Moira Lynch, Hugh Finch, and Kai York had originally planned to lie low in Novus until the game was over, but they were now learning the hard way how quickly plans can change.

’Go hunt down The Thunderer? You really overestimate us.’ But then again, the mayor was a frighteningly good judge of character.

If The Thunderer really was Shane Rhodes, then they were probably the only ones who stood a chance against him.

The mayor clearly had no intention of letting them refuse. He even told them they were to leave tomorrow and should go back and pack.

Since this was official business, Novus would provide all their food and supplies.

To motivate the trio, the mayor also promised that upon their return, they could choose any reward they wanted from the mission hall.

Moira and the others had no reaction to the mayor’s arrangements.

After all, if what the mayor had just said was true, Deputy Mayor Hayes had failed to achieve his goal this time, and he certainly wouldn’t let the matter drop.

They didn’t want to make enemies, but a direct refusal was, in itself, an act that would cause offense. Leaving right now was their best option, and they had been given the perfect excuse.

While they didn’t refuse, Professor Wallace, who was standing to the side, looked completely displeased and disapproving.

’The mayor is sending these aliens away? That means I’ll have much less time to ask them questions!’

’Professor Wallace was so frustrated he wanted to jump up and smack the mayor on the head. Couldn’t The Thunderer be captured anytime? Why now? Doesn’t he understand priorities?’

However, he couldn’t afford to offend either the mayor or Moira’s group.

He especially didn’t dare to speak up when he saw that Moira and her companions weren’t objecting to the plan.

Back at Professor Wallace’s home, Moira took out the vials of pink Medicine.

"Professor, you’ve been wanting one of these to study, right? Here, you can have these two."

Moira generously handed two vials of the Medicine to Professor Wallace.

"Professor, a word of warning. Study it all you want, but don’t inject it into yourself. You’ll regret it when it’s too late."

Professor Wallace, who had been delighted to receive the Medicine, suddenly froze. He held the vials awkwardly, and the smile on his face faltered.

"What, is there a problem with the Medicine?" Hugh Finch asked.

Moira nodded. "There is. I’m not sure what the problem is yet, but I’m certain that the substance inside is alive."

The only thing she could be sure of now was that if this stuff entered someone’s body, the harm would definitely outweigh any potential benefit.

She was only warning Professor Wallace because he had been good to them during this time.

As for the remaining vials, she planned to take them back and have Patience analyze them thoroughly.

’I really miss Patience,’ she thought.

Since they were leaving Novus the next day, and Professor Wallace didn’t know when their mission would end, he feared this might be their final goodbye. He seized the last bit of time he had, trying to pry as much information as he could from them.

To this end, even Hugh Finch and Kai York were roped into his questioning.

This went on until the moment they departed the next morning.

Fortunately, the three of them were physically resilient. A single sleepless night had little effect on them, and they still looked full of energy.

The infected were skilled at sonic attacks, so flying was out of the question. They had to drive.

As someone with no driver’s license and even less driving skill, Moira naturally claimed the front passenger seat, leaving Hugh Finch and Kai York to take turns at the wheel.

Of course, she wasn’t idle either.

Moira held the file the mayor had given her.

"This Thunderer doesn’t seem to be the same person as the Thunder Messenger we saw on the dark web before."

First of all, their locations were different. The distance between the two could be described as poles apart.

If the previous one was Shane Rhodes, even if he grew wings and flew with all his might, it would be impossible for him to get from one side to the other in such a short time.

So, the question was, which one of them was Shane Rhodes?

There were no photos in the file, making it difficult to judge.

Just then, a message came from the front: a gas station had been spotted.

The gas station was devoid of staff—it was unclear if they had fled or turned into infected—but thankfully, the pumps still worked.

There were eleven people in their party, or fourteen including Moira’s group of three.

Aside from the trio’s personal vehicle, the others were in two cars provided by Novus. Even though they were large vehicles with plenty of seats, they were still extremely cramped.

Under these circumstances, someone got an idea involving Moira’s group.

After all, their SUV looked quite large, but it only had three people in it.

’In a situation like this, it shouldn’t be a problem for them to help out, right? We’re all comrades-in-arms now, after all.’

Moira’s group filled up their car’s gas tank and then restocked their own supplies.

Just then, a man and a woman started walking toward them.

Before they could speak, a dark shadow shot out from somewhere.

It was immediately followed by a blood-curdling scream.

Everyone turned in horror.

They saw the man from before writhing on the ground, fresh blood staining the pavement beneath him as he struggled.

The culprit behind it all was the thing on his neck.

It was an infant, looking to be only a few months old.

It was so small and had been lying motionless on the ground that no one had noticed it before.

Seeing this, another person conjured a ball of fire and set both the infected infant and the man ablaze.

They watched intently the entire time to make sure the infant didn’t escape.

The woman who had been with the man was now sobbing uncontrollably, gasping for breath. She tried several times to rush forward and save him but was held back by the others.

Moira and her companions didn’t get involved, watching like bystanders.

Because of what had happened, they abandoned their plan to rest at the gas station. After refueling, they got in their cars and left.

They didn’t seem to have any intention of stopping, even as night fell. It was clear they planned to drive through the night.

Inside the car, Moira had kept her spiritual power active since nightfall. If there was any danger ahead, she would move it away if she could. If not... well, they would cross that bridge when they came to it.

Fortunately, although they encountered a few roadblocks, Moira moved them all elsewhere, and they didn’t stubbornly try to return.

As a result, they had a very peaceful night.

The others were comfortable, but Moira was a little annoyed.
