Chapter 121: Chapter 19 - Magic Affinity

My head being hit by Master Amagi’s thick magic book felt like a blessing in the night. Seeing her cute, blushing face after muttering to herself in the library was so embarrassing for her.

Muttering and reading a magic book at night can sometimes take one’s mind elsewhere. They dwell on a problem that just pops up, consider the thoughts in their head to be a questionable.

If I were in Master Amagi’s matters, confused by the term "Magic Affinity," the answers I’d get would be quite varied. Affinity, in general, is an attraction, closeness, or sympathy based on some interests. There are various types of "magic affinity" in popular novels, and it all depends on the context.

Caress...

Caress...

My hands, accustomed to stroking Master Amagi’s hair, caressed it fearlessly. It was already a common occurrence for Master Amagi in her intimate moments with me. This gentle caress only made her feel even more embarrassed.

"You love teasing me in such naughty ways, Liliana..." Master Amagi muttered with a small sigh.

Her head, which was moving from side to side, still trying to turn her face away from me, stopped when she felt my hand caress her hair. I lowered the thick magic book she had used to hit me on the head. I felt no physical injury, only a mental one from seeing Master Amagi’s cuteness.

As a beautiful, cute Villainess girl in the future, Master Amagi always uses cunning methods to deceive men, so she appears innocent in others’ eyes. Always the victim of the main character who sees through her tricks, she always finds a way out with her clever wit.

Who would have thought that it was the result of diligently reading magic books when she still a child?

"I’m not teasing you with naughtiness. I’m just asking out of curiosity," I replied as I let go of my hand, who caressing her hair.

I quickly sat down beside her and looked at the magic book she was reading. It was a thick magic book recommended by the Head Maid, with far more complex vocabulary than the basic magic books given by Marchioness, for my handwritten magic book references. The difference in language alone indicated the author was a nobleman and highly educated.

Unlike the magic books I wrote, it was much more complex, with a style of language meant to make the reader think.

While sitting beside Master Amagi, I smiled gently at her.

"I’m not too busy tonight."

"I can help Master Amagi get answers about magic affinity."

I know I sound confident about this.

Because I am the author of this novel’s world, the concepts and rules of magic have become part of my writing experience. Even if they’re muddled by the Great Goddess’s obscure rules, at least they can still be exploited to my advantage in the future.

Yeah, that obscure loophole in the rules of magic... sometimes works to my advantage as a strong imagination practitioner.

Or I just like to imagine something in my head...

"Do you know anything about magic affinity, Liliana?" Master Amagi asked, tilting her head.

Slluuussshhh...

Slluussshhhh...

Her long, straight hair fell to the side, reflecting the moonlight shining through the window, and leaving me momentarily stunned by her beauty. It was a deceptive way to make me feel good about explaining something to her.

Her cheeks, still stained with a pink blush, pierced my heart with a love arrow that made my heart flutter. The natural beauty of a Villainess girl pretending to be innocent in the future was truly terrifying.

Master Amagi hadn’t yet become a Villainess... so it caused too much damage to my pounding heart.

Ugh, beautiful people are indeed scary.

I’ll have to get used to seeing Master Amagi’s natural beauty face at unexpected times like this.

"I know, it’s in the discussion of the basic magic book I’m reading," I replied while trying to stay calm after seeing her beauty.

Pllaappp!!

"TELL ME, LILIANA!!" Master Amagi’s small hand held mine, feeling cold and a little dirty after eating the spicy sandwich that was her dinner.

"I-I’ll say it... because that’s the answer Master Amagi is looking for, right?"

"Y-Yes, that’s the answer I was looking for. It turns out my mother was right. Magic can’t be taught just like common things; two mage sometimes have different ways of thinking of magic. My mother said that the quality of mana and mana capacity affect the spells that can be cast. But this magic book explains... the mana affinity affects the quality of a mage’s spells," said Master Amagi with sparkling eyes.

Kiiirrraaa...

Kiiirrrraaaa...

She’s so eager to study interesting magic books, huh?

"Maybe it’s true, the same principle apply as cooking a fried egg. Some add the cooking oil first, some add the egg after, and some don’t use any cooking oil. The magic books in general have a variety of different mage perspectives. I think that’s what caused magic spells to develop rapidly."

I don’t know what I’m saying, but the basic rule of magic in this novel’s world is imagination. The various ways to create that imagination are what lead to the many different types of magic in this novel’s world.

How could I say that all of this is rooted in people’s differences in imagining things, right?

It would destroy the basic concepts of magic that Master Amagi had learned.

Considering Master Amagi’s ability to mastering advanced magic spells, continuing her complicated method of learning magic wasn’t too bad.

"I see!! There are various ways of cooking too? Likewise with magic!" Master Amagi was very enthusiastic about my little explanation, even though it had nothing to do with magic affinity.

"Yes, and magic affinity is the same. As far as I understand magic affinity, it is a mage’s natural affinity for a certain type or element of magic. Two different mages have different magic affinities. For example, their Fireball magic. With a high fire magic affinity, a fire affinity mage will excel in their Fireball magic compared to a mage without a fire affinity."

"Isn’t that just poor mana control?" asked Master Amagi, puzzled by my explanation.

"That’s also part of magic affinity, Master Amagi. The higher one’s magic affinity, the easier it is for him to learn his magic element, control the mana he uses, and be able to use his magic affinity without draining much mana."

"So, it’s not just bad mana control?"

"It might have something to do with poor mana control. But this magic affinity is what helps a mage cast his strongest spells. As far as I’m concerned, I’m quite skilled at casting Fireball. I think my magic affinity is fire."

"Liliana, Fireball magic is a basic level magic that is easy to learn. I am also quite skilled with that spell. Thinking of it as our magical affinity... is quite disgusting to me," said Master Amagi, who looked gloomy for a moment.

"..." I couldn’t reply to those words.

It seems there are several basic magic tiers that Master Amagi deems disgusting. One of them is Fireball, which is considered the most trashy tier to her.

I don’t blame that, though.

As the Author who created the rules of magic in this world, I have to admit that Fireball is indeed an alternative solution for the storyline of the main character learning magic.

Thinking of it as disgusting spell in Master Amagi perspective, it felt like an arrow had pierced my creative brain as an Author.

Sttaabb...

Sttaabb...

My heart ached a little, but I had to ignore it.

Unbeknownst to Master Amagi, she had wounded my vulnerable heart with her innocent words.

"For Master Amagi, it might be disgusting spell. But for me, who needs fire magic to cook in the refugee camp and escape tools from chasing monsters, a bunch of fire is indeed necessary. I don’t feel disgusted by my magic affinity... If it’s really fire," I said with a smile.

My mouth suddenly moved, and I said that. Flashbacks of Liliana’s past, when she fled with her mother, flashed through my head. My heart felt a surge of joy when my magical affinity was fire.

"..." Master Amagi’s eyes never left me, faltering slightly at my sudden words.

"I didn’t say it was disgusting, Liliana. I just wanted to say—" Master Amagi’s words stopped midway.

Her pastel purple eyes gazed at me softly. Her tight grip on my hand slowly released me.

"A fire isn’t so bad for warmth at night, is it?" Master Amagi continued, wiping my cheek, which felt somewhat damp.

My vision blurred instantly, filled with strange, uncomfortable lumps on my eyelids. Blinking it will be awkward in front of Master Amagi.

Liliana’s twisted memories of her past reveal a glimpse of her past hopes. With fire in her hands, perhaps she could do something about the monsters attacking her hometown.

Or something better, like taking revenge on something that resides in her heart.

I knew it was Liliana’s past, but hearing that hope being mocked... made Liliana’s little heart tremble uncontrollably.

Swwiiippp...

Swiiippppp...

"Liliana... I’m sorry," said Master Amagi while wiping my cheeks, which felt increasingly wet.

"Fireball isn’t that disgusting. I take my word for it."

"Ah, no! Fire affinity is not that disgusting and is suitable for everyone!"

"Uh, um, maybe there are many magical affinities we can discover together, Liliana!"

Master Amagi looked nervous in front of me. She seemed to be trying to calm me down, as I looked fragile before her eyes.

This feeling in my heart is bothering me; for some reason, I feel like I want to tell something that happened in Liliana’s hometown.

A hope and prayer from an innocent girl who wants to survive after losing several important things in her life.

The tragedy that destroyed Liliana’s childhood.
