Apocalypse Arrives: I Become a Powerhouse by Scavenging
Chapter 614 - 604: Making a Name for Oneself
"But these things look pretty expensive. Do we have enough money?" Moira asked worriedly.
She wasn’t short on cash and could certainly afford one, but three? She wasn’t so sure.
’What if it’s not enough?’
These bionic bodies obviously weren’t cheap.
[Don’t worry, it’s enough.]
After getting the confirmation, Moira said to the clerk, "I’ll take all three. Are there any discounts?"
The clerk was stunned when he heard Moira, wondering if he’d misheard. Once he came to his senses, he immediately smiled and said, "Yes, yes, of course! We can give you a twenty percent discount, plus a complimentary Intelligent Brain upgrade and various installation packages."
"Installation packages?"
Seeing that Moira didn’t know what installation packages were, the clerk explained, "After an Intelligent Brain acquires a physical body, it needs a period of time to adapt. The installation packages help the Intelligent Brain adapt to its new body faster and ensure he can become an all-purpose butler."
Moira was then shown all sorts of installation packages, including but not limited to: language, aesthetics, movement, social skills, and ethics.
After all the installation packages were installed, Moira stored the three bionic bodies in her space.
By then, Patience had also finished its upgrade.
Since Patience already possessed the most advanced Intelligent Brain system available, the upgrade merely added a few processors. This would allow Patience to more easily control the three bionic bodies simultaneously while ensuring Moira’s own connection would never drop.
「After leaving the store.」
[Master, Professor El just sent a message. He said he’s arrived.]
"Okay, I know."
Arriving at the place she’d arranged to meet Ellers, Moira immediately spotted the young man sitting by the window.
She walked over, smiling as she greeted him, "Long time no see."
Ellers heard the familiar voice and turned. He looked stunned when he saw Moira, and after a moment, called out uncertainly, "Moira?"
Moira nodded and sat down across from him.
Even after confirming her identity, Ellers took a long moment to recover. He muttered under his breath, "I’ve heard that Human Race girls go through a big change as they grow up. I never expected it was true and not just a legend."
"Oh, by the way," Ellers asked with a curious look, "that proposal video that’s been causing such a stir lately... was the woman in it you?"
At his words, Moira’s expression stiffened. She looked at him with a strained smile and said, "If you don’t mention that, we can continue to have a pleasant chat."
’So it was her.’
Seeing the clear "don’t-talk-about-it" look on Moira’s face, Ellers wisely dropped the subject.
He had only been curious, after all.
However, compared to most people, he knew more of the inside story.
A ruler who had been on death’s door was suddenly glowing with health, even looking as if he had become young again. That sort of thing was impossible to conceal, no matter how one tried.
"This is what you wanted."
As he spoke, Ellers handed over a white, button-shaped Space Button.
Moira took the Space Button and nodded in satisfaction after checking its contents. "I’ll have the money transferred to your account."
In addition, Moira gave Ellers several vials of blood, as they had previously agreed.
The previous blood samples were nearly depleted, so he needed new ones if he wanted to continue his research.
This time, besides her own, she also had samples from Shane Rhodes and the other two.
This was with their consent, of course.
Ellers was incredibly excited to get the blood. He looked at Moira and asked again in earnest, "Are you sure you don’t want to be credited for my research findings? This is a great opportunity to make a name for yourself."
"No, I don’t," Moira refused once again. "Professor El, I’m providing you with blood voluntarily, but I don’t want my name to appear on the list of test subjects. It would make me feel like I’m on the same level as a lab rat."
Ellers didn’t understand her reasoning. "Your way of thinking is strange."
Moira shrugged. "Perhaps."
"I respect your decision, but I won’t agree to completely erase your and your companions’ contributions."
Seeing Ellers’s earnest expression, Moira gave a faint smile. "Do as you wish."
’As long as my name isn’t on the Medicine, it’s fine. I really have no desire to be famous right now.’
’Besides, I’ll have plenty of other opportunities to make a name for myself.’
After a few more brief exchanges with Moira, Ellers stood up to leave.
She didn’t stop him, simply watching him go.
She checked the time. Seeing it was still early, Moira turned and walked into the largest nearby shopping mall.
After a major shopping spree, she returned to the hair salon with her arms full of bags.
By this time, Shane Rhodes and the other two had already made their choices, and a stylist had come over to cut their hair.
The stylist worked quickly, finishing all three of their hairstyles in no time.
Once their hair was cut, the three of them stood admiring themselves in the mirror for a long time, clearly very satisfied with the experience.
It was the first time Moira realized just how narcissistic men could be.
She glanced at the three of them, still holding mirrors and looking at themselves.
From the moment they left the hair salon until they were back on Veridian Prime, the three of them never once put down their mirrors.
"You guys..."
’Forget it. I’ll just go eat.’
She had gotten takeout from Apexia and laid out a full spread on the table.
Watching the three men, who were still mesmerized by their reflections, she grumbled internally, ’You’d better stay obsessed a little longer so I can eat all this good food myself. Hmph.’
By the next day, perhaps because a night of sleep had messed up their hair, the three finally returned to their senses.
Moira distributed the nutrient liquid she had bought the day before among the three of them.
Under normal circumstances, one bottle of nutrient liquid could sustain a person for half a month without food or water, but that duration would shorten if they used their talents.
Not knowing what they might face in the future, Moira had ordered a thousand units of nutrient liquid directly.
She had originally wanted more, but a thousand units was Ellers’s limit; he couldn’t provide any more than that.
Kai York held the milky-white Medicine in his hand and immediately wanted to try it, but Hugh Finch stopped him.
"This kind of nutrient Medicine is extremely rare. It has to be saved for critical moments. Don’t waste it."
Hugh Finch’s words made Kai York drop the idea.
"Alright, fine."
Kai York put the nutrient liquid away and turned to Moira. "By the way, Moira, did you go to Apexia just for this?"
"I also picked up a few other things while I was there," Moira said.
’Especially those three bionic bodies. They were definitely a pleasant surprise.’
