Chapter 199: Chapter 140: Fend for Yourself, Chang’an Sect Master

"Blood Demon Dao? What is the Blood Demon Lord doing?"

The Red-clothed Sword Immortal frowned deeply. She had sensed another familiar aura.

’How did the Chang’an Sect Master’s aura get entangled with that one, the one similar to the Desire Demon?’

"Hm? The Killing Dao?"

Hesitating on whether to unleash a second sword strike, Jiang Jiayi stared in disbelief at the star that had just flashed brightly in the sky for an instant.

’Someone has connected to the Killing Dao.’

Lu Changyuan had shattered that bowl of blood to connect to the Killing Dao and unleash a single sword strike. But unlike when he shattered the Emotionless Dao, this bowl of blood could only sustain the star’s brightness for a fleeting moment.

To many, it was merely a star in the sky twinkling for a split second. But to a Yao Guang Powerhouse who was paying close attention, especially Jiang Jiayi, it was unmistakably clear.

There was no longer any doubt as to who had caused it. The Red-clothed Sword Immortal breathed a sigh of relief.

’It seems I don’t need to interfere in the battle over there anymore.’

"The Chang’an Sect Master is, as always... admirable."

Compared to Lu Changyuan’s evil disciple, she, Jiang Jiayi, was far more reverent of teachers and their teachings.

Just as the Red-clothed Sword Immortal had predicted, the Black Dragon’s aura slowly faded, eventually dissipating from the world.

Jiang Jiayi gently lowered the Wooden Sword in her hand. A wry smile appeared on her face. "But, Sect Leader, with you being so blatant, Mo Yuan can no longer pretend she hasn’t guessed you’re alive."

Because Lu Changyuan had been avoiding the Daoist Sect Master, and the Daoist Sect Master hadn’t pressed the issue, the two had coexisted peacefully, pretending neither knew about the other.

But now, things were different.

Back when he fought the Celestial Tribulation, one could argue that it was a remnant left behind by Lu Changyuan, especially since the Unfeeling Dao Star ultimately shattered. But now, the Dao Star of the Killing Dao still existed; it was just dim and lightless.

That raised a question.

It wasn’t plausible to claim that Lu Changyuan had simply left more power in the Killing Dao and that it would take several uses to shatter it.

That made no sense.

The thin veneer of pretense that Lu Changyuan was dead had been completely torn away.

For a rare moment, Jiang Jiayi cupped her chin in her hand, lost in thought. Finally, she murmured, "Chang’an Sect Master, you’d better pray for your own good fortune. Mo Yuan hasn’t even returned to the sect yet."

Another secret of the Cultivation Realm.

The Chang’an Daoist and his only female disciple, the Daoist Sect Master, had a very poor relationship.

And the deeper secret within that secret—the various stories about *why* their relationship was so poor—was something no one knew at all.

Even Jiang Jiayi, who had entered the sect to seek cultivation at the same time as the Daoist Sect Master, was completely in the dark.

~~~~~~~~~~~
The phantom of the whale dissipated inch by inch.
The Black Skirt Fairy suddenly felt dizzy, and her breathing became ragged.
By constantly summoning Thoughts of Death, even though she was the esteemed Nether Monarch and had recultivated the Red Dust Sword Dao, she was reaching her limit.
’The toll was truly immense.’
The two Sixth Realm Masters were killing the spirits of the dead far too quickly. If she were still in the Fifth Realm, she would have already been unable to hold them off.
On the sea’s surface, the Cyan Blood Master finally breathed a sigh of relief after destroying the last Spirit.
’If word of this got out, we’d be a laughingstock.’
’Two True Masters from the Blood Demon Palace, shamelessly ganging up on a young girl who’s only been in cultivation for a little over twenty years, were actually held up for the time it takes half an incense stick to burn.’
The pustules on the Poison Blood Master’s body burst, and a stream of green liquid shot toward Qiu Yuehan’s face. "Capture her quickly! The Miao Yu Palace has sealed its mountain; they won’t dare to make a move!"
The Cyan Blood Master said, "Indeed."
The two True Masters launched another ferocious attack.
The Black Skirt Fairy was like a sliver of light in the dark night, her immortal grace tinged with a cold, grim killing intent. She said coolly, "I said it once. Anyone who crosses this line dies."
"How arrogant!" the Poison Blood Master sneered. But an inexplicable sense of fear rose in his heart. His eyes widened in horror. ’What is that?’
It wasn’t just him. The Cyan Blood Master was also shocked into silence. Their instincts screamed that if they took another step forward, they would truly be in mortal danger.
’On what grounds? She’s just a Fifth Realm practitioner of the Red Dust Sword Dao.’
DONG!
The answer to the Poison Blood Master’s question was the toll of a bell from the Void.
A path of white bone emerged upon the Sea of Blood, and a majestic city appeared behind the Black Skirt Fairy. Nether Qi surged like a great river, washing the stream of pus from the Poison Blood Master into the sea.
In truth, Qiu Yuehan didn’t place much importance on the Red Dust Sword Dao. She only kept it because it was what Lu Changyuan wanted her to cultivate.
But at a critical moment like this, priorities had to be clear.
The Nether Monarch was reappearing in the world once more. The Path of Death, dormant for thousands upon thousands of years, was about to welcome back its sovereign.
"Wait a second," Lu Changyuan’s resigned voice rang out.
Qiu Yuehan’s movements paused. She lifted her long, swan-like neck. "Is it over?"
"Yes."
A nearby volcano suddenly erupted for a second time. Ash blotted out the sky, threatening to swallow the entire sea, and the shocking, violent tremor of the earth’s crust made even the ocean tremble.
But this scene didn’t last long. A beam of elegant light pierced through the clouds, followed by a blinding brilliance that shattered the darkness.
The winter wind blew against Qiu Yuehan’s lovely cheeks.
The cage of night was broken. The demonic, bloody moon vanished from the Mortal World. In the center of a crimson sun was a blood-red dragon, the blood in its eyes like an incarnation of the blazing sun itself.
The victor had appeared.
The scales of the Black Dragon lost their luster bit by bit, becoming withered and decayed before finally falling from the sky, just as they had thirty thousand years ago.
"The Demon Lord... lost?"
The Cyan Blood Master and the Poison Blood Master stared at the terrifying Blood Dragon in the sky, their hearts threatening to burst with terror.
The Black Dragon’s hard scales, which covered its entire body, were now crumbling away piece by piece like a decaying city wall. The flesh beneath the scales disintegrated uncontrollably, finally turning into a downpour of bloody rain that scattered across the sky.
In the blink of an eye, the massive dragon’s body had completely collapsed, leaving only a human figure to fall limply from mid-air.
The Blood Dragon coiled in the air, its scarlet pupils sweeping indifferently over the falling Blood Demon Lord, but it did not give chase.
It slowly turned its head, its gaze falling upon the space where the Black Dragon had disintegrated. A single drop of golden Dragon Blood hovered there, shimmering brilliantly, like a star suddenly igniting in the night sky.
The light of the sun shone upon this drop of blood, making it appear exceptionally crystalline. And from within that drop, the reflection of Lu Changyuan’s eyes could be seen.
The Blood Dragon arrived and, without hesitation, swallowed the drop of blood. It then dove down, soaring over the vast sea. Countless whitecaps rose on the blood-colored water, and the resulting spray scattered in all directions, like innumerable jade fragments being tossed into the air.
"Get on."
Lu Changyuan’s voice, transmitted through the Demon Pattern, rang clearly in Qiu Yuehan’s ears.
The Netherworld dissipated.
The Path of Death also fell silent.
’It seems the Female Monarch of the Netherworld will have to wait a while longer before her return.’ A smile touched Qiu Yuehan’s lips as she stared intently at the approaching Lu Changyuan.
With a dragon’s cry, the Blood Dragon came to a halt beside the Fairy, carried on the wind. The Black Skirt Fairy brushed back a stray lock of hair, smoothed her black dress, and with a light leap, landed upon the dragon’s back.
Lu Changyuan’s voice held a hint of gloating. "Let’s go."
The dragon’s tail swept out like the sharpest of swords. The Cyan Blood Master and the Poison Blood Master both spat out blood as they were hurled into the distance, their fates unknown.
A touch of black rested on the blood-red dragon’s forehead, seemingly fused as one with it. Then, together, they vanished into the clouds as if returning to the sun, and were seen no more.
On the inner and outer islands of the Blood Demon Palace, now almost a complete ruin, the few who were still alive raised their heads.
They had all heard that dragon’s cry.
It was like the toll of a bronze bell that cracked the vast sea, or like the first blush of clouds at the dawn of creation, which, after a thousand years of cultivation, finally released its first rainfall—a sound that shook the soul.
