"It’s not all bad news." Teresa said and Alex glanced at her with his eyebrows raised.

"The tissue from the Stage IV mutated toad helped a lot. The mutagen attached to it has become merged together with the original tissue of the mutated toad.

"It was as if the mutagen was part of it all along." Teresa added on and said.

"Interesting..." Alex frowned when he heard what Teresa had said.

Instead of calling it a mutagen, it was something that seemed to perfect the organisms to be a much more powerful version of what they were.

And this included Awakened like him.

It was like an accelerated form of evolution between the mutated beasts, Awakened and those who had consumed the meat of the mutated beasts.

He wasn’t sure if the Awakened would be able to be the last ones standing when the evolution reached its end, he could only make sure that he and his friends would be among the last ones standing.

"Thanks for all the information.

"If you ever need anything to help with your research, please let me know.

"I will be venturing into the city tomorrow. I can try to grab whatever you need from the bio-science companies if you need something." He thanked Teresa and offered her help.

Teresa shook her head and replied, "I have everything I need for now."

She bid him farewell and went back to her research.

Alex finished up with the vehicle check and he got back to his room while he thought about what Teresa had said.

He figured that if the authorities were able to come up with something that had no side effect but was able to let anyone become an Awakened with it, that meant that the authorities would be able to manufacture people like him as much as they wished.

They were also speed running this evolution to its end in their own ways.

For everyone else who didn’t have the access or the prerequisite to become one of the awakened, life would definitely be worse and miserable than what it was now.

Their lives would depend on the mercy of the authorities.

And from what he had seen and heard at the quarantine center, it was a grim future for them.

As for him, he would have to be on the lookout for any information on the syringe when he encounters the soldiers next time.

He had dinner with his friends and when the clock struck midnight, a familiar sound erupted in his mind.

[Ding!]

[The next SSS Ability granted to you is the SSS Necromancer Ability.]

[This ability allows you to resurrect the dead and control them using your energy.]

[You can control up to 50 dead beings at a time.]

[You will have this ability for 1 day and if you can kill off 200 enemies within these 3 days, you get to keep the Ability.]

[If you can’t achieve it, you wouldn’t be able to keep the ability when the day is over.]

[Current status: 0/200]

[Day 1 of 3 for SSS Necromancer Ability.]

Alex frowned when he saw what the new ability was and how many kills he had to reach the objective to keep it permanently.

He would have had the chance to resurrect the Stage IV mutated toad with this ability if it had come earlier.

But now, he would have to try his luck to be able to encounter one.

Thankfully, there were 3 days for him to reach the 200 kills to keep it permanently.

He sighed when he thought about how useful this ability would be.

It would come in handy when he needed someone to venture into unchartered territory or some sacrificial lambs.

And if his undead army was made up of high-level Awakened or Stage IV mutated beasts, he would be pretty much invincible against any other Awakened.

Even now, he was already pretty much unstoppable with his few abilities but he wouldn’t mind being even more powerful than he was now.

With these thoughts in mind, he was eager to get into the city the next day to kill and increase his chances of keeping the ability permanently.

Alex prepared for the trip the next day with his friends, asking them to help replenish their abilities into his storage portal.

He also put in as much lightning web, pillars of lightning and lightning prison as he could with whatever energy he had.

After he was done with this, he and his friends went to bed.

...

When it was morning, Alex had a quick breakfast with his friends and they left the compounds of the hydroelectric dam afterwards on one of the vehicles.

It was like old times with only his friends around and Alex appreciated being on the trip with only them around.

He preferred it this way.

Having the other students and people like Teresa, who was crucial to get to the answer for the apocalypse, around with him on the last trip, made it stressful even for him.

Their car got out of the hydroelectric dam under the watching eyes of those who were in their positions guarding the whole compound with the automatic grenade launchers and machine guns.

The observation points that Terry created were also in operation with guards that were allocated by Eddy.

As long as everyone played their part and did not slip up, life in the hydroelectric dam was stabilizing and with the crop harvest from Patricia’s team, things were moving in the positive direction.

Since they weren’t running away from the soldiers of the Elite Awakened Special Ops Unit anymore, they didn’t have to take the route across the canyon and dry lands again.

The highway to the city was much faster, so they took it this time instead.

Vroom.

The engine of the car roared when Riley turned the steering wheel for the car to leave the dirt road and turn into the highway entrance on the left.

Once they got onto it, Riley stepped on the accelerator pedal when he saw the coast was clear.
