Apocalypse: My SSS Ability Changes Every Few Days
Chapter 62: Decisions
Alex wasn’t too sure himself.
He figured that it might be possible for him to store something as big as a twenty story building into his storage space, but it might exhaust much of his energy after he did that.
"I’m not sure but I’m definitely getting stronger with killing more of the mutated beasts." Alex replied and the others nodded their heads to it.
They were also feeling stronger after getting rid of the mutated bear and deer earlier.
All of them got to work, carrying the bodies of the men, women and kids together into a pile.
That was then when Terry saw some bodies that were familiar.
It was the group of students that had left the college campus instead of joining Alex and his friends like what David had done.
Alex and the others came over and shook their heads when they saw the familiar bodies.
One thing sank in for them.
In these times, a wrong decision could lead you to an unfortunate end.
After they were done piling up all of the bodies, Brian used his ability and lit them up in flames.
It was the best that they could do for them.
Much better to be turned into ashes than being left out here to rot. Alex thought as he got back to the car.
Riley and the others joined him and their car drove off from the gas station.
On the way back, all of them were quiet while they glanced at the scenery that passed by outside the car windows.
An odd sense of comfort came into them, when they saw the familiar sight of the college campus enter their view.
It wasn’t a safe haven but it was the closest thing they had to it right now.
Most of the mutated beasts within the compound were killed by them and they were able to have food and water thanks to Alex’s ability.
Others would give up anything they had to have such an opportunity.
The only other alternative was the quarantine area.
Alex didn’t know what would happen to the nurse they’d met earlier.
He could only wish them the best after they arrived safely.
But he didn’t have high hopes for what would happen in the quarantine area.
"They are back!" Someone that was manning the machine guns and automatic grenade launchers mounted on the platforms, at the top of the wall, shouted when they saw Alex and the others approaching.
Everyone else on the platform popped their heads out to have a look and they waved at Alex and the others enthusiastically.
All of them felt safer with Alex and his friends around.
Other than that, they were also eager to find out what was happening outside.
After the mobile and internet were out, they weren’t able to have any update on the news anymore.
Alex and his friends got through the gates of the metallic walls and they were greeted by all of the others from inside the dorm building.
"How is it outside?"
"Is it safe? Is there anyone else out there?"
"What about the authorities? Did you see any of them?"
Eddy, Lin, David and Patricia tried to usher all of the students away from Alex and his friends but there were too many of them and they were anxious to find out.
"Alright, I’ll let you know what we saw outside." Alex raised his voice and the others clamoring to know kept quiet immediately.
"First of all, things aren’t any different from what was happening here.
"We had to deal with mutated beasts along the way and one of them was much more difficult than the ones we had encountered here in the college campus."
The others gasped and the gleam in their eyes went away.
All of them had hoped that things were different on the outside and they would be able to get out of the situation they were in right at the moment.
But it was not to be, and they would have to endure what was happening now, in the forseeable future.
Alex saw their expressions but he continued.
"We met someone on the way and she told us that there were pamphlets air dropped to her with information about a quarantine area at the pier.
"She was, in fact, on her way there when we met her."
He took out the pamphlet and handed it over to Eddy.
Eddy and the other Awakened read what was written on it and their expressions changed into a frown.
They too considered the fact that they were much different from an average person now.
The plausible scenario of them being in confinement and experimented on was something that had come into their mind.
However, it was different for the others.
Information about the quarantine area got the others very excited and they started chattering among themselves about it.
"The pier is at least 20 kilometers away. How can we reach it?"
"I’m not too sure, but it would be worth a try for it."
"I can’t wait to be able to sleep soundly and be well fed like the good old days."
"Y’all are getting ahead of yourselves. They didn’t care about you being homeless and hungry back then, why would it be any different now?"
Some of them leaned towards going to the quarantine area while some of them were skeptical about it like Alex and the other Awakened.
They even argued with each other on whether they should make the trip to the quarantine area.
But the argument died down quickly.
At the end of it all, they knew that their chances of making it alive to the quarantine area were slim without the Awakened like Alex and the others protecting them.
All of them glanced over at Alex to see what his view was on the quarantine area.
Alex gave out a sigh, and shook his head at them.
"We aren’t too sure we can trust the authorities right now.
"After the apocalypse happened they were just too quiet about it.
"Those of you who want to leave are free to do so, but I think that it’s best if we can gather more information about the quarantine area first.
"And in the meantime, we better carry on with what we had been doing."
