Chapter 196: Chapter 139: A Glimpse of Immortality in the Boundless White Clouds
Two dragons that made the world tremble now appeared. One was the Black Dragon, an incarnation formed by Yao Guang’s power resonating with the Dragon Blood. The other was the Blood Dragon, conjured by forcefully outlining the dragon’s skull with blood-qi.
Even though neither was the original Black Dragon, all the members of the Sea Race across the vast ocean bowed their heads in this moment.
「A few moments before.」
The moment Lu Changyuan used the bone fragment as a key to forcefully resonate with the dragon’s remains, his consciousness was dragged into a vast Sea of Blood.
The Blood Demon Lord hadn’t initially given up on reviving the skull. Quite the opposite. Within the first century of finding the Dragon Bone, he drew upon the power of the Blood Demons to infuse the Black Dragon’s skull with endless blood and flesh. This was precisely why the skull lay at the very center of the Burial Ground.
But the Blood Demon Lord had failed... or perhaps it couldn’t be called a failure. He had simply been unsuccessful in reawakening the Black Dragon. However, the blood and flesh the Blood Demon Lord had stored within the skull had not vanished completely.
Now, Lu Changyuan was reaping the benefits.
Lu Changyuan opened his eyes, coming face to face with a crimson ocean formed from centuries of slaughter and life.
Bloody waves surged to the heavens, churning without end.
From the center of the roiling Sea of Blood, a thick, impenetrable fog slowly rose. And from deep within the fog, an eye suddenly snapped open.
An indifferent, majestic dragon’s eye that had existed since the dawn of Ancient Times, an eye that reigned supreme over the world.
"A dragon?"
A long, ancient dragon’s cry was his answer.
An aura of death, so thick it was almost tangible, began to spread.
The pressure of meeting the dragon’s gaze was unimaginable. It took immense courage just to look directly into that single eye. As a chill shot up the spine and into the mind, one’s body would be compelled to kneel before the dragon and surrender all dignity.
This was the awe one felt for a powerful life form.
But Lu Changyuan felt no awe for the Black Dragon.
He stood firmly atop the crest of a churning bloody wave, the foul wind of the Sea of Blood whipping at his dark robes. His voice was so calm it held not a single ripple.
"I’m going to borrow your skull. It doesn’t matter if you give it to me or not. I’ll take it myself."
The Chang’an Daoist, who had suppressed the world for a thousand years, had never shown a hint of fear even when he swung his sword to cut down the heavens—let alone now.
Cowardice and lies were how the weak hid themselves. Lu Changyuan had no need for such things.
He tightened his grip on Broken Thought in a reverse hold, turned the tip of the sword, and without the slightest hesitation, stabbed at the draconic pupil staring back at him.
"Then again, rather than you giving it to me, I prefer to take it myself."
It was as if an ancient ballad had begun to play.
The sound of a stirring ancient instrument—a drum—suddenly rang out.
Beat by beat, it finally resounded in all directions.
WIND!
WIND!
Lu Changyuan’s eyes turned crimson. The blood from the dragon’s eye fell upon his body, and from within the Sea of Blood, another draconic roar echoed.
A terrifying heat, enough to burn mountains and boil seas, suddenly erupted from the crimson ocean. Something seemed to be striding forth from the ancient distance.
BOOM!
The ground fractured.
The Blood Dragon emerged from the Sea of Blood, rising high into the sky. It swallowed the Blood Demon in one gulp and let out a mighty roar!
Black and red stood in opposition, like two kings at war.
The Blood Dragon roared, its sound waves causing space itself to tremble.
The Blood Dragon’s body was not an incarnation of Lu Changyuan; it was formed by coalescing blood-qi. This made it different from the Black Dragon. Any injuries the Black Dragon sustained were reflected on the Blood Demon Lord himself, but injuries to the Blood Dragon would not affect Lu Changyuan.
Lu Changyuan felt as if he were piloting one of the mechanical constructs from the Lu Ban Palace. It was incredibly interesting.
"Let’s see what you’ve got," he said with a smirk.
The Blood Dragon charged forward, slamming into its opponent with brute force.
The dull thud of the impact was like the sound of a mountain shattering. The Black Dragon reacted with incredible speed, its sharp claws leaving several scorching gashes on the Blood Dragon’s body, deep enough to expose bone.
But in the next instant, the Blood Dragon’s tail whipped through the air and pierced its flesh.
Scales shattered, and flesh mixed with dark Dragon Blood was brutally torn away. The Black Dragon let out a low, repressed roar that erupted from the depths of its chest. Its massive body writhed in agony as it whipped its head around, its giant maw snapping viciously at the Blood Dragon’s limb gripping its back.
The two dragons began to brawl, the force of their clash threatening to utterly destroy the island. On the Inner Island of Blood Demon Island, the Grand Array fractured like Glazed glass, the cracks spreading until it finally collapsed with a deafening crash.
Amidst the lightning and thunder in the sky, the waves around Blood Demon Island swelled into a man-eating tsunami that threatened to swallow everything.
Lu Changyuan felt no pity for the destruction. He couldn’t take the Blood Dragon’s body with him anyway, so it didn’t matter if it was destroyed. Thus, he fought with even greater abandon.
The Blood Demon Lord, however, was in a different situation.
He had already gone through a major battle with the Evil Buddha and then had taken a sword strike from Jiang Jiayi head-on. His condition was already terrible.
’Where in the world did this other dragon come from?!’
The Black Dragon’s eyes were filled with disbelief, but Lu Changyuan gave it no time to think, slamming into it viciously once more.
’I can’t let this go on.’
The Blood Demon Lord realized that trading blows with Lu Changyuan was extremely unwise. Jiang Jiayi’s sword strike had already damaged his Origin, and his body could not withstand any more injuries.
High in the Celestial Vault, the bloody star suddenly erupted with a boundless crimson light, dyeing the entire night sky scarlet.
"I don’t know who you are, but don’t forget, this is the Blood Demon Palace! It’s not a place where you can run wild as you please!"
The star fell.
It completely swallowed both dragons.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Black Skirt Fairy stood on a piece of wood, drifting on the surface of the sea.
The flickering, bloody firelight from the surroundings reflected on the hem of her skirt, further accentuating her snow-white skin. The young woman’s figure was as captivating as a beautiful jasmine flower blooming from a bed of blood and flesh.
