Apocalypse Arrives: I Become a Powerhouse by Scavenging
Chapter 555 - 545: A Sudden Marriage Proposal
Three days later, after an untold amount of nutrient liquid and rare medicinal herbs had been consumed, the flames in the wooden tub finally, gradually, died out.
This marked the successful conclusion of the treatment.
The old man in the wooden tub now looked like a completely different person compared to his previous decrepit state.
When the butler got a clear look at the old man in the tub, he was so overcome with emotion that his eyes welled up with tears.
Now, in the tub, the old man’s formerly wizened body had become full and robust again. The wrinkles on his face had diminished, and the hair that had been burned away by the flames had grown back.
The regrown hair was not the original salt-and-pepper white, but as black as ink.
The old man had, for all intents and purposes, transformed from a decrepit elder into a healthy, middle-aged man.
Everyone present had expected Moira Lynch to be able to cure the old man, but when they saw the final result, the look on their faces was beyond mere shock.
This went far beyond what could be described as "superb medical skill" or "powerful talent."
In Wing’s eyes as he looked at Moira Lynch, there was now something more than just shock—a host of other, unusual feelings.
He was about to say something, but just then, the old man in the tub slowly opened his eyes.
After the butler informed him the treatment was over, the old man first stretched his body.
Upon feeling the vigorous surge of Life Energy within him, a look of delighted surprise flashed in the old man’s eyes.
He turned to Moira Lynch and said with utmost sincerity, "Miss Lynn, words can’t express my gratitude. Should you ever face any trouble in the future, please don’t hesitate to contact me. This old man still carries some weight in the galaxy."
A smile touched Moira Lynch’s lips. "If that day ever comes, I won’t hesitate to take you up on it."
Hearing this, the old man let out a hearty laugh, his voice booming with energy. He appreciated her direct and unaffected nature.
With the treatment finished and her mind on other matters, Moira Lynch rose to take her leave.
The old man had his own affairs to attend to, so he didn’t insist she stay, merely instructing his grandson to see her out.
As for the payment the old man had promised, the assets had been transferred into Moira Lynch’s name just the day before.
Moira Lynch had been quite startled when the old man produced the documents, as they had clearly been prepared well in advance.
It was as if the old man had been so certain of Moira Lynch’s ability to cure him that he’d had everything ready from the start.
The old man hadn’t tried to hide the matter, but he hadn’t broadcast it with great fanfare either.
A good number of people knew that the payment amounted to half the old man’s fortune, but it wasn’t common knowledge.
At the very least, the "grandson" walking beside Moira Lynch seemed to be unaware of the details.
Ever since they’d left the castle, Wing had been staring at Moira Lynch with an intense, meaningful gaze that made the hair on the back of her neck stand up.
Once they were clear of the castle grounds, Moira Lynch said to Wing, "This is far enough. I can manage the rest of the way myself."
’His stare is just too creepy,’ she thought. ’I have a bad feeling about this. Better leave quickly.’
Just as Moira Lynch turned to leave, Wing, who had been silent until now, suddenly called out to her.
"Wait!"
The next moment, Moira Lynch felt a hand grab hers. Her body spun around instinctively, and she found Wing on one knee, gazing up at her with a look of profound affection.
Moira Lynch was so startled by the scene that her mind went blank. She just stood there, completely stunned.
’Only a single string of thoughts ran through her mind: Who am I? Where am I? What is he trying to do?’
Ignoring Moira Lynch’s inner turmoil, Wing continued, "Miss Lynn, my name is Azurion. I’m twenty-five years old, six-foot-two, and a student in the Combat Division at the Imperial First Military Academy. I’m also the future heir to The Sterling Group. Will you be my fiancée?"
"If you agree, I swear to be true to you, and only you, for all my life."
As he spoke, Azurion’s gaze remained fixed on Moira Lynch, his dark pupils reflecting her stunned image, his expression one of profound affection.
After he finished speaking, Moira Lynch’s brain, which had seemingly crashed, finally rebooted.
First, she pulled her hand from Azurion’s grasp. Then, she took a few steps back, putting some distance between them. An awkward smile formed on her face. "You’ve got to be kidding me."
Beneath her calm expression, however, Moira Lynch was screaming internally.
’AHHHHHH!!!’
’A proposal!’
’What is happening? What the hell!’
’Are people here all this casual about marriage?’
’They say a woman is happiest when she’s being proposed to, but it really depends on who’s asking, doesn’t it?!’
’She and Azurion had known each other for three days, tops. In that entire time, they probably hadn’t even exchanged a hundred sentences.’
In any case, Moira Lynch felt none of the supposed surprise and joy of a marriage proposal. All she felt was a mix of terror and sheer horror.
Azurion didn’t seem angered by Moira Lynch’s rejection. He knew, after all, that his actions had been far too abrupt.
"Everything I said is true," he insisted. "Do you believe in love at first sight? I’m not asking for your answer right now. Just give me a chance. I’ll prove myself to you."
’Believe what about you?’
’That whole "true to you and only you" thing?’
’Don’t be ridiculous. I can’t even promise that for myself, so what good is your promise?’
’Besides, you want to spend your whole life with me? Did you even ask for my opinion before making that decision for both of us?’
Still, Moira Lynch had no interest in playing games or collecting admirers—it was a complete waste of time.
’Actually getting into a relationship was even more out of the question. It’s not just a waste of time; your IQ and your bank account both take a nosedive.’
’People fall in love and just... disappear.’
Besides, as for Azurion’s claim of "love at first sight," Moira Lynch didn’t believe a single syllable of it.
Moira Lynch’s smile vanished, her expression turning serious. "I’m sorry, but I’m not considering dating or marriage right now. I’m still young, and I don’t want to... Besides, you’re not my type. So, please give up. It’s not going to happen between us."
And with that, giving Azurion no opportunity to respond, Moira Lynch’s figure vanished on the spot, leaving no trace behind.
Azurion’s eyes filled with astonishment as he watched Moira Lynch simply vanish into thin air.
It was hard to tell if his shock stemmed from her sudden disappearance or from her merciless rejection just moments before.
In any case, it was a full several minutes before Azurion finally rose from the ground. The look of profound affection was gone, completely replaced by a sharp, calculating glint that flashed in his eyes.
He initiated a video call with his father through his Intelligent Brain.
A moment later, the face of a middle-aged man, who bore a strong resemblance to the old man, appeared on the screen.
"Father, I recall having a marriage contract. Could I trouble you to have it canceled? I’ve found someone far more worthy of being my wife."
Azurion got straight to the point.
