Arceus's Pirate Journey
Chapter 1169: Arbitrage Middleman, Changing Food Chain
Chapter 1169 -1151: Arbitrage Middleman, Changing Food Chain
“Roar?”
Wailmer looked at Nami skeptically, seemingly thinking she was a huge deceit, and Pokemon were not easy to deceive. Nami’s current behavior was akin to wanting to empty-handedly capture the white wolf.
Having seen nothing, it decided not to stay in such a place, but it didn’t leave right away either.
Wailmer are generally social creatures, and this lone Wailmer acting independently was already considered quite distinctive behavior, which is why it made a gesture to Nami.
Given Wailmer’s size, the motion was more like simply swinging a fin, but being a seasoned money lover, Nami understood the meaning behind the gesture.
“You mean…these aren’t enough?”
Wailmer nodded and then started listing more conditions.
[Independent Water Park]
[Double Food]
[Massage Service]
Wailmer could list a long string of items.
“You’re really not shy at all, might as well call you a greedy little devil… Hold on, I can understand what you mean?”
Nami suddenly realized she had grasped the keywords of the Wailmer’s speech.
Pokemon language is universal; Nami could communicate with those two Heracross, and even facing this unfamiliar Wailmer, she could guess somewhat accurately.
Though not as clear as with Heracross, a lot was still vague, but several nouns were enough.
Yet when Nami discovered this issue, many things started to appear odd; whales and rhinoceroses, these two species don’t seem to have any connection at all.
But in reality, it told her there must be some mysterious link between the two species, as to what exactly…
That’s not her concern; there are too many mysterious things at sea, and to make everything crystal clear is something one couldn’t achieve even in a lifetime.
For her now, being able to explore a bit of weather change is already enough.
“Hey! What are you guys still doing! Pulling whiskers isn’t useful, hurry and catch empty fish!”
After reaching a series of agreements with Wailmer, Nami instantly showcased her change of face upon turning around; without even thinking about Wailmer’s conditions, she directly agreed to them, anyway, it’s the meteorologists of Savilia who would execute them in the end.
To research this mysterious weather cause, these scholars can only compromise; Wailmer is the only client and needs to be coaxed.
But this group of old-timers behind her is different; they’re labor force that could be exploited, as a money-lover, Nami was adept at setting conditions and knew how to maximize benefits.
She had the experience of communicating with Heracross and could be a decent translator, but these meteorologists were different; temporarily, she was an irreplaceable intermediary.
“Huh?”
“Huh what huh, I’ve already negotiated with it, board and lodging, it will cooperate with your weather research, hurry and turn that place into a reservoir! Aren’t there lots of tools on the island?”
“You few go catch fish, you go prepare the venue, oh, and also hand over the funding earned from the recent weather change to it; I’ll temporarily keep it for safekeeping.”
“Alright… Wait, funding? Is that also the whale’s meaning?”
Their passion for meteorology made these scholars act without thinking, they certainly weren’t unskilled individuals living off-hand, maintaining the necessities for life by themselves, fishing and house building weren’t difficult tasks.
But their minds hadn’t turned off yet; demands for food and housing from a whale were understandable and reasonable, but what use would a whale have for money?
There’s a Dragon Palace Kingdom undersea, but no matter what, a whale would not need money to obtain its things, that’s clearly Nami trying to set a trap.
“Ah! Discovered already? Then never mind, anyhow, hurry and get the other stuff ready!”
Nami waved fiercely, instantly glossing over what had just occurred, showcasing her personality as dynamic as Vesperia’s weather, refreshing the scholars’ understanding of her quick change of face.
In truth, these scholars only guessed half correctly; in the split second just now, Nami indeed considered taking the opportunity to collect some money, but these Wailmer genuinely had a chance to spend it.
In Wano Kuni, the situation there is somewhat special; instances of Pokemon hiring humans with money are not uncommon.
Those laboring Pokemon indeed had salaries; they would purchase what they desired, if there’s no money, pure material exchanges in Wano Kuni were also quite common.
Tsareena exchanged bathwater for Miltank milk, Alcremie used cream to trade honey with Vespiquen, Bisharp bought whetstones, Tinkaton shopped for metals in stores, similar occurrences were frequent.
However, such affairs, in a short span, would remain largely unknown externally.
…
On the Boeing Islands, the fat on Usopp had transformed into muscle after prolonged training.
Usopp still maintained a normal human physique, but the muscular lines made him significantly stronger.
Upon arriving at Boeing Islands initially, he couldn’t defeat any creatures on the island, whether giant insects or carnivorous plants, they could completely overwhelm him.
After this period of training, under Heracles’ guidance, he developed the capacity to resist.
The seeds of various peculiar plants became his new ammunition, and he acquired a brand new slingshot as a weapon.
Meanwhile, the island’s ecosystem unintentionally underwent transformations.
The island itself was alive.
Boeing Islands appeared as a cluster of islands, but actually, they were several carnivorous plants referred to scientifically as Stomach Baron floating on the sea.
Stomach Baron, commonly known as Baron of the Stomach, uses the island’s unique food to lure Sea Beasts, Sea King Types.
The center of the island is the mouth of Baron of the Stomach; as soon as the petals close, it can prey on all creatures on the island and subsequently utilize these nutrients to generate new bait, initiating the capture of yet more prey.
A unique ecosystem has long since formed here; some insects settled here using their own capabilities, such as flying, consistently evading Baron of the Stomach’s attacks.
In recent years, the Stomach Baron was the undisputed top of the food chain, but nowadays, the ruler of this island has changed.
Initially, the island attracted several Heracross, but they merely integrated into the local life; as the number of Bug-type Pokemon increased, changes ensued.
The Heracross residing here formed an alliance with the later-arriving Beautifly and Dustox; Dustox used its toxins to paralyze parts of Baron of the Stomach’s body, preventing those parts from closing.
Beautifly eliminated some faster-flying predators threatening the young ones, while Heracross cleared out a perilous forest, creating a permanent stronghold.
At the edge of their territory, Heracles arrived with a large sack of food from other regions; after some communication, the Heracross guarding the entrance allowed him passage.
“My dear student Usopp, you now possess adequate understanding of the island’s plants, and your body is no longer as frail as before, thus today, you’ll begin your graduation assessment, hmm.
I’ve discussed with them, your next goal is to successfully endure their attacks.”
Food remains a hard currency within the Pokemon world; it’s the sparring partner Heracles hired for Usopp.
Gazing at a group of splendidly adorned Beautifly, Usopp remained unaware of what awaited him…
