Apocalypse Descends: I Win Effortlessly by Turning Trash into Treasure
Chapter 385 Selection Game 15
Soon, he pointed to two of the plants and said, "These two can be used as food."
The plants the man pointed to were a sweet potato and edamame—in other words, immature soybeans.
But then he added, "They might be edible, but there will definitely be some side effects. As for what those side effects are..."
As he spoke, he looked toward the players who had grown these two plants.
The player who had grown the soybeans was a man, while the one who had grown the sweet potato was a woman.
The two of them grew a bit embarrassed under everyone’s gaze. The male player spoke up first. "My soybeans have an ability like landmines. Once they mature, the yellow beans scatter everywhere. If anyone steps on them, they explode."
After hearing his explanation, everyone turned to stare at the player who had just declared them edible. Their gazes seemed to ask, ’Didn’t you say these things were safe to eat? Are you trying to get us to eat bombs? What are you playing at?’
Seeing this, the man quickly explained, "They only turn into bombs after they’ve matured. Before that, the explosive power hasn’t formed yet, so of course they’re edible."
As he spoke, to prove his words were true, he actually picked an edamame pod and tossed it straight into his mouth.
With a faint CRACKLE, the man’s eyes lit up. "Wow, this is delicious! It’s crunchy, like it’s been roasted."
After swallowing what was in his mouth, he still wasn’t satisfied and ate several more. The look of pure enjoyment on his face finally convinced the others, and they all started to try them.
It turned out he was telling the truth. The stuff was actually quite good, tasting a bit like edamame that had been popped like popcorn.
As for the side effect... well, as everyone knows, eating too many beans can make you gassy. So when that man let out a long, loud, and stinky fart, everyone instantly understood what the side effect was.
Perry Yates impassively put down the edamame in her hand. ’Never mind. I’ll just stick to not eating mortal food. It’s actually better this way,’ she thought.
Dylan Adler also put the food back. ’Forget it. I still have some nutrient potions and Energy Bars left, plus the ones Perry Yates gave me. It should be enough to last until the game is over.’
Next, they turned their attention to the sweet potato.
This sweet potato didn’t taste like a normal one. It was actually spicy.
This was related to the sweet potato’s attack method.
After maturing, these sweet potatoes would automatically ignite when thrown, making them similar to incendiary bombs.
It was just odd that a card with what was clearly a Fire Attribute attack was purely a Wood Attribute card.
With the food issue temporarily resolved, Reina Quinn and the others discussed a plan. They divided all the players into groups: some were responsible for logistics, some for patrols, and others for exploring the surroundings to see if any other players were still alive and to search for more edible things.
To be fair, each team would rotate through these three tasks.
Perry Yates was assigned to an exploration team.
Since it was the first exploration mission, they picked a few of the strongest players to avoid being ambushed by an Executor.
Perry was about to say that she wasn’t strong at all, that she was just a tag-along and should be put in the logistics group. But on second thought, she realized no one would believe her, so she decided to just obediently go out and explore.
Besides Perry Yates, there were three other people with her this time.
Rory Drake, Croupier of Cerulea #68856; Jared Yate, Croupier of Cerulea #267383; and Miles Lynch, Croupier of Cerulea #99999.
Perry Yates stared at Jared Yate’s face, a little stunned.
His face was the spitting image of her own father’s when he was young. Even his name was practically the same.
If she couldn’t confirm that he didn’t recognize her, she would have started to wonder if her own father had traveled back from the past.
What she didn’t know was that it wasn’t just her who found Jared Yate familiar; he found her incredibly familiar as well.
This girl in front of him was the spitting image of his wife. Anyone who didn’t know better might have mistaken her for his daughter.
’But that’s impossible. I’m only twenty-five this year, and my child is still in my wife’s belly.’
’It must be a coincidence. After all, there are look-alikes in the same world. There must be in other worlds, too,’ he reasoned.
Jared Yate managed to calm himself with this reasoning, and the four of them set off to explore.
They called it "exploring," but it was really just circling the area around their base to see if any enemies were hiding.
"There’s nothing here but rocks. It’s not dangerous at all," Rory Drake said, looking bored out of his mind.
"Why don’t we expand our search area? Reina Quinn didn’t give us a return time anyway. Let’s head out a bit farther and see if we can find anything," Jared Yate suggested.
"I’m fine with whatever," Perry Yates said casually. She looked up, and a second later, an explosion roared from above.
Immediately after, with the sound of something heavy hitting the ground, a massive Heavenly Eye fell from the sky, smashing to pieces as it crashed onto the earth.
The other three stared at Perry Yates in astonishment.
Miles Lynch asked, "How did you know there was a Heavenly Eye above us?"
Hearing this, Perry Yates smiled faintly and said in a mysterious tone, "The moon told me, of course."
The three of them gave her a speechless look, as if the words "I don’t believe you" were written all over their faces.
Seeing their reaction, Perry Yates shrugged. "Fine, the moon didn’t tell me. I saw it with my own eyes."
This time, the three of them still didn’t say a word, but the expression on their faces changed from "I don’t believe you" to "Yeah, right."
Perry Yates tsked and said, "Believe it or not."
’I tell them the truth and they don’t believe me. My eyesight is just really good.’
The four of them began to explore farther out. After they had walked some distance, Rory Drake and the other two once again found themselves staring at a Heavenly Eye that Perry Yates had shot down from the sky.
Now they were starting to believe that she really was spotting the Heavenly Eyes in the sky with just her eyes.
Because apart from the first one, which she had shot down while her mecha was active, she had spotted all the others with her naked eyes.
"You really saw those Heavenly Eyes in the sky with just your eyes?"
Perry Yates huffed. "I already told you. You’re the ones who didn’t believe me."
"It’s not that we didn’t believe you, it’s that those Heavenly Eyes are over ten thousand meters high and constantly moving. Forget seeing them with the naked eye; you might not even be able to spot them with binoculars. Just how good is your eyesight that you can see something so far away without any tools?" Rory Drake said.
But considering her abilities and identity, he figured it wasn’t impossible that she had obtained some cards that enhanced her vision.
"My five senses have indeed been enhanced many times to reach their current level."
She didn’t choose to hide this fact.
