The appearance of a large, azure bird was accompanied by a fierce gust of wind that sent the surrounding zombies stumbling and staggering.

The zombie leader was constantly moving within the horde, which was why Moira Lynch had failed to find it for so long.

However, a body’s energy is limited, and zombies were no exception.

Especially for an ability like Space Movement, every major jump was accompanied by a massive consumption of energy.

So, with no better options, the best method Moira Lynch could devise was to increase the pressure on the zombie leader, forcing it to use its ability more frequently.

This way, its energy reserves would deplete even faster.

At the same time, Moira Lynch used her spiritual power to carefully watch all the zombies, observing their every move.

At the front lines, the zombies were already clashing with the base’s Superpower Users.

Since Moira Lynch and Kai York had already dealt with the high-level zombies, the Superpower Users surprisingly gained the upper hand in their first clash with the horde, pressing the zombies back.

Especially with a super weapon like Shane Rhodes on the field, a single bolt of lightning could instantly blast a large swathe of zombies to smithereens.

This sight filled the others who had also awakened a Thunder Ability with envy.

They had all awakened the same ability, yet his power was on another level, making theirs look completely inadequate.

However, even with the upper hand, Mark Rhodes didn’t let his guard down.

He knew full well that their current advantage was only because others were bearing the burden for them.

All the high-level zombies had been eliminated before they even got close to the base.

However, Moira Lynch and her group couldn’t stay here forever. They might even leave in the next second, and then, the base would only have themselves to rely on.

But while people in the base were continuously awakening superpowers, these newly awakened abilities were all very weak.

Right now, Mark Rhodes could only hope that Moira Lynch and Kai York would quickly find and eliminate the zombie leader. Only then would this zombie tide end, giving them a chance to catch their breath.

Besides, winter was coming soon.

In winter, when temperatures dropped below freezing, the zombies would likely lose most of their mobility.

Mark Rhodes gazed into the distance, praying silently in his heart.

「Meanwhile, on another part of the battlefield.」

Moira Lynch’s tactic had achieved initial success: they had found the zombie leader.

The bad news was, they had let it escape.

Moira Lynch recognized it as a level-six zombie. Its appearance was already human-like, and even its eyes were gradually returning to normal.

The zombie had been hiding near two level-five zombies, and Moira Lynch had locked onto it the moment it appeared.

However, she hadn’t known it was the zombie leader at first.

By the time she realized it was the leader, it had already used a decoy to escape.

Moira Lynch looked at the zombie corpse on the ground; its Crystal Core had vanished into thin air.

’Dual superpowers again.’

Reaching this conclusion, Moira Lynch clicked her tongue with a grimace.

Across all of Caelus, only Moira Lynch and Kai York had awakened multiple superpowers.

And both of them had done so through external means, not naturally.

But here, in just over ten days, she’d already seen two such cases, neither of them human, and both seemingly from natural awakenings. ’It’s infuriating to be outdone by a cat... or a zombie.’

Looking at the empty zombie corpse on the ground, Moira Lynch wondered what its second ability could be. ’It must be another escape-type.’

’Patience, scan this zombie corpse.’

According to Patience’s scan, the zombie leader’s second ability was likely one called Nascent Soul.

Just as in cultivation novels, a cultivator who reached the Nascent Soul Stage could be reborn indefinitely as long as their Nascent Soul was not destroyed.

If Moira Lynch wasn’t mistaken, the zombie’s "Nascent Soul" was its Crystal Core.

’What a pain.’

Moira Lynch felt the urge to just wash her hands of the whole thing.

To kill a zombie with an ability like that, they would have to eliminate every single other zombie to leave it with no host to possess, or in other words, be reborn into.

Besides, a zombie with two escape-type abilities would only get harder to deal with as its level increased. They had to eliminate it as quickly as possible while it was still relatively weak.

Otherwise, if it evolved into a Corpse Emperor, all humans on the planet would become its captive-bred food supply.

Just then, Kai York, who was beside her, noticed Moira Lynch hadn’t moved and was frowning deeply. Realizing something must be wrong, he asked, "What’s wrong?"

After Moira Lynch told Kai York that the zombie leader had dual superpowers—both of them for escaping—Kai York also grimaced.

"Well, let’s just do our best," Kai said. "Didn’t Hugh Finch say that Mark Rhodes is the savior? That means humanity wins in the end. Even if we can’t take out this zombie leader now, it’ll probably die at Mark Rhodes’s hands eventually."

At his words, Moira Lynch nodded. What Kai York said made sense, and her tense mood relaxed considerably.

As her mood lightened, her mind cleared, and she suddenly remembered something—she could directly extract the Crystal Cores from the zombies’ bodies.

Acting on the thought immediately, Moira Lynch extended her spiritual power and locked onto the surrounding zombies. With a mental command, she ripped the Crystal Cores right out of their bodies.

The zombies, now deprived of their Crystal Cores, fell to the ground like true corpses, utterly still.

And so, under the relentless bombardment from Moira Lynch, Kai York, and their two Spiritual Bodies, the number of surrounding zombies dwindled, to the point where a clear gap formed in the horde.

High-level zombies were instantly killed the moment they appeared. It was useless even when they disguised themselves as low-level ones.

They could disguise their appearance, but not their Crystal Cores.

During this time, the two of them encountered the leader zombie several more times.

But the leader zombie seemed to know it was no match for the pair. The moment it was discovered, it would turn and flee without the slightest hesitation, as slippery as an eel.

However, based on the increasing frequency of these "chance encounters" with the leader, both Moira Lynch and Kai York knew they were gradually backing it into a corner.

While this was a good thing, they both instinctively raised their guard, wary of it lashing out in desperation.

Just as they steeled themselves, Moira Lynch’s spiritual power once again swept over the zombie leader by chance.

Unlike before, she didn’t act immediately and risk startling her prey.

Her previous attempts had failed because her spiritual power had been insufficient, allowing the leader’s Crystal Core to break free. This time, she was prepared to raise the stakes.
