Chapter 1168 -1150: The Technology Path Changed by Pokemon

The whale-like creature is none other than the devolved form of a Wailord – a Wailmer.

The Wailords that were created back then weren’t just one, but a group. Besides the Wailord responsible for taking Shaina and Kuzan to Aeghede, the other individuals live in the sea.

Unlike Magikarp, they don’t have an exaggerated reproductive speed, so they are only present in small numbers across the Grand Line.

This Wailmer coming to Savilia was purely accidental.

Vesperia doesn’t just float with the wind. Through years of meteorological research, they have developed some weather-related tools, like large showers for creating thunderstorms and Wind Knots for controlling Vesperia’s position.

Not long ago, Vesperia floated near a sea of clouds that connects to the Blue Sea below, and this Wailmer flew up from it.

Yes, it flew, not swam.

As an eyewitness, Nami saw more clearly. Vesperia was at least dozens of meters away from that waterway, but this spherical whale dashed forward, flapping its fins frantically in mid-air, and ultimately flew over, just like flying.

It wasn’t true flying, more like a glide or leap after a running start, but with Wailmer’s shape, it really looked like flying.

Its purpose for doing this was purely to catch a school of aerial fish.

Nami initially thought this was a simpleton like Luffy, being a fish that jumped out of the water for food onto land.

However, upon landing, Wailmer didn’t get stranded like an ordinary fish; its round body and the soft Island Cloud made its landing very smooth, and it even bounced up like a rubber ball.

This is a trait of Wailmer; once it stores seawater inside its body, it becomes bouncy like a ball and can spring up from the ground, with the height proportionate to the amount of water stored.

Pokemon become stronger through evolution, but without evolving, they may possess some unique traits, and Wailmer’s bouncing ability is one of them, related to their past.

Creatures evolve, and Pokemon are no exception. This evolution isn’t just about form changes.

It’s the evolution of creatures.

In ancient times, some Pokémon had entirely different forms.

Most creatures evolved from ocean to land, but Wailmer was different, moving from land to the sea.

Scholars in the Pokemon World believe Wailmer and whales share a common ancestor, which were once land-dwelling species, but Wailmer’s ancestors eventually entered the sea.

As they were once terrestrial, Wailmer retained some ancient abilities despite primarily living in the sea, although becoming dry makes them listless.

On the beach, you can see groups of Wailmer jumping together.

Wailmer’s harmless expression made Nami find it amusing, so she poked its round body, and in return, got sprayed with seawater.

“Ah! These are my freshly changed clothes!”

She didn’t expect Wailmer to do such a thing, which is also a way it intimidates others, besides warning enemies, it intentionally scares other Pokémon or people; their nature is like that.

“Oh oh oh~”

“You’re laughing! You did that on purpose!”

Having been suddenly sprayed in the face with seawater, Nami instinctively gave a shout.

Then, Wailmer’s strange behavior made her realize it was mocking her, immediately turning fierce.

This also caught the attention of other meteorologists on the island.

At this moment, Wailmer seemed to have sprayed too much seawater, leading to insufficient water storage inside.

The high altitude quickly dried its surface, making it uncomfortable.

Under Nami’s puzzled gaze, it began howling towards the sky, accompanied by bursts of whale cries, then as if on cue, rain began to fall, and Wailmer gleefully bounced in the rain.

“Did… did it just start raining?”

Raising her arm, looking at the water droplets on it, Nami’s mind began to race.

She is very sensitive to weather changes; besides observing celestial changes, she can predict special circumstances through sensing the wind and humidity.

Before Wailmer used Rain Dance, she didn’t sense any signs of impending rain.

Wet clothes from the rain aren’t much of a deal, but the meteorologists living in Vesperia entered a state of turmoil.

Vesperia’s weather could be artificially controlled, their years of weather study aimed at this; whether it’s artificial rain or dispersing rain clouds, or providing wind, are all ways they earn a living.

At that moment, their instruments were still operating; theoretically, Vesperia shouldn’t rain, yet it happened unexpectedly.

The abilities of Pokémon defy logic, especially those acting as weather setters, Nami had only encountered Heracross before, Bug Types rarely trained this capability, and none of those Heracross had Rain Dance.

“Why is it raining? The instrument’s data has no problem!”

“All instruments are functioning normally, have we failed…”

The researchers in Vesperia are on average quite old, having spent a lifetime of effort here, with existing information ingrained in their bones.

Wailmer’s behavior could be said to disrupt their research ideas, after all, they are unscientific beings.

Caesar’s researched toxins can’t compare to Muk and Weezing’s self-produced gases, Queen’s cultivated fruit can’t compare with the crystallization on Pokemon like Tropius.

Even Vegapunk’s ambition to study eternal energy seems naive next to Electivire’s terrifying electricity output.

As Pokémon gradually integrate into this world, many existing technologies will undergo huge transformations, Vesperia may just be the beginning, but it surely won’t be the end.

Wailmer’s beady eyes turned into straight lines; those crazy old folks made it feel this place was dangerous, so it hopped towards the sea cloud path.

Having heard that staying with fools for too long makes one silly, it didn’t want to become strange.

“Wait!”

Seeing Wailmer about to hop away, Nami hurriedly called it.

“?”

“You like eating these aerial fish, right? Stay here for a while, you don’t have to do anything, just call a few times each day, and fish will be delivered to you. You can understand me, right?”

It’s not just the old folks who are interested in meteorology; she stayed here to study meteorological knowledge, New World’s weather isn’t easy to overcome, and Wailmer’s behavior piqued her curiosity.

Judging from its mischievous behavior earlier, this odd whale has quite a high intelligence, reminding her of the two Heracross back home, which is why she offered her “salary.”
