“Don’t—!!” Si Ruoqing’s eyes flew wide.

In the next instant, a blade-light flashed…

Blood sprayed.

An arm still gripping an axe thudded onto the floor.

Scarface stared at his own arm in disbelief, whipped around—and a figure appeared behind him without a sound.

“AH—urk!” Scarface’s scream cut off. Blood jetted. His head hit the ground.

“You—you—you!! How can you still be alive!!” Zhou Zhengyu and the other thugs stared at Xiao Yi, who had appeared again, in terror. The hands holding their weapons would not stop shaking. “What the hell are you?!”

Xiao Yi looked at these few people coldly, said nothing, lifted the modao, and walked slowly toward Zhou Zhengyu.

The thugs each gripped their weapons and slowly bunched together.

“Brothers! He’s only one man! There’s no way he’s a match for us!” Zhou Zhengyu suddenly roared, his face twisted. “Kill him and the women and the supplies here are all ours!”

“That’s right! Brothers! He’s only one man! Two fists can’t beat four hands! Still less when there are this many of us! All together, kill this kid!” another thug also roared, his face equally twisted.

“Young man, you shouldn’t have come back! There are too many of them. We can’t be a match.” A young wife said it to Si Ruoqing, her face full of despair.

“Xiao Yi! Careful! He has a crossbow!” Si Ruoqing also shouted at Xiao Yi, worried.

But Xiao Yi kept walking toward Zhou Zhengyu and the others as if he had not heard anything at all.

“Bastard! Stay the fuck there!” Zhou Zhengyu raised the crossbow, shaking, and roared at Xiao Yi. “One more step and I’ll shoot you de—”

He had not finished when Xiao Yi suddenly accelerated and charged up as a blur.

SHLICK. Zhou Zhengyu did not even get the chance to scream before Xiao Yi split him in two with one cut.

Blood splashed across Xiao Yi’s face and made him look even more savage and terrifying.

“We surrender! We surrender!” One thug had already pissed himself in fear. He threw his weapon down, dropped to his knees, and kowtowed at Xiao Yi with everything he had, begging.

The other thugs gave up resisting then as well. They dropped to their knees one after another and wailed for mercy.

“Please let us live! We’ll work like oxen and horses for you!”

“We were all forced by Scarface and Zhou Zhengyu! We’re willing to turn over a new leaf and throw in with you now!”

“We can go out and look for food! We can be your dogs! Please spare us!”

“Brother! This is the apocalypse. There aren’t many people left alive. We’re all human. We should help each other! You absolutely can’t slaughter innocents like this!”

Xiao Yi looked down at these people sideways. Some of them were pledging loyalty and playing pitiful, fishing for his sympathy.

Some of them were lecturing him, hoping Xiao Yi would spare them on the face of being fellow survivors.

“Xiao Yi, the ringleaders have already been killed. These people are only followers. If you go by national law, their crimes don’t warrant death. After all they’re only followers. They didn’t do anything. I say we let them go and leave them to fend for themselves.” Si Ruoqing walked to Xiao Yi’s side with her brows locked, unable to bear it.

“After all there aren’t many survivors left now. For the future of us humans…”

Si Ruoqing had not finished when Xiao Yi already raised the butcher’s blade and brought it down on the pack of thugs kneeling on the ground.

Nine heads hit the floor together. Blood splashed across Si Ruoqing’s face.

Xiao Yi turned his head and said coldly, “National law? What law? Who enforces these laws? You?”

Xiao Yi sneered and walked again to several middle-aged men who had not taken part in the riot.

The short man in front hurriedly crawled to Xiao Yi, nodding and bowing, and begged, shaking, “Benefactor! I didn’t take part in the riot! I’m a good citizen! I even tried to talk them down! Please spare us!”

The other two middle-aged men crawled up behind him and begged hard as well. “Benefactor! We were all forced! We didn’t join their riot! We’re willing to follow you and Officer Si! We can work for you!”

Xiao Yi’s hand rose and the blade fell. Three more heads rolled on the ground.

“This is the apocalypse! There is no law! There is no reason either! If there really is any law, then what I say is the law! What I do is reason!”

Xiao Yi turned his head and looked at Si Ruoqing. “I hope you can understand this. This is also the most important thing you have to remember if you want to live through this apocalypse!”

Si Ruoqing stared at Xiao Yi, blank. Her face went bloodless in an instant. Her eyes were full of complicated feeling.

Just then, the several women Xiao Yi had saved with that thunderous method all climbed up off the floor, crowded around him, and looked at him with worship.

“Big brother! You’re amazing! This many zombies, and you killed them all like it was nothing! Can you teach us to kill zombies?” The twin sisters came forward and gazed up at Xiao Yi in worship. Their eyes were full of simple admiration. They said it almost in unison.
