Are There Only Demonesses Left in the Cultivation Realm?
Chapter 142 - 113: The Descent of the Celestial Dao Title
Chapter 142: Chapter 113: The Descent of the Celestial Dao Title
The reason the Human Race chose to gather here at that time was its secrecy, but they never expected to be discovered.
Lu Changyuan asked doubtfully, "Can we kill it?"
Red Fox arched an eyebrow, chuckling coquettishly. "Most likely. That thing isn’t whole yet, but killing it shouldn’t be a problem."
’What’s with all the mystery?’
Lu Changyuan felt a strong sense of déjà vu from Red Fox’s personality.
Red Fox raised her hand, and Long Mountain Peak began to slowly slide away, like a lid being lifted. A massive altar was revealed, and in its center, a giant character for "Netherworld" was inscribed.
The character was just as ancient and profound as the one Lu Changyuan had seen in the Netherworld.
The Netherworld had two such characters: one marked the final destination of the Nether River, and the other was a stele that the river flowed past, symbolizing the Nether Monarch’s authority.
That raised a question.
’What is this third ’Netherworld’ character here for?’
Lu Changyuan would soon find out.
CLANG!
The familiar toll of a bell echoed once more.
Illusory forms began to generate upon the ’Netherworld’ character. Looking closely, Lu Changyuan saw they were Spirits, one after another. But these Spirits didn’t transform into ambulatory Thoughts; instead, they became droplets of water.
Red Fox twitched her ears. "The Spirit Race generally disdains collecting the Thoughts of the Human Race, but the Nether Monarch has spent years gathering the Thoughts of countless deceased humans, converging them into a river to use for Entering the Dao."
’So the Nether River was originally formed from the Thoughts of the ancient people?’
’No wonder you can see your own Dao reflected in the Nether River.’
It contained all the paths the Human Race had ever attempted. No human had yet broken through the Fifth Realm to Enter the Dao, so the Thoughts left behind by those from the Fourth Realm after their deaths flowed into the Nether River. Anyone who gazed into its waters could benefit, as long as their own experiences resonated with the Thoughts held within.
In the midst of these thoughts...
BOOM!
The river, which seemed to roar through heaven and earth, surged forth from the ’Netherworld’ character, then plummeted violently toward the Blood Demon now at the foot of the mountain.
Red Fox let out a tiny yawn, her tail swaying gently. "The Blood Demon is an amalgamation of blood. One good rinse with this Nether River, full of Nether Qi, and there should be nothing left of it."
Lu Changyuan watched as the vast river crashed violently into the Blood Demon. The destructive power of the Thoughts within seemed intent on sweeping everything away. Chunks of blood peeled off the Blood Demon’s body as its shrill screams echoed without end.
The Blood Demon’s Realm was even dropping.
It fell bit by bit from its initial Peak of the Sixth Realm. Everything it had devoured was purged by the Nether River, until it could barely maintain its hold on the Sixth Realm.
Red Fox raised her bow again. "Now’s the time to kill it."
An immense brilliance once again shrouded the bow. That flowing light followed the arrow and blew the Blood Demon’s body apart yet again.
The scattering blood looked like fireworks blooming in the sky.
"And that’s that." Red Fox dusted off her hands, her eyes crinkling into a smile. "Easy peasy."
’The Blood Demon is dead?’
’Just like that?’
Lu Changyuan’s brow remained furrowed. He remembered that the Blood Demon, one of the Three Thousand Great Demons, hadn’t died. It had been sealed.
’If this time and space is the past, then the Blood Demon couldn’t have died from Red Fox’s arrow and the Nether River’s assault. It must have survived somehow.’
’Did it escape?’
"The rain stopped?"
Lu Changyuan looked to the sky and held out his hand. No rain fell on it. At some point, the downpour that had stretched for who-knew-how-many thousands of miles had ceased, and stars appeared in the night sky.
’Stars?’
Lu Changyuan stared at the sky in disbelief. A single, impossibly bright star was twinkling there.
He turned his head and saw that Red Fox’s fur was standing on end. The sleek fur of her large tail had bristled in alarm.
A terrible premonition filled both their hearts.
Red Fox murmured, "What happened?"
"You’re asking me?"
Lu Changyuan didn’t know what was happening, but he had a dreadful feeling.
"Quick! Kill it!"
Without another word, Red Fox drew her bow again, blasting a massive crater where the Blood Demon had been.
The star in the sky remained bright, and at the very moment Red Fox’s arrow struck, it began to fall.
’A star is falling?’
’Even I’m seeing this for the first time. A scene like this has never happened in the Cultivation Realm. The only connection between mortals and stars is when someone ascends to Yao Guang to light their own... their own star?’
"A Celestial Dao Title!?"
’I’ve wondered for so long what a Celestial Dao Title was. Obtaining one lets you enter Yao Guang, but what kind of miraculous thing is it?’
In that instant, his question was answered.
A Celestial Dao Title is a star. A star is a Dao. In the later Cultivation Realm, one must light their own Dao Star to ascend to Yao Guang. But in the Cultivation Realm of Ancient Times, the Celestial Dao itself bestowed a Dao Star upon the strongest member of a race. If one could bear this great Dao, they could ascend to Yao Guang.
Lu Changyuan felt his breath catch in his throat.
"Quick, stop it!"
But it was too late.
The star merged with the fragments of the Blood Demon at an unbelievable speed. An aura that could sweep across the world erupted from the ground.
’The Nether Monarch said the Celestial Dao Titles were about to descend. But why now? And why, of all things, on the Blood Demon?’
Lu Changyuan whirled around. "What about your Title and hers?"
’If the Titles are descending, then the ones for the Nether Monarch and Red Fox should be as well. Why has only the Blood Demon’s fallen?’
Red Fox explained hastily, "Even if they’re all descending, there’s an order to it! The Blood Race only has that one thing left, so of course the Celestial Dao would find it easily and bestow its Title first."
In other words...
’The Celestial Dao’s bestowment of a Title is a mechanical process. First, it finds a race, then it seeks out the strongest individual within it. If a race has two powerful contenders, they must battle until only one remains. After that comes the final judgment: determining whether the victor can bear the Title.’
’The Blood Race only has this one monster left. The Celestial Dao found it effortlessly, skipped the entire comparison process, judged it capable of bearing the Title, and sent it down.’
’Right now, the Blood Demon hasn’t devoured the Nether Monarch, so its Magic is incomplete. In the future, this imperfection would prevent it from Entering the Dao, forcing it to wait bitterly for an opportunity, just like Xiao Qingfeng.’
’But things are different now. In this era, Entering Yao Guang depends on a Celestial Dao Title. So, even though the Blood Demon’s Magic is incomplete, it has used the Celestial Dao’s Title to forcibly Enter the Dao.’
’At the same time, I realized why none of the races hunting the Nether Monarch along the way had a Sixth Realm expert among them. Even the Snow Demon King was only lured out by chance at Lu Li Snow Mountain.’
’Those in the Sixth Realm are all waiting quietly for their Celestial Dao Titles to descend, trying to avoid any complications.’
’The Nether Monarch and Red Fox must have planned to do the same thing: wait on Long Mountain to Enter the Dao.’
In the chilling wind, golden words appeared in Lu Changyuan’s left eye.
[The Blood Demon has been unleashed]
