Apocalypse: Master of Soul Beasts
Chapter 1219 - 173: In Deep
What seemed like a road was actually a pipeline.
Through a glimpse inside the pipe, Wen Yu could imagine the length of this pipeline. It split into three main branches, with three streams of energy orderly transmitted into the depths of Demon Palace Basement Level 999. As for whether the pipeline on the far left, which transported Origin Energy, led to the Origin Pool, Wen Yu was not sure.
Currently, Wen Yu and Bai could only proceed cautiously. Fortunately, the anticipated pursuers had not appeared, and there were no enemies in sight. Overall, as Bai’s plan reached its final stage, everything remained under their control.
The party followed the pipeline, unaware of how long they progressed, until the sound of wind whooshing past reached their ears. Wen Yu and Bai exchanged glances and immediately quickened their pace. Soon, they reached the end of the pipeline.
At the end was a dark cave, but no, it should not be called a cave. This was originally supposed to be an entrance passage to a building. However, due to years of neglect, the signs, patterns, and carvings on what was once the entrance passage had completely corroded away, rendering them unrecognizable. Wen Yu’s brief observation revealed that the material used for this entrance should be the same as that of the pipes. At the same time, as the pipeline extended into the cave, transporting Origin Energy inward, Wen Yu could even sense a bit of Origin Energy mixed in the wind, blowing out from the mouth of the cave and drifting into the distance, its whereabouts unknown.
This entrance clearly had a problem. At least one percent of the Origin Energy transmitted through the pipeline leaked out from the entrance. Although the proportion wasn’t high, Origin Energy was an incredibly precious resource. It’s not an exaggeration to say that, given the current state of the Demon Realm, even if the amount of Origin Energy leaked in a single day wasn’t significant, over the years... the loss would be a heart-wrenching number for anyone!
Moreover, this was just one entrance—one entrance corresponding to one pipeline. According to Wen Yu’s guess, there should be many such pipelines on Demon Palace Basement Level 999.
If every entrance was continuously leaking Origin Energy like this... just the thought made Wen Yu clench uncomfortably.
Wen Yu didn’t know whether this was an isolated incident or a widespread issue. However, given the situation of this passage now, with no one from the Demon Palace sent to inspect or repair it, there were clearly some problems here.
While Wen Yu pondered over these chaotic thoughts, Bai was already impatient beside him, directing Ye Nan to move ahead, then nudged Wen Yu.
"What are you thinking about? Hurry up!"
Bai’s tone was urgent, while Wen Yu shook his head, "I’m just wondering what the Demon Lord was thinking..."
The Demon Lord had no reason to ignore the situation here.
But then Wen Yu snapped back to reality—what was he worrying about in the first place...
...
As the group ventured deeper into the entrance, gradually, the surrounding light dimmed.
On the pipeline, there were "Stars" twinkling like from a night sky, serving as light sources. However, here, there was no trace of brightness at all—it couldn’t even be described as pitch-black; it seemed as if a sort of restriction was absorbing all the light completely. At the same time, those who entered here found their perception ability suppressed. Even someone like Wen Yu could only extend his perception to a hundred meters, and as for Bai, this guy was clutching Wen Yu’s sleeve, stumbling along with him—he couldn’t even see the path underfoot.
From the front came the sound of "thump, thump," where Ye Nan, under Bai’s direction, kept bumping into the walls. Fortunately, this place wasn’t like the pipeline, where both sides were emptiness. It had walls, but the walls were made of material similar to the pipeline—dense, firm, and crucially, capable of isolating any perception ability.
For a time, Wen Yu and Bai felt like sardines trapped in a can, lost and clueless.
No one could tell how long this passage was. They had groped their way through the darkness for about ten minutes when suddenly there arose slight noises ahead.
"Whoosh~~~"
"Whoosh~~~"
It was as if sharp arrows were darting through. As soon as this sound echoed, within Wen Yu’s perception range, a dozen or so spindle-shaped black objects swiftly appeared. They glided through the air like swordfish swimming in the deep sea. At this moment, Ye Nan once again collided with the wall, making a crisp "thud."
In an instant, these spindle-shaped objects seemed to have found their prey, collectively turning to aim their sharp tips at Ye Nan. In the next second, these spindle-shaped objects shot towards Ye Nan like arrows!
Everything happened so fast; as soon as the "whoosh, whoosh" sounds began, these strange objects appeared within the perception range, and following Ye Nan’s collision, they launched their assault—all in the blink of an eye, leaving Wen Yu with no time to warn!
The pitch-black light struck Ye Nan’s body with a speed almost like teleportation. However, the sight that appeared before their eyes was not dangerous at all...
They struck Ye Nan’s body forcefully, only to recoil as if hitting a city wall. Yet, the spindle-shaped objects seemed to possess a consciousness of their own; instead of retreating in face of the tough obstacle, they tenaciously charged on, creating a cacophony of "whoosh, whoosh, thud, thud" sounds.
Ye Nan’s conceptual undying body proved to be quite useful at times...
"What’s going on? What happened?"
The sound startled Bai, who clutched Wen Yu’s sleeve tightly, asking apprehensively. However, as Bai’s voice echoed into the distance, reverberating through the narrow passage, the next moment, the spindle-shaped objects seemed to have caught a new target.
Some of these spindle-shaped objects turned their heads directly towards the noise-making Bai, and in the next instant, black light shot out fiercely!
The black light was extremely fast, even Wen Yu found it hard to react in time. Yet, Wen Yu was unconcerned; he merely put up the Pitch-dark Screen to envelop himself, Faceless, and Bai. Then he watched these strange spindle-shaped objects expressionlessly.
The black light touched the Pitch-dark Screen instantly, and what happened next made Wen Yu’s eyes widen!
He had never calculated how strong the defense capabilities of the Pitch-dark Screen, structured on a foundation of superhuman physical qualities, could be. However, regarding Tang Haofei’s prowess in the second Sequence Member-Ranking Battle, even if Old Tang exhausted himself to the point of vomiting blood, there was no way he could pose any threat to the Pitch-dark Screen! But this time, Wen Yu failed...
The spindle-shaped objects pierced the Pitch-dark Screen like a sharp knife cutting through paper, puncturing it completely. They continued unimpeded, stabbing directly into the bodies of Wen Yu, Faceless, and Bai!
In an instant, blood splattered!
A dozen spindle-shaped objects directly pierced through the three of them!
In front of these bizarre things, the defense capabilities of Wen Yu’s Heaven-covering Robe, and the physical defense stemming from bodily qualities, were entirely ineffective!
