As long as his wife was within his sight, nothing else mattered. The two of them were so engrossed in looking at the child in their arms that they did not notice the three snakes that were hiding in the corner. The three of them looked at their mother, who was settled well after drinking milk and immediately turned calm as well; they closed their eyes and went to sleep. They might be mutated snakes, but they were still babies.

"Why are his lips blue?" Lei Qian asked with a frown when he noticed the changes in his son. Now that Little Cai had finished eating his meal and was silently resting in the arms of his mother, Lei Qian was able to see his pale blue lips.

However, as soon as he finished speaking, Bai Meiyue turned to look at the man. Though she did not say anything, the gaze with which she looked at him was enough to make the man feel guilty. Lei Qian lowered his head like a child who had committed a crime and said, "I...I did not leave him alone willingly; there was no one to help me out, and he was crying so much. The nurses failed me at a crucial moment. What could I do? And when I saw him, I swear he was fine. He was pink and tender. His mouth was not like this at all... Don’t look at me like that; I will go and call Doctor Shen."

Having finished speaking, Lei Qian got up and hurried to find Shen Zhen. As he hurried out, Bai Meiyue looked down at her son. The boy looked tender and cute as he did in her past life; the only difference was that his lips were pale blue. Though it was quite peculiar, her son was fine. Something told her that everything would be fine.

It should not be a big problem.

After a while, Doctor Shen was summoned by Lei Qian. She was holding a stethoscope in her hands when she heard that something had happened to Bai Meiyue’s son; she came running. She looked at Bai Cai and then started testing him. She took his pulse, then checked his heartbeat and then examined Xiao Cai’s body. Shen Zhen noticed that there was something amiss with Bai Cai. The signs all told her that the boy was poisoned, but at the same time he was perfectly fine.

So he was perfectly fine, but he was poisoned?

"Everything is normal...his vital signs are also normal. Generally speaking, we have no way to find out what happened to him all of a sudden. Why don’t I take him and do a blood test first? If we cannot find anything even in that...then we will do a newborn screening."

That was the only thing they could do. Usually, if the child’s lips turned blue, it meant that there was something wrong with him or her. But Shen Zhen had tested the boy again and again. There was nothing wrong with him. His breathing was normal, and his heartbeat was also normal. There was nothing amiss with him.

Bai Meiyue wanted to refuse, saying that there was no need. Her son was just born; there was no need for him to go through so many tests, but before she could say anything, Lei Qian spoke up, "Sure, we will do the tests. It is better to be safe than sorry."

That made her swallow her words. Indeed, it was better to be safe than sorry. She might as well go ahead and do the tests to make sure that there was nothing wrong with her son.

Soon, the tests were run and Xiao Cai even went through the newborn screening but the result was just as the one earlier. There was nothing wrong with the child. He was perfectly normal.

Even the blood test that was run did not show any peculiarity. There were no signs of toxins in Xiao Cai’s bloodstream. What was more, as time slowly passed, nothing happened to Xiao Cai; even the blue lips of his changed and turned back to pink. After a joint comprehensive examination, there were no signs of cardiopulmonary dysfunction, jaundice, hearing loss, or vision loss.

"Don’t worry, your child is perfectly healthy."

Shen Zhen handed the test results to Lei Qian and then turned her attention to Xiao Cai in Bai Meiyue’s arms. As soon as her fingers touched his squishy cheeks, the little one turned around in his mother’s arms, smacked his lips a few times and then yawned before closing his eyes again. It was such a sweet sight that Shen Zhen, who said that she did not like children, ended up smiling. She raised her head and patted Bai Meiyue on the back of her hand. "There is no need to worry; your child is perfectly alright."

"Thank you for your help."

Bai Meiyue smiled and thanked Shen Zhen. She then took her son out of the clinic while Lei Qian supported her from the side.

"Where are we going?" She asked. Bai Meiyue wanted to go back to her mansion, but something told her that it would be quite impossible, and sure enough. The thing that she was worried about the most came true at once when she noticed the guilty look in the eyes of Lei Qian.

"I am sorry, but I am afraid that we will have to look for a new place to live," said Lei Qian as he looked everywhere but at Bai Meiyue.

"Why?" Bai Meiyue could not help but question with a frown. She had prepared everything for her son at her mansion, including a nursery. If she went to live somewhere else, what about the nursery?

"Because it was blown up by me." Lei Qian touched his nose in an even guiltier tone. He knew that Bai Meiyue had prepared a nursery for their son in the mansion where she lived. And now that the mansion had been blown up, the nursery was gone as well.

Bai Meiyue: ".."
