked was more unsettling than that of the town Lord.

"How are we supposed to take taxes from someone like this?" one of the enforcers whispered.

"We have to. We are working on orders," another replied.

"I know. But... who will do the talking... this man is too terrifying. What if he kills us in a fit of anger?" the other said.

"But we have to give tax accounts to the town Lord. So we have no choice but to take the tax from him." They stood up and headed to the counter.

"Senior... please..." They didn’t even finish talking.

"You are here for the taxes, right?"

The lodgekeeper replied.

"Errm, yes sir. Just 1000 dollars, please," one of them said, quite taken aback by the easygoing demeanor of the lodgekeeper. They knew he was polite, but... they had not anticipated this kind of reaction from him.

The scene of him killing people without lifting a finger or even demonstrating any attack was still very clear in their minds after all.

"Alright." The lodgekeeper waved his hand.

1000 dollars appeared on the counter.

He handed it to the town enforcers.

"Thank you, senior," they said.

The lodgekeeper nodded politely as they left.

News about the mysterious lodgekeeper of the Central district lodge spread throughout Rustwater town.

The town enforcers, alongside the customers who had been the first patronisers of his service, spread word about him when they left the lodge.

The lodgekeeper was a rumored powerhouse who could kill those who dared to cause trouble in his lodge without even moving, or lifting a finger.

No one even knew how strong he was.

Anyone who caused trouble in his lodge was killed by him effortlessly.

The rumors about the people he killed were not detailed. So no one knew how to gauge his strength.

Rumors were that his prices were completely low compared to the other lodges in the other districts of the town.

Because of all these rumors flying around, many people were curious about this mysterious lodgekeeper. They decided to visit the lodge to see this lodgekeeper for themselves.

Some also decided to patronise his services, since his prices were deemed cheaper.

Two weeks later.

Rustwater Town, Nighttime.

Northern district.

In an apartment.

Four people were gathered here.

These four people were the lodgekeepers of the lodges of the northern, the eastern, the southern and the western district of Rustwater Town.

They all had expressions of frustration on their faces.

"How do we deal with this fellow everyone is calling The Lodgekeeper?" the lodgekeeper of the northern district lodge said.

"Sigh... ever since he took over the Rustwater lodge, all our customers have been flocking to that place. What puzzles me is that his services are even subpar," the lodgekeeper of the Southern district lodge said.

"Indeed. He doesn’t run a housekeeping, cleaning or cooking service. Yet, people keep flocking there. The only way we are earning money is through robbing the few customers we have left. Sigh..." the eastern district lodgekeeper said.

"Well, that could be the reason why we are losing customers. Maybe they spread rumors when they leave? That they’ve been robbed?" the western district lodgekeeper said.

"Don’t be stupid. This is the Kahra Desert. Who here doesn’t know that the law of the jungle is what works here? Even the lodgekeeper of the Central district, did he not kill the previous lodgekeeper to take over his business?" the Northern district lodgekeeper said.

"Sigh... we are left with only one alternative then. We have taxes to pay and rent to pay too. We can’t afford to go broke. We need to get rid of this guy. If we don’t do that, people will keep flocking to his lodge and we will keep procuring losses in our businesses," the southern district lodgekeeper said.

Everyone nodded.

"Intel from some enforcers who visited the Rustwater lodge is that he’s at most an advanced rank 2 warrior. We all just broke through into the expert rank 2 level, right? Even if he’s powerful, there is no way he can take on four of us! Coupled with the members of the local gangs we own, getting rid of him will be easy!"

"Wait... why don’t we ignore this fellow and take over the town by killing the town Lord?"

"Are you crazy? That guy was put here by the city Lord of Madcity. We can’t offend the city Lord. If we kill him, what do you think will happen to us?"

"Yeah. Don’t forget that Vanity has been an expert rank 2 warrior for longer than the rest of us! We can’t even kill him even if he didn’t have the backing of the City Lord of Madcity!"

"Sigh. I was thinking we could put our money problems to rest by killing the town Lord. But I guess I got carried away. You guys are right. Then, our only option is to rally up our subordinates and head to the Rustwater lodge. Let’s get rid of this guy."

"Yeah, absolutely. We can’t afford to watch our businesses fail!"

"It’s decided then!"
