Apocalypse Arrives: I Become a Powerhouse by Scavenging
Chapter 603 - 593: Sound Source Pollution 45
The young boy led the three of them all the way to the Mission Hall.
Looking at the scene inside, which was exactly like something out of a novel, Moira Lynch couldn’t help but remark, "You could say this is a dream come true."
"Haven’t you seen a place like this before?" Hugh Finch asked.
Moira Lynch shook her head. "The two are completely incomparable."
The disasters they faced were different. Although Novus was also a survivor base, it felt mostly the same as before the apocalypse, aside from the streets being a bit more crowded and people’s expressions looking a little more grim.
Just as the group was about to check out the available missions, a piercing scream erupted from the crowd.
A man who had been talking to his companion suddenly began to convulse. His pupils turned white, and he collapsed to the ground, foaming at the mouth.
Just as his companion moved to check on him, the man on the ground shot up, grabbed the person closest to him, and bit down hard.
In an instant, blood went flying.
Everyone was stunned into a stupor by the scene.
They only snapped out of it and started to flee when the monster took a second bite.
At the same time, the guards responsible for maintaining order in the Mission Hall rushed forward, preparing to capture the clearly infected person alive.
As for why they wanted him alive, it was, of course, for human experimentation.
However, at that moment, the feeding monster suddenly went berserk.
It dropped to all fours and charged toward Moira Lynch’s group at an incredible speed, letting out a bestial roar.
Seeing this, Moira Lynch decisively nocked an arrow and fired, pinning the monster to the wall and immobilizing it with a single shot.
It was over so quickly that the surrounding crowd didn’t even have time to react.
But Moira Lynch paid no mind to their shock.
’That monster... it charged straight for us without a moment’s hesitation.’
’There’s no way something isn’t fishy here. I don’t buy it for a second.’
For some reason, a single word surfaced in her mind once again—antidote.
’Are we... are we really the antidote?’
’No, no, no. This has to be a scheme by the Cosmic Consciousness!’
The monster’s body was quickly taken away.
Although pinned to the wall, the monster’s Life Energy was incredibly tenacious. Moira Lynch’s arrow hadn’t hit a vital spot, so it was still alive when it was carried off.
Even though it was severely wounded, it continued to snarl at Moira Lynch and her companions.
As for the unfortunate soul who had been bitten to death, her body was taken away as well.
After being bitten by a monster, there was always the risk of turning. In such cases, the authorities would take the body away to be destroyed.
All that remained on the floor was a pool of red blood.
Near the bloodstain, Moira Lynch spotted a shattered test tube.
Most of the liquid from the tube had spilled, leaving only a tiny amount inside.
"It’s pink," Moira Lynch murmured to herself.
Hearing her, Kai York, who was beside her, asked curiously, "What’s pink?"
Following her gaze, Kai York and Hugh Finch also saw the shattered test tube in the pool of blood, along with the faint, pale pink Medicine left inside.
"Is there something wrong with that Medicine?" Kai York asked.
Moira Lynch shook her head. "I don’t know."
’It’s just that a shattered test tube appearing under these circumstances is bound to be suspicious.’
’After all, most people don’t just carry test tubes around.’
However, Moira Lynch didn’t dwell on it, quickly putting the matter to the back of her mind.
A giant screen dominated the center of the Mission Hall, listing all sorts of available missions.
The missions varied in content and difficulty.
Listed after each mission was its corresponding point reward.
These points could be exchanged for all kinds of goods, functioning as a form of currency.
In a corner of the Mission Hall, an exchange window was set up where people could trade their valuables for points.
Conversely, one could also use points to purchase valuables at very low prices.
However, not many people did so.
The trio had no intention of taking on a mission.
After all, their main objective was to clear the game. If all went according to plan, they would likely remain in Novus until the very end.
This was the safest approach for them.
Beyond the giant screen were several display cases filled with various items possessing special abilities.
These were all items that people had discovered since the start of the apocalypse.
Each item was clearly priced, and every single one was incredibly expensive.
Many people lingered in front of the cases, their eyes filled with envy.
Just then, a familiar object caught her eye.
’Isn’t that one of the feathers I charged?’
Moira Lynch stared at the ice-blue feather, which was carefully arranged inside the display case.
’There’s no mistake. This is one of the feathers I charged. How did it end up here?’
They also sold white—uncharged—feathers, which were much cheaper. A single feather cost only two points.
Moira Lynch focused on one of the feathers.
The base of the white feather was tinged with a faint, pale pink.
There were a fair number of such feathers among the collection—not a lot, but not a few either.
’The pink must be bits of flesh.’
’It’s as if these feathers were ripped from a living creature.’
After looking around a bit longer, they noted that most of the items were single-use. The trio didn’t find anything else of interest, and since it was getting late, they decided to leave the Mission Hall.
Following the address Barry Wallace had given them, the three arrived at his house.
Barry Wallace was already waiting outside when they got there.
His face lit up with delight when he saw them.
"This is great! Young Lynn, Mr. Finch, Brother Yates, you’re finally here! I was starting to think you weren’t coming."
Barry Wallace enthusiastically led the trio into the house.
Once inside, he asked tentatively, "Young Lynn, I heard you ran into an infected person at the Mission Hall... and that you took care of it?"
Moira Lynch nodded. "That was less than an hour ago. You already know?"
’News certainly travels fast.’
"It’s not just me. The whole of Novus probably knows by now. Young Lynn, you’re famous."
Barry Wallace gave Moira Lynch a strange look. ’Didn’t Young Lynn say they wanted to keep a low profile? So why the sudden high-profile display?’
’Then again,’ he thought, ’maybe an act like that is just a casual display of power for them.’
After all, he still had no idea what kind of talents Moira Lynch and her companions actually possessed.
’What kind of talent could possibly grant someone the abilities of spatial-warping, archery, and long-distance communication all at once?’
